The next day, When kaden woke up the first person he called was Cassie but her line wasn’t going through. Maybe she’s still sleeping he said and dropped his phone to go have his bath.. when he finished bathing he tried calling her again. But her number was still not going through. He frowned and tried again. The phone rang once before the automated voice spoke. “The number you are trying to reach is switched off.” Kaden sighed and tried again and again but still the same response. Confused, he threw the phone on the bed and quickly got dressed. He planned to go to Cassie’s house and see what was going on. Just as he was about to leave, his phone rang. He looked at the screen. Mum. He answered immediately. “Hey Mum,” he said. “My darling son, how are you?” Emily’s cheerful voice came through the phone. “And what about my daughter-in-law? Is she in there with you?I want to talk to her.” Kaden smiled slightly. “Oh… she’s still at her parents’ place. I’m actually about to go there now.” “Oh really?” Emily replied excitedly. “Alright then. When you see her, tell her we’ll like both of you to come for dinner this evening.” “Okay Mum,” Kaden replied. “We’ll come.” “Good,” she said happily. “We’ll be expecting you. Have a great day, my son, and extend my greetings to her.” I will. Thanks mum . You’re welcome baby. She said and hung up. Kaden grabbed his car keys and drove to Cassie’s house. Not long, he stopped in front of the wooden gate of the small compound where Cassie lived. But something felt strange. The place was too quiet. Usually, he would hear her father’s cattle making noise or Cassie’s mother moving around the house, feeding the cattles but today nothing was heard not even a sound.Kaden stepped out of the car and walked toward the gate. He knocked. No response. He knocked again. Still nothing. Frowning, he pushed the gate gently. To his surprise, it opened easily. It wasn’t locked. Kaden walked slowly into the compound. “Babe?” he called. No answer. “Cassie!” Still nothing. “Mrs Campbell?” he called again. Silence. He looked around. No Cassie. No parents. Not even the cattle. His heart began beating faster. He walked into the house. The moment he stepped inside the sitting room, something felt wrong. Very wrong. The house looked… empty. He looked around carefully. Many of their belongings were gone. The shelves were half empty. Some furniture had been moved. Confused, he rushed to check the rooms. One after another. The same thing. Things were missing.clothes, boxes, furniture and many other things he noticed were always there. “What’s going on?” he muttered to himself. He quickly brought out his phone and tried calling Cassie again. Switched off. He tried her father’s number. Not reachable. Her mother’s number. Still nothing. Kaden ran his hand through his hair in frustration. “Is this some kind of prank?” he said angrily. Just then, something caught his attention. A small folded paper lying on the table in the living room. His heart skipped a beat. He walked closer. The moment he saw the handwriting, he froze. It was Cassie’s handwriting. His hands trembled as he picked up the note and opened it. He began to read. Hey Kaden. I know you will come looking for me, that’s why I’m writing you this.so by the time you see this, I’m not longer in the country. Well… I did not love you. I was only with you because my parents wanted me to extort money from you. I love someone else and i want to be with him. We’re starting another life somewhere else, so don’t bother trying to find us. I will be a billionaire soon because I already sold the necklace your stupid mother gave me. And the apartment you bought in my name is gone too. Go find your soulmate, rich boy I’m not the one for you.. Yours sincerely, Cassandra. Kaden’s eyes widened in disbelief. The paper slipped from his trembling hands. He slowly dropped to his knees. “No…” he whispered. His chest tightened painfully. “This can’t be real…” Tears filled his eyes. Then suddenly he screamed. “Cassie! Nooooo!” You can’t do this to me. His voice echoed through the empty house. But there was no one there to answer him. he rushed outside and continue shouting Cassie’s name till he collapsed and everything blacked out.
