Chapter 6 What happened to James

1031 Words
Jasmine’s POV I had Onya make an egg sandwich quickly for James. He must be starving, and he would need his energy. He should rest today and then tomorrow we should be able to start light training and build up from there based on how he felt. He shouldn’t shift for a few days not until he was feeling one hundred percent other wise that would drain any energy he had built up. I rushed back up the stairs and allowed James to eat in peace; something I am sure he had missed being on the battle front. He ate slowly, like he wanted to remember eat bite. After several minutes he handed me the plate which I returned to Onya who had came up to check on him as well. Now he was going to tell me what happened. “We were ambushed in the early morning it was around four am. We were on patrol about three of us when there was a group of twenty-five or so and they had masked their scent, so they were on us quick. We immediately lost one, I mind linked back as quickly as I could. A few were close but it was just me in a few moments I was circled before my back up could get there. Once it did, we only finished off about 3 of them before we were forced to retreat. I was barely conscious when someone drugged me back to safety and eventually here. I learn later as I was going in and out that it was their beta that had led and organized the strike. They attacked four other patrol groups at the same time pushing our lines back even further. “ James told me. I stared at him as blankly as I could. We lost several of the pack that night I remember from my fathers yelling and drinking. He feels the loss of all of them. “That’s it then. We will get you back up and moving and do light training for the next few days, no shifting until you are one hundred percent, and I will train with you, and I will go back to the fronts with you and push them back and get revenge for what they did to you and to our pack lives they took.” I told her confidently. James nodded. If he did disagree, he wouldn’t argue with me right now, I was determined. I couldn’t stay here couped up doing nothing like my father did. The rest of our evening was calm, we had a nurse from the pack hospital come and help my brother bathe and get around. She confirmed by tomorrow he would no longer need the additional assistance. His wolf was strong, full of Alpha blood and ready to take over the pack soon. I couldn’t wait for my father to be removed. My brother would be a much better leader. James was selfless and always put the pack first. I tried to ask about my best friend, who was also fighting at the front however James had not seen her. I was hoping that meant good news. If we didn’t get a report before we finished training and headed to the front I would search for her to join my brother and I on our journey and take revenge on the shitty pack that we faced. I headed back to my room and shower and ate the plate Onya had left for me on the bedside table when there was a knock on my door. I went to it and opened halfway unsure who would be knocking at this hour. It was Theo, the gamma’s son he was about eighteen years old, very handsome and built. Looks like he just got out of the shower and had only a towel hanging low on his hips revealing the deep v cut of his body leading down to his manhood. Water still was running down his chest and his abs. He smiled watching me admire him. I clear my throat, “What do you what Theo?” I asked. His grinned never fading, “Apparently the same thing you do,” He shot me a wink. I rolled my eyes and shook my head. “Come on Jasmine, you haven’t found your mate and you made it clear you didn’t care if you did that you would likely reject them anyway. Claim me as your mate, I would claim you as mine, we can mark each other, I could give you a wonderful night every night.” His words started out as a plea then ending cockily with a flashy smile. I couldn’t help but smile back at him. He came calling at my door about once a month asking my to claim him as my mate. He wouldn’t gain any status change, as I was the second born. He always swore to me that I was the love the love of his life and whoever his destined mate was didn’t matter because I would be his chosen one. “As tempting as that sounds, hun. I will tell you like I did last month and the month before that and that. I am going to wait, at least give the poor fellow the chance of failing my expectations first. Then and only then Theo will I truly consider your offer to be your chosen mate and I yours.” I smiled up at him battering my lashes hoping he would agree and leave me so that I could get rest for my start of training tomorrow. “Alright. I’ll hold you to it.” He smiled and pointed his finger at me. He leaned in close and gave my cheek a kiss. “Good night, Jasmine.” He whispered as he pulled away. “Good night, Theo.” I replied softly. I watched him walk down the corridor. He would make a lovely mate if my destined mate was a loser. Who knew what I would end up with? The moon goddess had a flare for throwing wrenches into peoples plans, so I always made it a point not to plan.
