This poem is about dealing with a toxic family and figuring out how to heal the broken pieces. Mind being a war zone, body covered in invisible scars and trauma ruling over you like a dead weight. Just trying to survive.

Dealing with a toxic family
Dealing with a toxic family is like looking at beautiful soft flower petals. At first glance, they look like they offer so much promise and look harmless. Until you get too close and find yourself torn apart by the barbed wires. Their words cut like thorns on a rose, and blood seeps down the thorn staining your skin the color of a rose. They look so sweet and warm until you get too close, caught in a spiders web, entangled in lies and bitter-sweet memories. It's then you realize you were the only one being genuine about your intent. They however the very people that share your blood, the very people that are called "family" led you down a path of heartbreak and broken glass. Unable to move the cold creeps in and the warmth fades away. The petals shrivel up and crumble away. What was a beautiful daydream was wrapped up neatly hiding a bad dream. What a horrible way to live. Neither here nor there, simply existing until you find your strength to cut the sharp wires and walk away. By, Shae Kamerer Thank you for reading!
