It took me a minute to find Nicholas. We had a rather large backyard because my mother likes growing flowers and other plants, which she also used for her event decorating business. Also, it was dark. Strolling through the greenhouse and then to the gardens tucked into the back corners of our yard, I finally found him. Nicholas had his back to me, sitting on the wrought-iron bench that faced my mother’s flowers, his fingers tapping lightly on the armrest. Hearing me approach, he turned his head and stood.
