Chapter 29 — What Her Father Did
Amelia couldn't take her eyes off the envelope.
“What did my father do?”
Alexander remained silent.
Grace looked uncomfortable.
Daniel finally spoke.
“Maybe you should read what's inside.”
Amelia opened the envelope.
There was a single photograph.
It showed her father standing outside a courthouse beside Alexander's father.
On the back were three words:
The first agreement.
Amelia looked confused.
“What agreement?”
Grace sighed.
“Your father and Alexander's father made a business agreement twenty years ago.”
Alexander frowned.
“What kind of agreement?”
Grace looked at him.
“One that involved both of your families.”
Amelia turned the photograph over again.
There was a date written underneath the message.
She recognized it immediately.
