Chapter 12 - The Council

Charlottes POV I woke up the next morning in my own bed and for a minute I had forgotten everything that had happened. The familiar surroundings had me closing my eyes shut in blissful ignorance. Of course until I heard a soft snore coming from the side of the bed. Peering over I saw Xavier laying face up sleeping on the floor with a pillow and his hoodie opened up like a blanket. I took a second to stare in awe and the magnificent man. His tanned skin seemed to glow in the early morning light accenting his chiseled jaw and high cheekbones.  Calypso was whimpering urging me to reach out and touch our mate. I reached forward with my arm to softly some hair that had laid flat on his forehead. The small gesture awoke him and I pulled my hand back quickly think he might not have noticed me.  "You don't need to be afraid of me little one," his groggy morning voice was deep and sensual, "All you need to do is ask if you need anything." A charming smile spread across his face as he rolled over to face me. I watched him feeling unsure as he seemed to study my own face.  "Why are you sleeping here?" I was pretty sure i already knew the answer because Calypso was internally rolling her eyes at my dumb question but I wanted to know from him.  "Well, little one, my wolf became attached to you immediately and it helps keep him calm when I am near you. I can think clearer and to be honest I just feel more content and happy." As he finished he sat up and rubbed the back of his neck staring down. I could see a faint blush on his cheeks but I felt like I could already tell if he was being truthful or not.  "It's kind of like when you lost control if your wolf. She was aggressive and angry, forcing a shift like that was very dangerous. Especially because she would have already know how stressed your body was but, that being said she made one hell of a first impression." He chuckled again looking at me with admiration. "I didn't tell you this but even Carson is a little jealous of your wolf, she is bigger and stronger then he is."  I felt embarrassed that I had made someone feel that way. "I didn't mean to make him feel that way! I didn't even have an idea of what she looked like. She just told me a little about herself and some history." He looked at me questioningly, "What do you mean history? Our wolves are born with us little one, we share our history."  "Umm.. no..." I sat up and patted the bed in front me while crossing my legs under the blanket for him. Once he sat there ready to listen I started. "My wolf said that they live many lives. Some wolves are older then others and some are considered young. But when they die they are reborn into another to live again. Usually the Moon Goddess lets them live without any memories of their past but this time she granted my wolf her memories. It is to give me the best chance at survival."  He held eye contact the whole time listening intently. "Well, I have always believed that the goddess has our best interest at hand and does what she does to teach us lessons to help us succeed. She must think your as special as I think you are if she is doing that." Of course he ended his statement with a flirty wink making me blush.  Calypso spoke up internally, "Charlotte sweetie, you need to tell him my name. There is something else both of you need to know as well. His wolf has been my mate since the day I was first created. His wolf was the very first wolf created by the Moon Goddess. She created me shortly after realizing that we flourished with our mates by our sides." He was quiet watching me with a soft smile. "Are you learning to speak with your wolf? Your eyes seem to glow even brighter when you speak with her."  I smiled and nodded. I loved how observant and considerate he was. I spent the next couple minutes filling him in on my wolfs name, her history and eventually the history of his own wolf. As i finished he began pacing my room trying to absorb the information.  "This is not good Charlotte. We can not tell anyone about this. Who else knows who your wolf is?"  "Emma and Luke know, i don't know if she would have said anything to Carson or not." I was starting to get concerned watching him grow stressed. "Why can't anyone know?" "It's the Prophecy. The very reason I was hired to find you. The council doesn't want anything or anyone to be more powerful then they are. It's how they maintain control and obedience. They like packs to fear them and their judgement. It's keeps everyone in line." His eyes clouded over and it looked like he was mindlinking someone.  "s**t. Ok. We will figure this out. Carson and Emma are coming here to make a plan. I know I can trust Carson with my life and you clearly trust Emma with yours so i trust your judgement and we will bring them in to help us but this doesn't go any further then this room. The Council can't know about either of our wolves and they place in this. They will start to piece it together." The look on this face told me that he was begging me to agree with him. I knew that the mate bond was sacred to him and his beliefs. He wouldn't do anything to hurt me so i nodded and he let out the breath he had been holding.  