The drive back to Santa Fe felt longer than when she'd left. Perhaps it was because her mind was racing with anger last time. Now Aliyah's mind was just excited, eager to share her world with Neo.
Apparently, Neo had never been outside of Michigan, so he was about to be in for a culture shock. Aliyah talked and talked about all of her favorite things to do and her favorite places to go. She talked about her mother's meals and her sister's crude sense of humor. She said she wished that they would have time to do all of that.
When the night began to settle in Aliyah let Neo take the wheel so she could sleep. He was determined that he could drive in a straight line for a couple of hours even with a bad shoulder, so she let him.
They were halfway to Santa Fe when Neo woke Aliyah up.
