Tyler wasn’t surprised that Ruby snuck out as soon as she thought he was asleep, but he was disappointed.
The disappointment had nothing to do with her wanting to sneak away. He might even have lost respect for her if she hadn’t tried to escape.
What bothered him was that she snuck away while spending the night with him. Had he such little effect on her that she wanted to leave as soon as she thought he was asleep? Had she no respect for his skills as a hunter?
He sighed as soon as she left the cottage. He hadn’t been fully asleep, but he had been drifting. The cottage was warm and there were few moments in life when he could curl up beneath his mother’s blanket and have a girl like Ruby in the room watching him sleep. It was oddly comforting.
