The Rejection
Chapter 1: The Rejection
The Moon Bond Ceremony was supposed to be the happiest night of Luna Rose’s life.
At twenty-two, Luna had spent years wondering who her fated mate would be. Tonight, beneath the enormous silver moon, she finally expected to receive her answer.
She stood among hundreds of pack members, her heart pounding as Alpha Kael Blackthorn approached.
Kael was twenty-eight, feared throughout the Northern Territory, and known as the most powerful Alpha in the region. His dark eyes met Luna’s.
The moment their eyes locked, Luna’s wolf suddenly stirred.
Mate.
Her breath caught.
Kael was her mate.
A wave of excitement rushed through her, but it disappeared when she saw the strange expression on Kael’s face.
He looked shocked.
Then afraid.
The Elder stepped forward.
“By the blessing of the Moon, the bond has been revealed.”
Everyone waited.
Luna smiled nervously at Kael.
She expected him to accept her.
Instead, Kael took a step back.
His jaw tightened.
“I reject you as my mate.”
Silence fell over the ceremony.
Luna stared at him, unable to understand what she had just heard.
“W-what?”
Kael’s voice remained cold.
“I reject you, Luna Rose.”
Her heart shattered.
Whispers spread through the crowd.
Luna felt every eye on her.
Humiliation burned through her body, but something stranger happened.
A sharp pain suddenly appeared on her shoulder.
She gasped and grabbed it.
A silver crescent-shaped mark slowly appeared on her skin.
The Elder’s face turned pale.
“The Moon Queen…”
Luna looked at her in confusion.
“What are you talking about?”
Before the Elder could answer, a mysterious voice echoed inside Luna’s mind.
The heir has awakened.
Luna froze.
Who are you?
No answer came.
Instead, a vision flashed before her eyes.
A beautiful woman wearing a silver crown stood beneath a blood-red moon.
Then the vision vanished.
Luna stumbled backward.
Kael caught her before she fell.
For the first time that night, fear appeared clearly in his eyes.
“Luna…”
She looked up at him.
“Why did you reject me?”
Kael said nothing.
And somehow, Luna knew that his rejection was hiding a secret far more dangerous than heartbreak.
Outside the territory, a pair of silver eyes watched the ceremony from the darkness.
A deep voice whispered,
“The Moon Queen has awakened.”
To be continued…
