Chapter 13

617 Words
As I trudged back to the dorm, the weight of the day's events bore down on me like a physical force. The girl's words still stung, and I couldn't shake the feeling that I was being pulled towards some unknown fate. The phone vibrated in my pocket, and I pulled it out to see a text message from an unknown number. "Where the hell are you?" My heart skipped a beat as I recognized the number – it was Mr. Evan's. I hesitated for a moment before responding, my fingers trembling as I typed out a reply. "I'm on my way back to the dorm. What's wrong?" The response came almost immediately. "Be ready in 30 minutes. I'll be waiting for you outside your dorm." I felt a shiver run down my spine as I read the message. What did he want from me? Why was he being so demanding? I pushed aside my questions and focused on getting ready. As I stood outside the dorm 30 minutes later, I saw Mr. Evan's figure looming in the darkness. He was dressed in a black coat, his eyes gleaming in the dim light. "Let's go," he said, his voice low and commanding. I followed him to a sleek black car, the engine purring to life as he opened the door for me. We drove through the city, the silence between us thick with unspoken tension. Finally, we arrived at a secluded spot overlooking the city. Mr. Evan turned off the engine, and we sat in silence, the only sound the distant hum of the city. "Why did you bring me here?" I asked, my voice barely above a whisper. Mr. Evan turned to me, his eyes searching mine. For a moment, I thought I saw a glimmer of something – vulnerability, perhaps? – but it was quickly extinguished. "I wanted to show you something," he said, his voice low and husky. "This city can be cruel, but it's also beautiful. Sometimes, you need to step back and see it from a different perspective." I looked out at the city, the lights twinkling like stars. Something about his words resonated with me. Maybe it was the way he spoke, the way he seemed to understand me without knowing me. As we sat there, the silence between us began to feel less oppressive. I glanced at Mr. Evan, and for a moment, our eyes met. I saw something there, something that made my heart skip a beat. "Thank you for bringing me here," I said, my voice barely above a whisper. Mr. Evan's gaze lingered on mine, and for a moment, I thought I saw a flicker of emotion. But then, his mask slipped back into place, and he turned away. We drove back to the dorm in silence, the city lights fading into the distance. As we pulled up outside my dorm, Mr. Evan turned to me, his eyes gleaming in the dim light. "Get some rest," he said, his voice low and gentle. "I'll see you tomorrow." I nodded, feeling a sense of gratitude towards him. Maybe, just maybe, there was more to Mr. Evan than met the eye. Maybe, beneath his ice-cold demeanor, there was a heart beating. As I watched him drive away, I felt a sense of wonder. Who was Mr. Evan, really? And what lay beneath the surface of this enigmatic man? I couldn't shake the feeling that I was drawn to him, despite the danger that seemed to surround him. And as I walked back to my dorm, I couldn't help but wonder what the future held for us.
