The pack house was quiet, too quiet. It's like everyone was afraid of speaking out loud.
Even without having someone tell me what was happening, I could already guess it right.
Vivian must have lost her baby last night.
I could tell from how the pack members stared at me — like a murderer.
The murderer they branded me without finding out the truth.
I had remained kneeling outside the pack house as Hunter ordered before he left carrying a bleeding Vivian in his arms.
I endured the cold night here with nobody offering me even a cloth to cover myself.
I mean, why would they? No one would be interested to incur the Alpha's wrath by helping me.
The sound of heavy footsteps pulled me from the daze I had slipped into.
I didn't need to look up to know who it was.
The fury emanating from him announced his identity long before I could open my already tired eyes.
Even then, I looked up anyway and only one thought crossed my mind; grief looked terrifying on an Alpha.
Hunter stopped a metre away and regarded me with those dark eyes that I once foolishly dreamed would look at me with something other than hatred.
"She lost the baby." He said, his voice quiet and somehow that was worse than his roaring.
My stomach dropped even when I had already anticipated the bad news.
"Hunter, I…" I opened my mouth to say something only to close it..I mean, what was I supposed to say? I'd most especially get kicked again if I said something so I held my tongue.
"She lost my baby." He repeated, his hate filled gaze settling on me heavily.
"Are you satisfied that your plan worked perfectly?"
I exhaled slowly. Here we go again, being accused of something I didn't commit.
"I didn't push Vivian." I said, holding his gaze. "I didn't cause her to lose the baby. I have told you this and I will keep telling you this because it is the truth." I declared.
Yet again, he didn't believe me and the look he gave me — it was terrifying.
"Everyone in that hall witnessed you push my Luna down those stairs!" Hunter snarled, his Alpha power crashing into me and making my head hurt.
He was punishing me.
“ How dare you stand there with your filthy mouth and insult my intelligence?"
I wanted to remind him that I was still kneeling, not standing but that would earn me more broken ribs.
"I am telling the truth." I insisted, my voice trembling but not breaking.
That seemed to trigger his violence because what followed was a slap.
It was so hard that my head snapped sideways. I tasted blood on my tongue.
I slowly turned my face back to him, eyes filled with defiance.
"You can kill me right now and I still won't admit to something I didn't do." I repeated.
Something dangerous flashed on his face and he crouched down until we were eye level.
"You did this because I chose her.
You killed our baby because I chose Vivian over you. Your jealousy killed my child." He observed. He was wrong.
"That is not true." I whispered.
"You are a bitter, pathetic, jealous omega who couldn't accept her place." He hissed, his hand gripping my chin so hard that it hurt.
His accusation made something inside me to snap.
"I am your mate." The words left my mouth before I could stop them.
“ I am the one the Moon Goddess chose for you. Whatever you feel for Vivian doesn't erase what we are to each other."
Hunter released my chin and laughed.
“ My mate.” He repeated.
“How long are you going to use that? How many times will you rub it on my face that I was cursed with something filthy like you?”
He turned to look at me, his gaze holding nothing but sheer hatred and disgust.
“ To me, you are nothing but a worthless piece of s**t. You don't even deserve to breathe the same air with me.
Since you won't admit your mistakes or show remorse, since you want to play tough, let me show you how I break bitches like you.” Hunter declared, the look on his face pure psychotic.
“ Guards!” He roared and two men I hadn't noticed before approached.
“ Drag this criminal and throw her where she deserves. I need a confession from her, no matter what method you use.
I want you to make sure she understands the value of telling the truth." He ordered.
My heart plummeted. This was it for me, the hell he promised was about to descend on me and for what? For being paired with Hunter?
Hunter didn’t spare me another glance as he walked away.
Looking at his retreating back, I could not help but smile bitterly.
How twisted could my life be? How did I end up scorned and hated by the one person who was supposed to love and protect me unconditionally?
Was the moon Goddess blessing me with a mate or cursing me with one?
Hunter called me his curse but was I really his curse or was he mine?
The guards grabbed me harshly and dragged me through the pack house.
Everywhere I passed, the pack members either glared or snickered. The others just ignored me and went on with their business.
I mean, I was already branded a sinner.
I was the reason why their Alpha lost his heir.
After what felt like forever, the sound of metal cluttering announced our arrival to the dungeons.
The guards carelessly threw my body across the space and I landed with a thud.
I didn't flinch nor make a sound. My body was already used to the pain and my heart was already dead.
“ I advise you to give the Alpha what he wants or we won't go easy on you.” One of the guards said as he secured the locks.
“ It's fine if she doesn't confess. We can have fun with her. The Alpha didn't forbid us from playing with her.” The other one added and I trembled, fear gripping my heart.
