chapter three

Of course he wanted other things. Don't they all. I clutched the pepper spray tighter. "The only thing I can offer you right now are cleaning services. So if it ain't that, then we ain't talking" my heart was beating fast but I appeared confident. He laughed, a loud blood curling kind of laugh. Then his expression went cold. " You act like you're not scared but your pulse says other wise" he licked his lips " it's exhilarating" What did he mean by my pulse? I took a step back, braced myself and brought out the pepper spray. But before I could even blink, he was holding me by the throat. It happened so fast my head spun. What the heck! "You smell" he took a whiff of the air " delicious little one" he purred. He snarled at me and once again, I saw his sharp fangs. Oh my gosh! They're real! They are really real. Is this how I'm gonna die. A loud scream left my lips as his fangs pierced the skin on my neck. Sucking and draining all the blood in my system. There was still a lot of things I wanted to do, many things I haven't had the chance to do. Like ride a bike, or go to Disneyland, or kiss a guy. The list could go on all night. My chance to do those things was slowly draining before my eyes. Someone help me! Black spots began to colour my vision and felt my body began to loose its energy. I couldn't move, i felt helpless, like a weak little girl. I haven't lived. I don't wanna die! I don't wanna die! My eyes widened as I felt my heart stop beating. There was no pounding, no sound, nothing. Was I dead? Is this what death is like? Wait, something isn't right. I screamed, this time not from being drained by a vampire, but because my insides were on fire. It burned. The next thing I knew I was on the cold hard floor, still unable to move. I watched with sheer panic as the vampire that had killed me fell to his knees and dropped on the floor beside me. His eyes wide, staring at nothing. I moved in and out of consciousness and the last thing I saw was a pair of squeaky clean leather shoes running towards me. The shoes had a pair of amber eyes, just like the stranger before. Since when did shoes have eyes. ******* Am I dead? Am I in heaven or hell? Oh God please don't let me be in hell. I panicked. I was too scared to open my eyes, I didn't want to see what the afterlife looked like. But if I might be going to hell. "Open your eyes dear" the sound of the soothing voice made my eyes open instantly. Was that one of God's angels, devil's angels won't have a nice voice right. The owner of the voice chuckled in amusement. I turned my head to the side and there, beside my bed was a bird in a cage. I looked around the room for the owner of the voice but there was no one. There was a chuckle again and I sat up. "Please don't tell me this is the road to hell" my voice was shaky and my lips trembled. The soothing voice burst out in laughter. This time, I got up from the bed, I was still in my clothes. " Who's there?" "Can you not see me child" the voice spoke again "I'm not afraid of you, Show yourself" I said, but I was definitely afraid. What if it was a demon with a pitch fork. "You say that but I can smell your fear" the voice said again. I turned and stared at the bird. It was impossible, that can't be possible. "Are you the one talking to me?" I dared to ask. I must have seemed crazy, speaking to a bird. "Yes" it replied and I jumped back with a scream. "How is this happening" I put my hand on both sides of my face. "I have no idea either. This is the first time for me too" the bird said. The door opened and I ran towards the edge of the room. I carried the first thing my hand came in contact with to use as a weapon. It was a vase. The door opened wider and a man poked his head. I didn't wait to see who it was as I threw the vase at the door. If it was an angel with a pitch fork, at least that might scare them away. "f**k Isla" the man or maybe angel exclaimed in annoyance. He knew my name? But most of all, he had the most beautiful voice ever. Stay focused Isla, devil's always know how to draw you in. He opened the door wider and walked in, without a care in the world. I braced myself for whatever was to come. But what I had expected, was not what he was. It was the handsome stranger that was at the diner. "You!" A feeling of relief washed over me, knowing at least it was a familiar face. I didn't know him at all but for some reason I felt safe. "Are you dead too?" I asked He stared at me with scrunched brows but then he burst into laughter. It sounded melodious. "Why would you think that Isla" he said He shifted from one foot to the other awkwardly "You have a wild imagination Isla" the bird sneered "Do you hear that too ?" I asked, pointing at the bird "Hear what?" "Her. She keeps talking but it's like it's in my head" I said He stared at me with a hooded gaze. His face contorting slightly. "You need to lie down" He moved closer and held my hand. I bit my lip as I felt a tingly sensation at the point where our skin touched. He seemed to have felt it too because he pulled back abruptly. "Lie down, I'll get someone to check on you" he said before rushing out and leaving me alone. I wanted him to stay. For the first time in my life, i felt alone.
