CHAPTER EIGHT

Ryan Pov “We have instructed the soldiers to deliver the goods to the attacked Nightshade Pack. There have also been reports from them about the goods and showing off their appreciation.” Arnon reported. The council was filled up by the council members for the meeting and while Arnon made this report, I could sense a lot of them had their opinions with them. “Alpha, Nightshade Pack has been without a leader for the past three full moons. We either merge the pack with ours or we find a leader that the people over there will accept” One of the older council members, Joefrey Spoke. “I agree Alpha, we cannot let these people go on without a leader. Everybody will do the things that they think fits the pack and they might crumble” Max, the youngest council member added. “Send words to Nightshade and inform them that the Alpha will come down to the pack to discuss the issue of leadership” I informed Arnon, who jots down and takes note. “Any more issues?” I asked, looking around the table. None of the council members seemed like they were going to talk. The door suddenly opens and Darius storms into the chamber. “You are late for the meeting” I pointed out to him as he walked towards his seat but did not sit down. “How about you tell these honorable people that you are obsessed with me and do not want to leave me alone?” He said. “What are you even talking about?” I asked, trying to make sense of his words. “Your Alpha has refused to leave my mate alone. My mate no longer thinks of me because of Ryan.” I rose to my feet as he spoke. The council members were mumbling amongst themselves. “This is not the place to discuss this” I warned, eyeing him up sternly. “No, this is actually the right place to discuss it” He replied and stepped forward. “Ever since the coronation, my mate is supposed to be at my side but she has been lied to by the Alpha that no mate bond exists. That is a condemnable act!” He spat harshly. “He is lying.” I replied. “Everyone knows that Jessica doesn’t like you. Even when you discovered the mate bond, you hated it and even wanted nothing to do with her.” I walked down from the throne forward to meet him. “The only reason you became interested in her eventually is because you did not want her to be with me” I said, not taking my eyes away from him. “Is that what you think of me?” He asked, shaking his head as though he was embarrassed. “That is not all. We both know how you have been jealous of me even before I became Alpha. You are only doing this for the long hate you have towards me.” I added. “Alpha, you need to calm down” Arnon said softly and I turned to look at the council members. “You are right Arnon. I need to calm down and not listen to him” I replied and turned around walking towards the throne. “One on One” He said. I paused and turned around to meet him. “You and me. Let's battle it out once and for all. Wolf for Wolf” He said with grit and determination in his voice. “You are just being ridiculous” I said and waved my hand dismissively at him. “I challenge you Ryan Deenwood to a duel” My eyes widened as he had used my first name. The only time anyone is allowed to use the Alpha’s name is when they are challenging the throne. “So this is what it is huh?” I asked with a chuckle. My head was shaking in disappointment. “I should have known where all this hate was directed. You have always wanted my position” “Alpha,” I turned around to face Arnon. He had a look of caution on his face as he spoke. “The customs of the pack are simple. The Alpha cannot deny a challenge” He informed me. “I am the Alpha and I am not going to stress my wolf and fight him” I pointed at Darius as I spoke to Arnon. “The fight has to go on Alpha” Joefry mentioned and the rest of the council members all nod their heads. I looked towards the direction of Darius. He had a knowing smile on his face. There was no way I was going to fight him. I don’t have a wolf to begin.. If they find out about my inability to shift, it is going to cause a big problem. “What is the matter with Alpha Ryan? Is the mighty Alpha scared of fighting?” Darius tauntingly asked. “Watch your mouth Darius. Fine, I am going to fight you” I declared. My thoughts were all over the place. One part of me wanted to change my decision, but that would mean that everyone will suspect something is going on. “Very well then, the fight will happen tomorrow” Arnon declared. “No, we cannot fight tomorrow. I need a lot of time to prepare” I argued with him. “The Alpha must be prepared to fight at all times. I guess you have lost your memory about that rule as well” Darius pointed out. My feet were sweaty. I don’t even get to prepare for the fight. Darius must have known and that is why he is doing all of this. “Fine, tomorrow.” I said and walked back to the throne. They all walked out of the council and the door closed behind. “Alpha,” I turned to look at Arnon. “Why are you running away from the fight?” He asked calmly. “Just leave me alone Arnon.” I said and got up to my feet. He enabled this fight and because of that he has no right to talk to me. Walking down the hallway, I made the decision to go down the pack garden. Maybe it is the therapy that I need right now. The moment I pulled the door open, I paused. What was she doing here? I sighed and turned around to leave. “Ryan” She called, causing me to stop on my track.
