I knelt beside Evan, my heart racing with worry. "Evan, wake up!" I pleaded, gently shaking his shoulders. When he didn’t respond, I felt a wave of panic wash over me. I quickly checked his pulse, relief flooding me when I felt the steady beat.
With shaking hands, I managed to call for an ambulance. As I waited, I cradled Evan’s head in my lap, my fingers tracing the contours of his face. I couldn’t believe how vulnerable he looked, so different from the commanding presence he usually exuded.
The minutes ticked by slowly until the ambulance arrived. I followed the paramedics, ensuring Evan was taken care of. At the hospital, I waited anxiously for news, my mind replaying the kiss we shared. It was like my entire world had shifted in that moment.
When the doctor finally emerged, I stood up, my heart pounding. "How is he?" I asked, trying to keep my voice steady.
"He’s stable," the doctor replied. "But we need to run some tests to determine the cause of his collapse."
I nodded, feeling a mix of relief and concern. As I sat beside Evan’s hospital bed, I couldn’t help but think about the kiss, about the way he looked at me. It was as if he saw right through me, to the very core of my being.
Evan stirred, his eyes fluttering open. "Hey," he whispered, his voice weak.
"Hey," I replied, my heart skipping a beat. "How are you feeling?"
"Tired," he said, his eyes drifting closed again.
I took his hand, feeling a spark of electricity. "You scared me," I whispered, my voice barely audible.
Evan’s fingers tightened around mine, a faint smile on his lips. "Sorry," he murmured.
As the days passed, Evan recovered, and I found myself falling deeper in love with him. I couldn’t keep my feelings hidden anymore. One evening, as we sat on the couch, watching the stars, I took a deep breath and turned to him.
"Evan," I said, my voice trembling. "I have to tell you something."
He looked at me, his eyes curious. "What is it?"
My heart pounded in my chest. "I think I might be falling in love with you," I said, the words spilling out of me.
Evan’s expression changed, his eyes turning cold and distant. He pulled his hand away from mine, his voice detached. "Ally, I don’t feel the same way," he said, his words cutting deep into my heart.
I felt like I’d been punched in the gut. "What do you mean?" I asked, trying to keep my voice steady.
"I mean, I care about you, but I don’t love you," Evan replied, his voice devoid of emotion. "Let’s just focus on your studies and not complicate things."
I felt a lump form in my throat as I looked at him. I couldn’t believe he was rejecting me like this. "Okay," I said, trying to sound calm, but inside, I was dying.
Evan nodded, his expression unreadable. "Good," he said, standing up. "I think I’ll take my leave now."
I watched him walk away, feeling like I’d been left in the dark, unsure of what to do next. The rejection stung, and I couldn’t help but wonder if I’d misread everything between us.
In the dark hall way of the dorms a black figure let out a scuff and walked away as Evan approached seemingly watching them all these while .
