Training

Nash walked into his office as he finished texting Owen.  A moment later Owen walked into his office and closed the door. “What is so important?” “The girls’ house was ransacked before our guys could get there to move their stuff here.  He didn’t know if anything was missing.  I told him to pack up everything anyway and bring it here.” He paused and looked out the window “I think the girls need some training so they can protect themselves if we are not with them.” “I agree.  Of course, I don’t really want to be away from her anyway, so I don’t mind being her guard.” Owen smiled wickedly mostly to himself. “Be serious Owen.  Someone is after our mates and we need to find out who.” With that thought Nash picked up his phone again. “Hey, ask the neighbors if they saw anything. Try and get at least a description if you can. Thanks.” And he hung up the phone. “Hey brother, they are here with us.  Nobody is getting to them.” Owen saw and felt the worry on his brother’s brow.  “Let’s hope so.” Nash looked down at his phone and started texting again. “I think the girls should know.  They need to be prepared.” Owen nodded in agreement and they walked down the hallway into the living room where the girls were sitting on the couch. “Well, we had planned on surprising you by having all your stuff moved here so you didn’t have to leave all your stuff behind, and my guy called me and let me know that your house was ransacked.  He said a lot of stuff was destroyed but he was not sure if anything was missing.” Nash paused for a moment. “He was going to ask the neighbors if they saw anything.” “Talk to Mrs. Johnson kitty corner from us.  She is always sitting in her window watching the world go by.  Her house is the blue A frame house.” Jezz stated. Nash texted his guy to talk to that neighbor “We also want you to start self defense training and learning to work with your wolves.  Now I know this moving fast, but I think people are after you.  Your grandmother, that we got the book from, said someone was after your mother.” Nash paused for a moment not really sure if he had mentioned that before and by the looks on their faces he hadn’t. “What?” Dallas said surprised “Do you really think it’s the same people?” Her heart was beating fast. Had she always been in danger? “We are going to find out.  Nobody is going to get you with me around, I would rather die than let someone take you from me.” Nash was texting like crazy trying to get some trainers together for tomorrow. Dallas gently put her hand on his hand, and he looked up at her and she could see the concern in his eyes. “Do you think we could find our mother?” She had never hoped, never entertained the thought but if her mother gave them up to protect them then she is worth finding. Nash saw a flurry of emotion in Dallas and felt it in the bond.  “It could lead us to her.  We only have what you have been told and what your grandmother told us and maybe there is clue in that book.” Nash gave her all of his attention with the answer. It would be important to him as well. “Wow sis. Wouldn’t that be crazy?” Jezz stood next to Dallas and touched her arm trying to give support.  She had never mentioned their mother, never asked, never cried for her, never wished for her. Nash’s phone got a few notifications and he read his texts. “Okay, training starts tomorrow at 9 am in the basement.  We will all go.” “Sounds good.” Dallas said confidently although she didn’t really feel it. What would training indicate? She was not sure if she even had a wolf even though Nash was pretty sure. Later that night… “I think we could just order in.  I am tired from all the traveling and all the emotions of the last few days.” Dallas said as she walked into the kitchen with her grey leggings and black fitted tshirt.  Nash looked her up and down and felt a wave of desire stir in him “I’m up for that.  What you like? We have stuff here to cook too.  I could cook you a steak.” “Oh, steak sounds wonderful.  Is there enough for all of us?” She was so used to living on the edge of being broke they never had more than they needed. “Of course, My Darling. Unless you do not like Filet Mignon?” Nash opened up the fridge and began rummaging through it.  “Never had it.  If you like it then I am sure I will like it.” She smiled at him as he peeked around the refrigerator door. “Humm…well then it’s going to have to be good.” He started putting things on the counter and then he walked out on the deck and started the grill.  He made a steak dinner for a queen or two as he served everyone a plate filled with steak, garlic potatoes, salad and fruit salad with mango and papaya. “Wow, Nash, you must be the cook.  This looks wonderful.  Dallas does most of the cooking between us as well.  I just never take the time to do it right, always in a hurry.” Jezz said as he handed her a plate of food. “Hum…sounds like someone else I know.” Nash half smiled looking at Owen who had a ‘I didn’t do it’ look on his face.  Everyone laughed and had a great meal.  