Chapter 10

Two days later The hospital room was filled with quiet tension. Family and friends stood around the bed, their faces heavy with worry. Mr. and Mrs. Williams were there, along with Gabrielle, Selene and Kaden’s long-time best friend Adrian. Adrian had been out of the country when Kaden started dating Cassie. He had only returned yesterday, and the first thing he heard was the shocking news that Kaden had been found lying unconscious on the street and rushed to the hospital. The sight before him now was unsettling. Kaden lay motionless on the hospital bed, his eyes closed. Several drips were attached to his body, slowly pumping fluids into his veins. The steady beeping of the machines filled the quiet room. He looked pale and broken. “I pray nothing happens to my brother,” Gabrielle said angrily, her voice trembling with rage. “If not, I will find that girl and make sure i treat her f**k up wherever the hell she is. Emily stood beside the bed, tears streaming down her face. Adrian and Selena stood close to her, trying to calm her down. “And to think I had just started liking her,” Emily cried again, wiping her tears helplessly. “You all can’t judge based on what you saw, I still believe Cassie can’t do this…it’s not possible Selena said carefully, trying to sound reasonable. Gabrielle turned sharply toward her. “What the f**k do you mean, Selene?” she snapped. “Didn’t you see the paper too? It was her f*****g handwriting!” She fooled my brother. The room fell silent again. Adrian crossed his arms and stared at Kaden thoughtfully. “I’m sorry this had to happen,” he said slowly. “But Kaden is not like this. He’s not the type that falls in love deeply. So what exactly happened?” Selene sighed softly. “He loved Cassie too much,” she said quietly. “They really did love each other… or at least that’s what it looked like. But I didn’t know Cassie had other plans. She looked too innocent for something like that. Yeah that’s why i don’t like her for a reason.. she pretends too much ..Gabrielle said still fuming. Let’s just pray Kaden get himself back because this is very bad. Adrian said looking at the helpless state of Kaden on the bed. Cassandra Campbell wherever you are, you will regret ever doing this to my son. Mr Williams said gritting his teeth and walking out of the room immediately. The words hung heavily in the air. Days later, Kaden was finally discharged from the hospital. He look so well now just that he still look a little hopeless. His parents brought him home, but ever since he returned, something about him had changed. He barely spoke. It was like something inside him had died. “I warned you, Kaden. I warned you,” Emily said as she sat beside him in the living room. Her voice was softer now, almost pitying. “Poor people will never change. I had the same experience with your dad when a poor lady once tried taking him from me. They are all losers. They are only after our money… you can never satisfy them.. she continues Kaden sat silently, staring blankly ahead. Not a word came from his mouth. Gabrielle leaned against the wall with folded arms. “Brother, I just wish you can learn your lesson from this,” she said. “And stay away from poor ladies. We didn’t like that girl from the beginning. You should know that was a problem.” Kaden slowly turned his head, clearly about to glare at her when the sound of his phone notification broke the silence. Everyone turned their attention toward him. Kaden slowly pulled out his phone and looked at the screen,a message from Cassie. His chest tightened painfully. Slowly, he opened the message and a picture appeared on the screen.Cassie, She was standing on a beach, wearing a yellow bikini, the sun shone brightly behind her, and the waves sparkled in the distance but that wasn’t what shocked him. a man stood behind her, his arms wrapped around her waist, holding her from behind… his hand gripping her boldly as she smiled at the camera. She seemed very happy like nothing had ever happened. Kaden’s grip on the phone tightened instantly. His knuckles turned white. His body began to tremble. Selena noticed immediately. “Kaden?” she said softly before quickly grabbing the phone from his shaking hands. The moment she saw the picture, her eyes widened. She gasped loudly. “Oh my God…” Everyone rushed closer. Selena turned the screen toward them. “What?!” Gabrielle shouted in fury. “The i***t still has the guts to send this?!” Emily’s face darkened with anger. “For my son’s mental health,” she said firmly, her voice filled with authority, “we are sending you to the Philippines to take a vacation from all this.” Then she turned toward Selene “And Selene… you’re going with him.” Selena’s eyes widened in shock. “What?” she gasped.
