The next morning arrived quietly, but Cassie felt no peace in her heart. She had barely slept during the night. Every time she closed her eyes, she remembered the shocking announcement at the banquet. Selene Hughes is the future wife of Kaden. The words kept repeating in her mind like a painful echo. Cassie sat by the small window in her room, staring outside at the rising sun. Normally, mornings made her feel hopeful. But today, her chest felt heavy. To make matters worst,Kaden have not been picking her calls since last night. A gentle knock sounded on the door. “Cassie, sweetheart,” her mother Eliora called softly. “Kaden is here.” Cassie’s heart skipped. Kaden was here. Quickly, she wiped the tears from her face and stood up. She didn’t want him to see how broken she felt. When she stepped into the small living room, Kaden immediately walked toward her hugging her tightly. “Hey, Love he said softly. Cassie forced a small smile. Good morning. She said releasing herself from his embrace. But Kaden noticed the sadness in her eyes. “Did you sleep at all?” he asked gently. Cassie shook her head. “Kaden… I called you severally since last night but you didn’t pick… I’m scared. she admitted quietly. He frowned. Scared of what? Cassie looked down at her hands. “All my confidence disappeared after what happened at the banquet last night,” she said painfully. “I just feel like… we don’t have a chance.” Kaden immediately stepped closer and held both her hands tightly. Hey, he said firmly. “Don’t say that.” Cassie looked up at him. “My love is enough for us to overcome everything,” Kaden continued. “I won’t let anyone separate us. Not even my parents.” Cassie wanted to believe him. She really did. “But what about Selene? she asked slowly. Kaden sighed. “What about her? How did she feel about the announcement? she asked I don’t know babe. All i know is that Selene can’t accept such thing. Kaden said. Cassie hesitated before speaking again. “How do you know she won’t accept it?” she said. “You’re every woman’s dream, Kaden. Handsome, rich, successful… I’m already lucky that I have you. No I’m the lucky one here Kaden said pinching her cheeks She swallowed nervously. What if Selene likes you too? Kaden shook his head quickly. “No, Cass, he said gently. “You should know Selene better than anyone. She’s your best friend. He smiled faintly. She’s not interested in me like that. Cassie looked uncertain. The real problem we should focus on is my parents, Kaden continued. Selene isn’t the problem. He squeezed her hands again. I wanna take you to meet them today so When we get to the mansion, just be yourself. My dad likes you. I’m sure it will make things easier. I don’t wanna go she said No babe we have to, it will show how serious i am Kaden said convincing her. Cassie took a deep breath. A few minutes later, they were sitting in the back seat of Kaden’s car as the driver drove toward the Williams mansion. Cassie stared outside the window silently. The houses passed by one after another, but she barely noticed them. Her heart was beating so loudly she could almost hear it. Finally, the large iron gates of the Williams mansion appeared in front of them. The guards quickly opened the gates as the car entered. Cassie’s stomach tightened. The mansion looked even more intimidating in the daylight. Tall white pillars stood proudly at the entrance. The garden was perfectly trimmed, and fountains sparkled under the sunlight. Everything about the place screamed wealth and power. The car stopped in front of the entrance. A guard opened the door respectfully. “Welcome home, Master Kaden,” the maids greeted politely. Kaden nodded slightly. Cassie stepped out of the car slowly. She suddenly felt extremely small standing in front of such a grand building even tho it’s not her first time here. Kaden noticed her nervousness and immediately held her hand. Relax, baby, he whispered. But Cassie could still feel the anxiety growing inside her chest. They walked into the living room together. The room was huge, decorated with expensive furniture and paintings on the walls. Emily Williams and Jordan Williams were already sitting there. “Good morning, Mom. Good morning, Dad,” Kaden greeted. Emily smiled warmly and stood up. “Good morning, my handsome son,” she said lovingly before kissing his cheek. But the moment Kaden moved slightly aside and Cassie came into view… Emily’s smile instantly disappeared. The room became very quiet. “Mom… Dad… I want to tell you something. “You’re the girlfriend of my son,” Jordan Williams said calmly, cutting him off. Cassie swallowed nervously. Yes… sir, she answered calmly. From the corner of the room, Gabrielle laughed mockingly. Cassie turned and saw her sitting elegantly on the couch. Kaden immediately shot Gabrielle an angry glare, and she quickly stopped laughing. Emily slowly stood up. Her eyes looked cold as she stared at Cassie. “I knew something like this would happen,” she said bitterly. Cassie felt her heart beating faster. “You and your poor mother must have had a hidden plan since the day she started working in this house,” Emily continued harshly. Cassie’s face fell. “No, ma’am Emily raised her hand, stopping her. “Listen carefully, young lady,” she said coldly. “There is no place for you in my son’s life. Cassie felt like someone had stabbed her heart. “Selene Hughes is the girl who will marry Kaden,” Emily continued. Her voice became even colder. “If you truly love my son like you claim, then you should step aside.” Cassie’s hands began to tremble. “Otherwise… I will make this earth a living hell for you.And tell your wretched mother she lost her job here already. Cassie froze. Her mother’s job meant everything to their family. But despite the fear in her heart, Cassie lifted her head stubbornly. “I’m sorry, ma’am,” she said, her voice shaking but determined. “But I love Kaden. I can’t leave him.” Gabrielle suddenly stood up. “Oh wow,” she said sarcastically. “Now she’s even talking back.” She looked at her parents. “Mom, Dad, this girl clearly has no respect for you.” Cassie turned toward Gabrielle with angry eyes. Kaden’s patience finally snapped. “Gabrielle, get out of here right now!” he shouted. Gabrielle rolled her eyes but walked away angrily. Jordan Williams sighed deeply. “Cassie Campbell,” he said calmly. Cassie looked at him. “Name anything you want,” he continued. “Money, a house, a business. I will give it to you.” Cassie stared at him in disbelief. “But Kaden and Selene have been betrothed since they were born,” he said. You can’t decide who i will marry for me father Kaden said angrily He ignored him and face Cassie again. “I like you, but you are not the right woman for my son.Find someone else. With that, he walked out of the room. Cassie felt like the ground beneath her feet was collapsing. Emily stepped forward slowly. Her eyes were filled with hatred. “And tell your useless mother,” she said coldly, that I never want to see her in this mansion again. Tears filled Cassie’s eyes immediately. “My mother is not useless!! she shouted back at her. Kaden quickly held her hand. “It’s okay, Cassie,” he said softly holding her hand. “Let go of me’ she shrugged herself off Kaden and walked out of the mansion angrily.
