Juan's POV:
There was only one person we could try to contact to help us understand her situation. Never in centuries was a vampire and a wolf mated, never in centuries has these two being bared a child of both natures, one of them would have been taken over in the womb, or perhaps the child would not have shown any genes from either, it is similar with wolves and human, either they are part of each, or entirely human, or entirely wolves. It just depended on the biology inside the mother's womb.
There are only witches and celestials that could know the truth, but celestials hadn't emerged ever since centuries; they are direct wolves born to the moon goddess, directly granted the power of knowledge, and the future. The only ones that could easily read the stars and see what would happen in the future. The only one that could have premonitions and visions. But they had gone instinct as well. Many great beings had disappeared over the course of decades, and it became rare to find those.
Witches and wizards were similar, only they did not descend from the moon, more of the darkness, and it is mostly up to them how they wish to control their abilities, only some uses them for good, for bad, or both. Some offer deals and other trick people into long years of s*****y. They had to be careful before meeting one of those dark things.
But, it was our only option to found this Erik Morgan, to ask the question we so need the answers to. But also for Ilona, she too needed to know her family history, her origins, and what that would make her.
If there was a way out of this, I would perhaps beg for her to choose me if there was something with the mate thing. I found her first, I cared for her first. Nelo may have been looking all over the place for this family, but I was the one who first found her.
Just the memory pained me, the cracked I felt when she fainted, when I felt our bond already breaking because I thought she was dying. I hope not to feel that pain, imagining meeting your mate only for her or him to die just minutes after. It would be such a horrible thing to suffer through. I would rather not have met them when it happened, at least the bond does not exist yet. But when you make that eye contact when you smell their intoxicating and sweet mate, you are in too late, the bond forms already push you together, the bond begging you to mark and mate already. Males often get overprotective over their females, even more, when mated.
So when Nelo appeared, it frightened me a little, but I just felt more enraged because she was looking at him, and he was looking back at her; the exact reaction a wolf would do when they meet their mates. She was a wolf when it happened to me, to out of it, to on the edge of death to realize our bond. She would have been sane and healthy, she would have had the same reaction as me. But she was having that reaction to someone else, I do admit I felt jealous. Even when do words left her mouth, I would have been two fingers away to stab some wood in his heart, until he turned into ashes. But I was more than confused. Mated to a vampire? A wolf to a vampire?
My curiosity rose, even more, when Nelo said she could be a vampire, that she needed blood. I've never seen her skin so paled before, her normally blue eyes had been bloodshot red, and refused my own blood.
But after that whole ordeal, although hating vampires, I didn't feel that jealous, more like an understanding. We both had something, an urge to mark her and get her, but she never gave them the opportunity. She hadn't even let me mark her. She never spoke of her past, just that it had been twice that she nearly died, had her wolf earlier than everyone, shifted way earlier than alpha, and that she never craved blood until she met him. Was that a vampire thing when they met their mate? Craving their blood and only them, like wolves, who hate the opposite s*x touches, they prefer their mates touching them, even a simple gesture as touching their arms. They love being the only one in their eyes as well.
I had a mate who was a part vampire and part wolf. What other mystery was she hiding too, well, what other mystery did she not know yet and had yet to discover?
