GRAYSON'S POV I rushed out of the room before i di something that i would regret later. Her scent was intoxicating, drawing me in and I was clinging to it like it was my life source. I couldn't let my gaurd down with her. I rushed down the halls and into my office to calm myself down. The pack shouldn't see their alpha in such a vulnerable state. They shouldn't. The last time I had felt the mate bond was twenty years ago, when Mariam was still alive. We had only spent two years of our lives together before she was killed by vampires. I found Isla only by chance, discovering she was my second chance mate was a kick in the guts. I didn't want a second chance mate. And she's so young, old enough to be my daughter. This is wrong in many ways. "Alpha, you summoned me" Viktor, my beta walked into my office. "Call the pack doctor to check on Isla. She woke up" I said without looking at him. He brought out his phone and placed a call. I almost face palmed myself, realizing I could have just called her or used the mind link. "Alpha are you alright" he asked concerned "I'm fine" I snapped at him. It wasn't his fault but I just couldn't control it. He retreated back, but still stayed. We have known each since we were born, spending forty two years together. "You cannot continue like this Grayson" Viktor said. In this moment, he wasn't my beta, he was my friend. I sighed heavily " I know, but this cannot happen. She is a child" "I know that. But the mate bond is not something that anyone can fight, and that includes you too." He said softly. "Even if I do accept her, what about the pack? How are they gonna react?" I said sharply "Since when did you care what the pack thinks about your love life. No one can question the moon goddess, not even the pack" he said "They won't accept her and you know it" I stared at him, squarely in the eye and he looked away. Everybody loved Mariam, bringing someone else as Luna was like taunting her memories. "But you can't break it off either. You don't really have a choice" he said staring at nothing. He was in thought. "She's thesame age as Yasmine. Thesame age as your daughter" Viktor shifted uncomfortably "what I this was Yasmine" Viktor snarled " don't bring her into his. Yasmine is different" "See what I mean. This is exactly how everyone else would feel. There is no difference" I said and he looked away in shame. We were both silent until he finally spoke " you can't let her go. She was attacked by vampires" "I know. I have to protect her, I can't let history repeat itself" I banged my fist on the top of the table. When I found Isla, I had planned to watch her from a distance. But I ended up following her to her workplace after I smelt the desire on that lowlife. I couldn't just walk away. After that, I thought I would walk away and let her live her life, but I ended up following her home. I was only going to watch her from a distance. I had decide to leave, until the sound of her screaming made me turn back around. But when I got there, the vampire was dead and isla was unconscious. I had no idea how it happened, or who saved her but I was more than grateful. I wouldn't have been able to live with myself if she had died. "I can't let her go back unprotected. A vampire died and I'm sure they must be searching for who killed him" I said "She's human, they won't think it's her" he said, dismissing my fear "Not if she's my mate. If they find out about it she will be in danger" I said, a shrill of fear running through me. How could someone be so fragile. "Then we don't let them know that" he said in a ' matter of fact" tone " you don't want to mate her anyways so problem solved. I shook my head " I can't risk it Viktor. There might be moments where I slip up and act on the mate bond. Those moments are enough for them to know that she is special to me. I can't let her go, she'll have to stay here, with me where she is safe" I said, leaving no room for discussion. "Then there would be one problem. How do you convince her to stay" he asked. "We can offer her a job with a good pay and a house. Make it an offer that she can't resist" I said with a grin on my face. That could work. "That's great but don't forget that she is human. She doesn't know about wolves. How are we gonna break that to her?" he asked again. Viktor has always been the type to make sure that every loose ends were tied. That's why we both worked together perfectly, and have been friends for this long. "Send Yasmine, she's good with people. It would also calm her down if she sees someone her age" I said "Great idea" Viktor said sarcastically. He walked out of the office, leaving me alone with my thoughts. This might just work.
