Chapter 4
Friday afternoon, Billy was driving across town to get started on the framing of Drew and Chelsea’s house when his sister called.
“Hey, Billy. Do you have a minute?” Kelli asked.
“That depends on what you want.”
“Why do you think I want something?” Kelli’s voice pitched higher.
Billy smiled. His sister worked as a counselor at Echo Ridge High and since moving back, she’d roped Billy into more than one school project. “Because you only call me during the day when you need something.”
Kelli groaned. “I wanted to wait until tonight, but I have plans with Greg. He’s taking me on an actual date.”
“Well, I hope you have fun. I’m almost to my job site. Do you want me to save you some time and just say no right now?”
“Billy!”
