Laney turned the radio up and sang along with a country song, focusing on each word so that she wouldn’t think about Billy Redford. She drove across town to the cul de sac where her parents still lived. Oliver was there playing in their back yard. Her cute five year old would be starting kindergarten next week at Echo Ridge Elementary. They’d hardly spent any time apart while Laney was a stay-at-home mom. After her divorce last year, she’d worked odd jobs from home and at daycares so that she could care for Oliver. The job at Paisley’s Petals was the first full-time position she’d held since before Oliver was born.
