Korede couldn’t sit still.
He stared at the initials written in Gbenga’s diary. It didn’t make sense—why would his best friend write down the names of a prefect, a teacher, and a junior student?
He pulled out his phone and searched his gallery for an old photo—one from the inter-house practice last month. Gbenga, Samuel Okon (the head prefect), Miss Kemi (his government teacher), and Jide Olawale (a quiet JSS3 boy) were standing by the bleachers, laughing.
That wasn’t strange.
But now, Korede couldn’t stop seeing the photo differently.
The next day, he found Adaora in the art room during break. She was sketching alone.
“Can I sit?” he asked.
She blinked. “Why?”
“Because you’re the only one who’s been honest with me.”
Her shoulders relaxed a little. He handed her the diary. “Look.”
She read in silence, her eyes widening at the initials.
“I’ve seen Jide sneaking around the admin block at night,” she whispered. “I thought he was just being stupid… but maybe he was part of something.”
They decided to search for the school’s CCTV footage.
That night, Korede and Adaora crept into the computer lab. The security folder was empty.
Everything had been wiped.
Someone knew they were coming.