Dallas thought it was the most delicious steak she had ever had. It was strange how they all just belonged together like perfect pieces of a puzzle. She often caught Nash staring at her and it always made her heart skip a beat.  Was this actually real? I wonder when I am going to wake up? She thought to herself as she cleared the plates and brought them over and started washing them. Nash tried to step-in and she held up a soapy hand “You cooked; I clean.  That is the rules.” Dallas insisted. “Fine, then I will dry.” He knew he had a dishwasher, but he wanted an excuse to be standing next to her for as long as possible. He grabbed a towel and went to work. “So how do you know for sure I am what you think I am?” Dallas asked casually. “A werewolf?” Nash wanted to confirm. “Yes, and your mate and that that woman was actually my grandmother.” “Well, your wolf saved my life and she spoke to me when you were sick in the hospital.  Once I saw your eyes shift to the amber color.  That tells me that you definitely have a wolf in there and she is closer to the surface than you think.  Sometimes wolves can act as intuition rather than just in your face.  The woman donated us her DNA to be able to confirm that you are who she thinks you are.  She was the last of her tribe that had been killed off.  Your DNA matches hers so there is no question that she was your grandmother. For the last thing, am I sure you are my mate?” Nash put his towel down and looked at her “I have no bout that you are my mate.  You make me boil from the inside and every time we touch the heat is unmistakable.  Plus, our wolves are the actual drivers of the mating bond.  Wolves mate forever.  My wolf, his name is Colton, he cannot stop panting when you are around.  He whines like a little pup when you walk away, and my heart stops a little each time you walk into the room.  Do you feel those things for me?” Nash was curious.  He had no idea that washing dishes could bring out so much in a person. “Sometimes I hear this whisper inside my head.  I have heard once or twice over my adult life, but I have heard several times since meeting you.  It guided me to mark you telling me that you are the one.” Dallas smiled to herself remembering that intimate moment. “I guess I do feel the same as you, I miss you when you are gone, and I get all giddy when you are close by.  I have never in my life allowed myself to be connected with someone emotionally, except for my sister.  So it’s like I am having a war with myself where my old self wants to run away because you are just going to abandon me; but the new self wants nothing more than to just be in your arms safe and sound.  I am doing my best to be the new me, I want you to know that.  I feel like sometimes I am sending mixed signals; I just don’t know how to trust people.  Something deep inside me trusts you and I want to foster that; I want that emotion to win.  Can you help me?” She was surprised as all the words coming out of her mouth, it was just like she was throwing up all her pent-up emotions. “Oh my God.  I will climb mountains for you.  I will do whatever you want me to do to prove to you that I am here to stay.  Please just never shut me out, I have been surrounded by people who love me my entire life and I know I can depend on them with my life so I might not always know what you are feeling.” Nash took her soapy hands out of the dishwater and looked her in the eyes. “From this day forward, you will not be alone.  I will be here to fight with you, love you and protect you.  Never, ever doubt that.” She felt those words to her core and knew they were true words.  “Dallas, I love you.” He was breathless saying those words to her.  She gazed into his green eyes and felt herself fall in love with him.  He tilted his head and closed his eyes as he brought her in for a kiss.  Initially is a soft kiss, gentle and then it grew in passion and meaning.  Her heartbeat quickened as she wrapped her arms around his neck, and he pulled her in by the waist. “Whoa, okay.  Maybe we need to come up with some rules around here.” Owen walked into the kitchen interrupting them.  He smiled to himself that he was so funny. “Jezz and I are going to go to bed.  We had kind of talked about a movie, but she is tired and if she is tired then I am tired.” He pulled a grape off the fruit bowl and popped it in his mouth.  “So good night, training starts first thing in the morning.” Owen left the room.  “Good night sis.” Dallas heard from the hallway. “Good night, love you.” Dallas said to the long hallway where she could not see Jezz but she knew she was there.  She finished cleaning off the sink and hanging the towel up to dry.  She loved cleaning, it always made her feel better. “We could go to bed too if you want.  I know it’s been a long couple of days for you.” Nash rubbed her arms and she nodded in agreement.  Sleep did sound good to her, sleeping with him next to her.  She suddenly wondered how much sleep she was going to be getting. She shut the lights off and followed Nash down the hallway.
