It's been nearly 2 months since a band of rogues attacked my brothers, our pack's beta and my mate. Everyone was fine, well, except for the fact that Narien has yet to wake up. Marsen's been acting Alpha and I have still tried my best as our pack's Luna. It's just hard, knowing that Narien lay upstairs in the Alpha's residence, trapped in some sort of coma.
He's supposed to wake up, we just don't know when. Werewolves have accelerated healing, so his whole body looks fine. He's been looked over by multiple doctors multiple times and each time they've said that there is brain activity and that he will wake up once his Wolf feels that he has fully recovered.
I spend as much time as I can by his side every day. At night though, I sleep in our little cottage alone. It's almost winter now, and I miss having his warmth wherever I go.
The first few days and weeks were the hardest. My emotions were all over the place and I would snap at anyone who tried to calm me down. That passed, luckily. I didn't like the jerk I'd become.
Laila also often spent time nearby. She kept me occupied when no one else could. I'm grateful that she has been here for me through it all. I don't know what might have happened to me if she hadn't been a constant source of support.
My family and Narien's family have done their best, too. Though, my family was probably the ones most commonly receiving my angry outburts. I'm not overly proud of yelling at my brothers or my dad, considering that they're some of the most important people to me on this planet. Nevertheless, they stayed right by my side and for that, I am grateful.
Kaeala and Erandius both have shown their support in their own ways. It hasn't been lost on me that this was their son, though. I think that's why I was able to stay calm around them at the very least; knowing that they hurt just as much as I do.
To make matters worse, I think I might be pregnant.
It started only a few days ago - the morning sickness. At first I just thought that I was malnourished because I haven't been eating properly or even had simply caught the flu. I really paid no mind to it until I realized that I haven't bled in quite some time.
I haven't been able to get out of our territory to buy a pregnancy test, and I'm too scared to bring it up to anyone yet. I know I was partially doing it to myself, but I feel so incredibly alone right now.
I think about how my morning has transpired while I arrange Narien's bedroom around me. I woke up, puked, made breakfast, couldn't keep that down, showered, and now I'm here. Doting over my mate that has absolutely no idea what's going on. I looked at his sleeping face and felt tears come to my eyes. I brushed a piece of his hair - which was much too long now mind you - from his face.
Without warning the door to Narien's room swung open. I spun away from him quickly and wiped the tears that had formed in my eyes away.
"Oh, Luna." Marsen's voice rung out.
"Marsen, how many times do I have to tell you to call me Ame?" I asked jokingly with my back to him.
He sighed. "Are you okay?"
I nodded my head, turning back to him with a smile. "Quite fine. How are you doing?"
He scratched the back of his head. "I actually have something to tell my Alpha."
My head tilted to the side. "Oh, I can leave if you want privacy." I said softly.
"Well," he mustered. "I was actually hoping to talk to you, since Narien's... still not awake."
I blinked twice, my head straightening up. "Oh! Yes, I can talk. Let's move to a different room."
We walked to the nearest study room. This was the room where I'd found Narien fast asleep on the couch once. I missed that memory quite fondly.
Also in this room however was a small table with two chairs for the two of us to sit at. I sat down first, and Marsen sat across from me. He looked nervous, I'd never seen him like this before. I took the chance to speak first.
"Marsen, is everything okay?" I asked slowly.
He nodded. "Yes, I think it is... I hope it is..."
"Well I'm here to listen to you with whatever it is that you need to say," I tried to get him to open up. I'd never really had Marsen open up to me before. He was Narien's best friend so I have seen him lots and lots, I just didn't feel like I really knew him that well.
"Lu-Ame..." He said my name gently. "I found my mate."
My eyes became wide with happiness and excitement. "That's amazing Marsen! Is she from a nearby pack or-"
Before I could even finish my sentence, Marsen cut me off. "He. M-my mate... Is another man."
I smiled even bigger. "Marsen I didn't know that-"
"I keep it hidden for a reason." He cut me off again. His eyes were focused on the table and I could barely see his expression.
"Well," I mused for a moment. "My question still stands. Is he from another pack or is he a human like me?"
"Another pack," Marsen said. "I actually... That's why I wanted to talk to you. His pack... well they're not the most tolerant of people. I was wondering if he could come here. With us."
I smiled. "Of course Marsen! Of course. He's your mate, this should be time to celebrate!"
I saw a glimmer of happiness in his eyes. "Celebrating might be off the table for now, but I appreciate your..."
"Basic human decency?" I laughed, finishing his sentence.
He laughed back at me and I felt happy. "Well sure, I guess that works." I stood up to hug him. He stood up too, facing me, and allowing me to hug him.
"Hold onto him so tightly Marsen. Because I guarantee you it's the best feeling in the whole wide world." I said while squeezing him. Marsen chuckled at my words and squeezed me back.
When we stepped back from one another, his eyebrows curled upwards as he gave me a cautious glance at my body. Before I could ask him why he looked like that, he spoke. "Is there something you need to tell me, Ame?"
I furrowed my brows. "No?" I said inquisitively. "Is something the matter?" I asked.
Marsen shook his head. "Something just- Nevermind. It's nothing."
I blinked. "Oh, okay." I was extremely confused. What was I doing to make Marsen act so off like this? I brushed it off just as he'd done, and excused myself. It was nearing lunchtime, so I decided to try and make myself and whoever else was around a meal.
When I came downstairs I noticed my father and Erandius sitting by the fire place while reading a book. When they both saw me I smiled. "Anybody up for some grilled cheese?"
"That would be lovely, thank you dear." My father's gaze quickly went back to his book.
"Yes, thank you Amethia." Erandius smiled at me before returning to his own book.
I made my way into the kitchen and had barely begun preparing the food when a loud screech rang out through the house, followed by loud laughter. My father jumped to his feet and Erandius had spun in his wheelchair to look towards the staircase where the sound came from.
"Amethia!" Kaeala's voice shrieked for me as she bounded down the stairs. "He's awake, Amethia! He's awake!"
I nearly dropped to my knees when I heard the news. I slammed the refrigerator door shut and bolted towards Kaeala and the stairs.
"He's asking for you!" She said to me with teary eyes as she grabbed hold of my arm to pull me along to Narien.
Tears streamed down my face in joy as we raced up the stairs and towards Narien's room. She pushed the door open and Narien was still laying there with his eyes half open. I quickly released myself from Kaeala's grasp and dropped to my knees next to the bed where Narien was facing. I grabbed his hand that poked out from under the covers and smiled.
"Hi Narien, it's me!" I said happily to my husband.
Kaeala approached behind me. "See honey? You were asking for her so I went and got her!" She reassured Narien happily.
I heard a few other people enter the room behind me before Narien had been able to say anything. He blinked at me once or twice as his face twisted into a confused expression. Finally, his lips parted and his aching voice rang out:
"You're not Ithalia."
