Chapter 13 What???? The word echoed through the room as shock spread across every face except Selene and Gabrielle. What do you mean she is pregnant, Kaden asked, shooting to his feet, his voice sharp with disbelief. Gabrielle folded her arms, a teasing smile playing on her lips. Brother, do not act like you do not know what you did. She is pregnant for you, she said, her eyes filled with mockery. Emily hurried to Selene’s side, gently holding her hands as worry clouded her face. What exactly happened? How did Kaden impregnate you? she asked, her voice urgent. Just weeks ago, he was here sulking over his cheating girlfriend, and now this? Mr Williams turned to his son, his expression stern. Kaden, explain yourself. Kaden ran a hand through his hair, clearly frustrated. Mum, it was a mistake. I already apologized to her. So what is all this about pregnancy now, he said tiredly. Emily’s expression hardened immediately. What do you mean it was a mistake? When you were with her, it was not a mistake, but now you want to deny your child? Your first child? Her voice rose with anger. Selene stepped forward, her face soft, her lips forming a slight pout. Please, mum, it is not Kaden’s fault. It is mine. I should have prevented this, she said quietly. Emily shook her head. Do not defend him. Since both of you are responsible, he will take responsibility for this pregnancy. Kaden let out a frustrated sigh. Mum, I am too young to be a father. I am just twenty one, he complained bitterly. Emily gave him a sharp look. But you are not too young to sleep with a woman. Silence followed her words. She turned to her husband without hesitation. Jordan, call Paine and let him know his daughter is pregnant for our son. He should start preparing for the wedding. Without waiting for a response, she took Selene’s hand and began leading her upstairs. A small smile crept onto Selene’s face. Mr Williams nodded, already reaching for his phone. You can trust me on that, he said with a pleased expression. Gabrielle clapped her hands excitedly. Yes, it is finally happening, she said, jumping with joy. Kaden shot her a cold glare before sinking back into the sofa, his chest tight with frustration. --- Outskirts of the city Three hours later Cassandra’s eyes fluttered open. For a moment, everything was blurry. The ceiling above her felt unfamiliar, yet strangely known. Her gaze moved slowly around the room. Where am I, she whispered. Then she noticed the drips. The machines. The tubes connected to her body. And suddenly— Everything came rushing back. Her eyes widened in horror. No! A scream tore from her throat as she sat up abruptly. Mama, Papa, she cried out, her voice breaking. In panic, she yanked the drips from her hand. Blood spilled immediately, staining the sheets. Ignoring the pain, she tried to stand, but her weak body gave out, and she collapsed onto the floor. Tears streamed down her face as she screamed uncontrollably. Mama, Papa! Her cries filled the room. Within seconds, the door burst open. Alice and George rushed in, alarmed. They quickly moved to her side, trying to hold her still. Calm down, please calm down, George said, gripping her shoulders. Where are my parents, she cried, her voice shaking violently. Tell me they made it. Tell me they are alive. She began hitting her head against the wall in desperation. They must be alive. They have to be alive. She continued slamming her head. Stop it. Alice said. I said stop it, Alice shouted firmly. Cassandra stopped, breathing hard. Slowly, she lifted her head and looked at the woman standing before her. Alice’s expression was stern, her eyes unwavering. I did not save you so you could die here, I saved you so you can survive and take revenge on the people who did this to you she said sharply. Your parents did not survive the incident she finally broke the news to her. The words hit like a storm. Cassandra’s tears fell harder. But you must survive, Alice continued, her voice steady but intense. You must live to take justice on the people who killed your parents. Silence followed. Cassandra stared at her, her heart breaking all over again. Who are you, she asked weakly. And how did you save me? George stepped forward, his tone calm. My mother and I live here at the outskirts of this city… we’re both medical doctors. We take care of the people in this village. One night we were both going home when we saw some men by the sea. They were cutting something and throwing it into the water. We got closer and realized they were cutting people. Cassandra’s body trembled. We created a distraction so they would leave. He paused and looked at her face.when they left, we moved closer and saw the remains of your parent, you were still whole and we discovered you weren’t dead so we brought you here, he finished. Cassandra broke down completely, her cries echoing through the room. Her tears soaked her clothes as the weight of everything crushed her. I caused it.. i caused their death, I should have listened when they told me to give up on Kaden she said crying even more harder. Alice and George said nothing. They simply let her cry. Minutes passed. Finally, Cassandra wiped her tears slowly and looked up at them. How long have I been here, she asked again. A month and a few days, Alice replied. Cassandra nodded faintly, trying to steady herself. She wiped her face again, though her eyes remained red. Then she spoke. Please, take me to Kaden. He needs to know that I am alive. Alice and George exchanged stunned looks. What????
