Chapter 2: The banquet surprise

Later that afternoon, a package arrived for Cassie. she opened it. Inside lay a long, blue dress with a daring front split. The fabric shimmered in the light, and Cassie couldn’t help but gasp.

“This… this is beautiful,” she whispered to herself.

Her mother, Eliora Campbell, entered standing behind her. It looks so beautiful and I’m sure you will look so pretty in it. she said looking up at her daughter. Cassie smiled at her and nodded

Are you sure about this, my love?” she asked, her voice gentle but worried.

Cassie nodded, holding the dress against her chest. “Yes, Mama. Kaden wants to introduce me to his parents as his girlfriend tonight. I’m nervous… but I’m happy he chose me.”

Eliora hesitated. “I know you two love each other deeply, but… I’m just worried. His parents… they’ve always seen you as… well, their maid’s daughter. What if they don’t accept you? I don’t want you hurt.

Cassie’s eyes narrowed slightly, annoyance flashing across her face. “They will, Mama. His father likes me I’m sure of it.”

Taking a deep breath, she put on the dress. It hugged her in all the right places her breast popping up slightly.She applied a light, natural makeup. dismissing the makeup artist Kaden had called for earlier. She just wanted to look like herself not someone she wasn’t.

The hall for the banquet was magnificent, Golden chandeliers sparkled above, and the tables were covered in luxurious white and gold linens. Every corner of the room exuded wealth, sophistication, and power. Guests moved gracefully, their laughter soft and controlled, a mix of business and high society chatter.

Cassie stepped inside, and heads immediately turned. Every man in the room seemed to glance her way. She felt a small surge of confidence as she straightened her back.

Then, she spotted Selene standing in the corner, talking with Gabrielle. Cassie waved, and Selene came over with a bright smile.

“Hey, Cassie! You look stunning!” Selene praised.

Cassie smiled shyly. “Aww, thank you. And you look so beautiful too! I love your dress.”

“Thank you, Selene said softly.

Cassie’s eyes scanned the crowd.Where’s Kaden?she whispered.

Just then, she felt a familiar presence behind her. Here I am, a smooth voice said.

She turned and saw him He looked so perfect taking her breath away…White shirt, crisp pants, hair neatly styled and a little part flopping down his face. he was the most handsome man she had ever seen. Selene couldn’t help but stare almost drooling.

“Hey, love. How are you?” Kaden said, pulling her close and kissing her lips.

“I’m… fine,Cassie muttered, her cheeks turning red.

“You look breathtaking tonight, Kaden whispered, a naughty smirk on his lips. “I can’t wait to… eat you up.

Cassie slapped his chest playfully. Stop it! she said, her face now fully red.

Selene quickly looked away, trying not to blush herself. I’ll talk to you later, Cassie. Bye,” she said, walking back to Gabrielle.

Well let’s go find ourselves seat kaden said holding her hand ushering her to where he was before..

Gabrielle gave her a cruel smile from where she sat. Cassie frowned and looked away immediately.

The room suddenly quieted as Jordan Williams stepped up to the podium.

“Ladies and gentlemen,he began, his deep voice commanding attention. Welcome to the 25th Williams family banquet.. everyone clapped….I want to thank you all for coming to this year’s family banquet. This banquet means a lot to me…. It’s my way of celebrating my business anniversary over the years. And i thank those that have been a part of it… everyone clapped again. My wife my biggest supporter thank you.Emily smiled at him.

Cassie held her breath, sipping her drink nervously.

And to my son,Jordan continued, his gaze shifting toward Kaden. “Come forward.”

Kaden left Cassie’s side and whispered in her ear, “I’ll be right back.” She nodded, feeling a strange mix of pride and anxiety.

The crowd erupted in applause as Jordan continued. “My son, Kaden, will now take over the Williams Multipurpose Business. The youngest Ceo in town. Everyone clapped and cheered him.

Cassie blew him a small kiss from where she sat, and Kaden’s smile reached his eyes.

But then… Jordan’s eyes scanned the room and fell on Selene.

“And today i wanna introduce you all to Selene Hughes,” he said slowly, a sly smile playing on his lips, the future wife of my son Kaden. He said dropping the bombshell.

Cassie’s glass almost slipped from her hand. She held it more tightly.

Her heart stopped. The room went silent for a brief moment. Kaden’s expression froze, and all the confidence Cassie had felt just moments ago drained from her.

Selene’s eyes widened in shock, and Gabrielle smirked subtly from across the room.

Her mind raced… this wasn’t supposed to happen.

She fell back on her seat.