In Emma's true fashion she came barreling through the door talking Carson's ear off about the training regime she had done over the years. He was following close behind not wanting to miss a word of her chatter. I smiled at them thinking about how happy i was for her that she found someone like him. He clearly adores her because everyone else would have tuned her out by now but he was hanging on every word like his life depended on it.  Carson politely cleared his throat to get Emma's attention and then nodded his head in Xavier's direction to signal her to listen. She smiled and moved back beside him to hold his hand while Xavier asked them to close the door and filled them in.  "Dude, this is big." It was now Carson's turn to exhale tension. "Your wolves are literally the mother and father of all wolves. They are royalty, and for what ever reason they have been reincarnated into you two. The Goddess must have planned this out thousands of years ago." I think for the first time ever in existence Emma was quiet. She just stood there absorbing the information shared.  An uncomfortable silence fell over us as we all just waited for someone else to speak. Xavier's phone broke the silence and he reached in his pocket and answered quickly. "Hello." "Well why are they here?"  "s**t, take them on the long road around the property. Remember not a word about our guest." "Thank you Jameson, I trust you understand the importance of this." "Ill see you in ten then. Bye" Hanging up he looked up at Emma and then over at me. "The Councilman decided to stop in even though I told them not to. Emma you need to hide Charlotte somewhere and then join Carson. The Councilman will smell a female scent when he walks in so we need you here. He doesn't know who you are. You two need to come up with a story of how you meant in case he questions you. I need to shower so he doesn't smell you on me."  His plan was quick and precise with no room for failure, or so we all hoped. Carson and Emma left to go figure out there end and Xavier started undressing to jump in my walk in shower. As he walked away i watched the muscles rippling in his back. It did something to my core making butterflies start in my stomach. he turned around to show off his rock hard abs and a very deep V line. "Little one, as i said before, you only have to ask, but I do need you to get dressed and be ready. We don't have time for this kind of distraction." "Oh.. umm.. sorry." I apologized and quickly ran to the closet to try and conceal my blush from him. I could hear him laughing at me in the bathroom. I pulled on a clean pair of black tights and camo t-shirt. I don't know why but my brain instantly jumped towards camo when I was trying to hide. I was still silently cursing myself for staring at him as I ran to the vanity to brush my hair back into a bun. The shower stopped running and he soon opened the bathroom door to reveal him standing there with just a towel hanging low on his hips.  "Sorry Charlotte my bag with my clothes is in the corner by the window would you mind grabbing them?" I was grateful for the task and grabbed it noticing through the shear curtains a black Escalade pull through the trees.  "They are here Xavier." My hands began to shake and my legs felt weak. This was to much, I didn't know how to hide from a creature with advanced hearing, and smell.  "Hey, come here." I felt Xavier's hands on my shoulders gently turning me towards him. He lifted my chin up with his hand so he could look into my eyes. Those sparks lit up where he was touching and i reveled in the sensation. "I won't let anything happen to you. You are mine to protect and love and I will show you that." With that he gently lowered his lips to mine in a soft reassuring kiss. He pulled away and grabbed the bag from my hand to change.  Emma came running through the door with some old clothes that my mom always wore while gardening. They were now ratty rags. I looked up at her as her other hand revealed a bottle of perfume. "Your not going to like this but the best way to hide her is in plain sight. We are going to dress her like an Omega wolf. Like one of the house cleaners. I will spray her with perfume so it overwhelms her natural scent. Carson says this Councilman is an ass that treats his Omegas like s**t so this will seem normal and he shouldn't think twice about it." "Dammit, well we are out of time so hurry up and put her in the kitchen close to the back door incase he figures it out and she needs to run. Make her hair messy and unkept. She has to look like we don't take care of her." His frustration was clear in his sharp tone.  Emma and I rushed down the stairs to do as he instructed. She ran towards the sink and grabbed the cleaning bucket my mom had to organize her cleaners and threw it at me with a couple of rags also stored under the sink. She ran over and gave me a quick pep talk. "Ok, this will work, just keep your head down, do not speak even if someone speaks to you and for goddess sake, keep your wolf in check." with that she covered me in perfume and hid the bottle under the cleaners running to the front to meet Carson just as he was opening the door to greet the Councilman.  I dropped to the floor and began spraying whatever smelt the strongest to help the perfume. I sent silent prayers and concentrated on keeping my face hidden with my back turned towards the foyer. Only an i***t wouldn't see through our plan so I was hoping that was the case.
