Winona woke up to hearing Colton this morning. She had been waiting for him to reach out, she had known he was not dead, but she was not sure why he was taking so long to find her. She had been here for months already.
Nine months ago
She was barely conscious being loaded on the airplane in the middle of the night. She did not want to stir too much for fear of alerting them to her being awake. She heard many different voices but a lot of them had the same Scottish accent. She could feel her sister next to her, but her body seemed lifeless. She wanted so badly to just take everyone out in the airplane, but she had no idea if she was even able to stand up.
She was just laying there pretending to be unconscious listening and learning. Maybe it was time to get rid of these people who had been hunting her kind down for the last century.
“Sir, we will be landing soon.” She heard the attendent say and then she felt a pinch in her arm and everything went dark again.
She woke up in this same bed she has been waking up from since she got here. She saw a girl giving her food and fast as lightening she grabbed her arm. “Where am I?” The girl was silent “I will pull you through these bars and break all your bones one by one if you don’t tell me where I am.”
“Scottland.” She was feeling the pressure from the bars as Winona continued to press her.
“Is there someone else who looks like me here?”
She nodded her head with tears starting to come to her eyes.
“Is there anyone else who is kept here like that beside us two?” The girl was reluctant but then she nodded.
“Good girl, now that was not so bad, was it?” Winona let her lose and she fell away from the bars and then quickly scrambled out the door.
She sat for a while facing the wall just thinking about him. Her beautiful mate. She had hoped she had given enough of herself not only to heal him but to find her. She thought about making love with him, about laughing with him about just being herself with him. Her heart was aching for him. She was going to have to put those feeling and thoughts away for now because otherwise they’d kill her.
“You are stunning.” Winona turned and faced her captor.
“Who are you?” She demanded.
He raised an eyebrow at her surprised by her demanding spirit. “I am Gibbes” He bowed politely. “This is my humble abode. I hope you find it comfortable because it is going to be where you will live for a long time.”
She paced the bars in front of him her amber eyes glowing bright. This twirp was not going to keep her here. She had other plans for him, but they were going to have to wait until her mate comes. So, she bided her time. “What do you want from me?”
“Nothing much, just your life essence so I can absorb your power.” She stopped and looked at him “I thought that would get your attention.” He had a wickedness about him that she was trying to measure up. He walked too close to the bars and like liquid fire she reached out and pulled him into the bars. She looked deep in his eyes and she saw fear there. She scared him and she liked it like that. The next thing she felt was electricity running through her body making her let him lose and fall to the ground. Next time she would be ready for such an attack.
“Next time I won’t stop, and I will kill you.” Winona stood back up and dead stared at him until he left the room. “You can fall asleep tonight knowing you met the person who will end your life.” She shouted at him as he left the room.
Later that night when all was quiet she called out to her sister ‘Nishiime….are you there?’ She waited and called again. She called several times until finally she heard something back. ‘Yes, but I am tired.’
‘Stay with me sister. Stay with me. I will get us out of here.’ Winona pleaded.
‘Okay sister. I will heal her. She is badly wounded.’ Nishiime said.
‘Do not give up sister. We must prevail.’ Winona could sense that she was gone for now. She could sense another close by, but she had no idea how to reach them.
Winona started systematically testing her cage to find the weakest point. She also started calling in food because she was not going to eat anything these were serving her. She was not above eating rats, rabbits or birds that made their way into her cage. She wondered who this other person was. She had a strange feeling it was someone close to her but not her mate. She would not get that answer until much later.
Present day
“Winona, are you out there?” It was barely a whisper from Colton. At first Winona thought it was a dream but then she heard it again.
‘Yes, yes my love. I hear you.’ She screamed back and then it was gone. The connection was gone. She was breathing heavy with excitement just hearing his voice. She knew he would be here soon. Something was keeping him from reaching out.
Gloria
She watched her son being sedated and she just felt like it was wrong, so wrong. Her wolf was howling angry with her betrayal. She hit the nurse button and called her in.
“I want you take every single tube out of him so he can walk out of here next time he wakes up.” She demanded as the pack Luna.
“How are you so sure that he will get up and walk out of here?” The nurse attempted to argue.
“Because he is the Alpha.” Gloria was not going to second guess the Alpha again. Then she got on her phone. “Dugan, can you come to the hospital. I want to go over some stuff with you in person. Thanks. Sure, an hour sounds good.” She hung up her phone and looked out the window standing next to Owen. She looked at his beautiful face. She remembered when they were born how lucky she felt. How proud their father was. She took his hand in hers. “Honey, I know you are in there. I know your wolf is strong. Please come back to us. Your mate needs you; your brother needs you and I need you.” His wounds had all healed. He had gotten lots of shrapnel to his back and hit his head in the blast. His hair was growing back from the brain surgery. She skimmed her fingers over his cheek trying to reach him like she had done so many times.
Dugan was Noah’s 3rd in command and extremely loyal to him and his boys. Mark was the current acting Alpha until Nash can take over. Mark was Noah’s 2nd in command before his untimely death. He was running things smoothly with the anticipation of Nash’s return. She trusted both of them with everything. “Luna, what did you need?” Dugan was standing in the doorway.
“Your Alpha will be waking up soon. I have had all of his tubes removed as he had made it his wish to start looking for his mate as soon as possible.” She walked over to Nash’s bedside and looked down at him “He woke up in a panic about 3 hours ago, they sedated him, but it should be wearing off soon. I would expect that he would want to get started immediately. I am hoping you can brief him as soon as he is ready.” She paused for a moment. “Not a word about this to anyone. Who ever took those girls was working from the inside. I know it.”
