Billy’s plan to avoid Laney had failed miserably. She’d overcome every objection he’d brought up and she was insistent that they couldn’t let down the Homecoming committee. In the end, he’d agreed to work with her at his shop. The worst part was that he was looking forward to working with her. She was vivacious as always, with fun ideas that popped into her brain and out her mouth before she had a chance to filter them. Laney carried an energy with her everywhere she went that spilled onto those around her. Billy had always loved spending time with her, which was exactly the reason he shouldn’t have agreed to work with her. He was opening the door to more hurt and pain.
