Nightmare...
The growls of animals filled her ears and when she opened her eyes, she could see them. Human-like beings with fangs, glowing eyes and animals with fur bodies. She was in the middle of what seemed like a war, yet it also seemed like she was just a spectator watching from the side. There was blood everywhere and the screams that filled her ears made her heart beat increase. “Wake up!” Davina kept telling herself, her eyes were filled with fear, even though she knew that all what was in front of her right now was a dream. No, a hallucination because she remembered being in the doctor’s office just a while ago but what kind of weird hallucination was this? It felt so real, so real that she could feel the cool breeze whipping her skin at that moment. Perhaps this was what scared her the most. The thought that it was all real. She could see both men and women, changing and shifting into beasts, sinking their canines into each other. Their painful howls and screams filled her ears too and she clutched her chest when she felt a familiar pain shot up from there. When she looked up again, she finally saw him, at the other side with the beasts between them. Just like her, he seemed like a spectator who was watching from the side. He had dark-red hair and his eyes that seemed really dark were staring at her strangely. In each of these dreams or whatever she could call it, she kept seeing him making her wonder why. Who was he? And when she looked up to finally meet his cold, lifeless eyes, she froze. “Davina!” She saw a finger flick in front of her and she immediately snapped awake. The scenery changed too. There were no beast or war this time, it was just her sitting in front of the doctor in a large spaced office that was painted in white. “Did you hear all what I said just now?” asked doctor Martins. Davi swallowed at the doctor’s words and she shook her head. She didn’t hear a thing. Doctor Martins sighed and shook his head as he slid a file towards her. There was this look in his eyes that made her exhale “That’s your test report. You’re a doctor so you should probably know what that means” Davi took the file and opened it gingerly, she first saw the words ‘Patient reached critical stage’ and when she continued to read, she felt everything starting to turn into a blur. Her hands trembled as she dropped the file and looked at the doctor who now had a somber look on his face “W-what does this mean?” she breathed. Even though she understood perfectly what it meant, for some reasons, she wanted to hear the doctor tell it to her himself. Perhaps this was one of those hallucinations again. It had to be! “Davina,” The doctor called, taking a sigh, “I know this is hard to accept but the surgery wasn’t a success like we thought. The hole in your heart never healed, it swelled and merely covered the area that we examined. I’m sorry to be the one to announce this to you but you don’t have much days to live. In about two months’ time, your condition will worsen and I’m afraid to say there’s nothing we can do about it” As she continued to listen to the doctor’s words, tears pooled in her eyes and she stood up from her seat roughly, making the chair screech. Taking the test report with her, she staggered out looking lost. The words the doctor continued to say filtered out as only the other words he had said echoed in her ears ‘Two months left to live?’ Why was her life so pathetic? As a child, she had struggled with her heart which had a hole in it and when she was finally able to get the surgery, she celebrated after receiving the status of it being successful but only few days later, the pain in her chest came again. That was when she decided to take a test, only for her to be told that she was dying. Davina couldn’t even remember getting to her car and driving to her apartment. She fell on her couch the moment she entered the house and stared at the file in her hands in a daze. She soon fell asleep on her couch, thinking that everything would be alright the next time she wakes up but nope. She soon realized falling asleep was a big mistake because the moment her eyes closed, she was pulled into the familiar dream again where she kept seeing strange things, strange beings and the red-haired man. Davi woke up breathing heavily after tossing around on the couch that she fell off it. She wiped off the beads of sweat on her face as she stared ahead. She couldn’t understand why she kept seeing something like that. Was it some kind of disorder from her? She doubted it as it had only started a few days ago in the hospital. She had been attending to a patient when she suddenly heard a shrill sound that rang in her ears and then she was pulled into a different space. A sound on her door made her turn her head immediately and she knew it was Jennie when she heard the door open. Her best friend was the only other person who could freely enter her apartment. Davi's eyes caught the file that was now laying crumpled on the couch. Hearing the approaching footsteps, she hastily tried to pick it up but it fell and she quickly used her legs to push it under the couch while plastering a smile on her face when Jennie came into view. “You know smiling like that means you’re hiding something right? What is it this time?” said Jennie, slipping into her slippers as she strolled forward. Davina froze at first when she heard Jennie’s words. As expected, her best friend knew her really well. Maybe even better than she knew herself. She didn’t doubt it, but telling her the truth she had found out today… Davi knew how much it will break her and perhaps, she will start to treat her with more care after crying over it but it was the last thing she wanted right now. “What can I possibly hide from my master?” said Davi as she looked behind Jennie. When she didn’t see any other person, she asked “Didn’t Dave come with you?” “Don’t even start talking about that asshole!” Jennie suddenly looked upset and Davi wondered what had happened between her and her boyfriend. “Cheated again?” Davina looked like she knew the answer but she still asked. Jennie fell on the couch as she held her head “Damn f*cking cheater. Caught him in bed with some b***h” She replied calmer than her words sounded. “I wonder why you keep going back to him when he does the same thing each time” Davi sounded frustrated but she took her friend’s hand and forced a smile on her face “Wanna drink?” Jennie shook her head as she stared at her “Did you eat dinner yet?” She asked. “I was planning to cook noodles. How about that?” “You never take care of yourself” Now Jennie was the one to feel frustrated as she stood up and announced “I’ll cook” Hearing this, Davi’s eyes brightened. There was a mischievous look in her eyes as she followed Jennie who went to the fridge to get some of the things she will be needing then entered the kitchen. Davi helped her to wash the tomatoes and cut the vegetables with a smile on her face. Seeing this, Jennie shook her head “You were waiting for me to say I’ll cook right? What a sly being, telling me about eating noodles… tsk” “I was really going to eat noodles though” “Yeah, and I definitely look like I believe that” Jennie rolled her eyes. Davi’s phone rang and she cleaned her hands with a rag before she went to get it. Seeing the strings of unfamiliar numbers, she frowned as she answered the call. “Is this Davina Fredson?” asked a voice that sounded female but she couldn’t tell if it was a male either. “Yes, who are you?” “You need to come to Georgetown to pick up the rest of the items left in 101 before it will be taken out” Devina frowned when she heard that. The house in 101 belonged to her grandmother and ever since she was fifteen, she had never stepped foot there. Not even when her grandmother died. She did not go to take any of her things from the house and it had remained untouched. She wondered why this person was suddenly calling her to take them. It was a fact that she hated her grandmother and perhaps, part of her wanted to ignore this person but another part of her wanted to take another look at this house alone. Something she was curious about. “Right now? It’s quite late already and-” “Right now, Miss Davina else everything will be damaged before you get here tomorrow” said the caller and the line disconnected. Davi sighed as she wondered if she should really go into that house which scared her so much before she had ran away from her mentally ill grandmother or if she should just ignore it. ..
