“Assessment Betas,” I said as Allen and Derek filed into the room.
We were just finishing getting dressed with Lucian in Derek’s room. He looked like the perfect groom.
Unfortunately we couldn’t do much celebrating as we were all concerned about the witch situation. It was a little over an hour until the wedding so my Betas told us their findings as they got dressed.
“We got nothing on the phone,” said Derek as he gave my phone back to me. “They don’t know if it was sent in the pack or out because it bounced off a pretty big satellite. They couldn’t pinpoint the location cause it’s what I suspected, a burner phone. We couldn’t even get the number. Probably disconnected right after use.”
“Either they’re a good hacker playing a prank or setting a trap or just really nervous that they might get killed,” said Aaron.
“If they’re nervous they would be killed, why even try to meet you in person?” asked Lucian. “It would be better to send you the locations on the phone and burn the phone and never talk about it to anyone.”
“Maybe they need leverage,” said Allen. “Maybe they’re being controlled by the same people as Taliana is and they need protection.”
“Or maybe it is Taliana,” said Aaron.
We all pondered on that for a moment while we did our ties up.
“I still think it’s a trap,” said Lucian, checking the time on his phone.
“We need facts, Gamma,” I said. “It could be anything. Beta, the witch.”
“Not much,” said Allen. “Location’s about three hours away near Wolf Gang pack. She knows the name of the coven leader. She’s respected in the community and a supposed good witch. Been witch of the coven for about 70 years. She wouldn’t tell me more, said she wanted to talk to you. You were right, she’s a little skittish since she didn’t know me.”
“Right, I’ll have to talk to her tomorrow, early. I wanna know everything she knows. Betas, you’ll come with me.”
They both nodded. Lucian looked at his phone again. It was time to get to the tent.
I kept looking out of the tent for a glimpse of my love. Was he ok? Did they make it alright? After I told my brothers this morning about the text I received they were as angry as I was but they also told me that Parker was feeling better so we shouldn’t worry.
I saw Parker peeking out of the tent. They must’ve come in the back way so no one would see Mandy’s dress. Gods he was gorgeous.
He was wearing the same deep powder blue suit we were wearing, darker than the one he’d worn last night. But he was like a model in it. I wanted to grab him but I had to remember we were at a wedding.
We tried not to talk about the text while we were in the tent. Lucian was sitting down with his hands folded, bouncing his knee up and down. I patted him on the back hard to snap him out of it.
“You ready? I asked.
“As I’ll ever be,” he said.
Aaron sat beside him. “Happy?” he asked.
Lucian finally smiled. “You have no idea.”
The wedding went smoothly. I loved Mandy’s dress. Charlotte and Parker raved about that. I hated doing it but while Lucian and Mandy were away from the head table I was texting with Allen and Derek about any other ideas they had on the witch situation. Nothing new came to mind.
I hated dancing in front of everyone but Aaron was having a field day with Parker. Luckily it didn’t look like Parker ate too much or too little so he was fine.
He did look a little tired though. He really was working too much. I was gonna have a talk with Charlotte about that. It did make me happy to dance with Parker again. It was the only thing that took my mind off that text.
Mandy and Lucian left the party about midnight on their way to their honeymoon. I hoped it would go over well when he told her they’d be coming back in three days instead of five.
Parker looked tired too so I picked him up and we all headed upstairs. By the time we were in our room, he was fast asleep.
“He looks a little pale, doesn’t he?” asked Andrew when I laid Parker in bed.
“A little,” I said, now concerned.
“I watched him, and he did eat,” said Aaron. “He’s just tired.”
“He’s already sweating,” I said.
Andrew felt his forehead. “No temperature.”
“Guys, we’ve been dancing for two hours, of course he’s sweating,” sighed Aaron. “Let’s get to bed.”
We took off his suit and all he did was snuggle up in our pillows until we all got settled.
The next morning I had to leave my love in bed. I wanted to get an early start. I kissed him on his lips and mindlinked my brothers though they were pretty out of it still.
I met up with Allen and Derek downstairs for a bite to eat before heading over to Oreilia's. I hated to barge in but we had to get this over with. I was about to knock on the door when my love mindlinked me.
Axel, can you meet us at the hospital? I’m going for a little check up. – Parker
WHAT? What’s happened? You ok? – me
I’m fine, it’s just –
Aaron, what the f**k? – me
Just a check up, remain calm. We’re on our way. – Aaron
Tell me the f*****g truth Aaron. Andrew! – me
We think he was poisoned. Get your ass to the hospital.- Andrew
How could they be so f*****g calm? Poisoned? I don’t know what I said to Allen and Derek. Maybe it was hospital, maybe it was poisoned but I had no time to think… I shot out of there in wolf form. I think my Betas were behind me.
We got to the hospital in a couple of minutes. I think Derek went inside to get us some clothes. I couldn’t think but suddenly I had boxers on. I mindlinked my father to let him know we were at the hospital.
“Not here yet,” said Allen coming from inside.
“Wait inside,” I growled.
Both of them waited inside while I paced back and forth. Then I saw my brothers pull up.
“Is he ok?” I ran to the car to help Parker out. “What happened?” I looked him over then grabbed his hand as gently as I could to get him inside.
“It was just like yesterday,” said Aaron. “Pale, sweating, throwing up. I watched what he ate and ate the same things. Drank the same drinks. But I think someone slipped something in his drink. He wouldn’t be sick two days in a row. Or get food poisoning two days in a row. Unless it was on purpose.”
My anger was at an all time high. I could feel the steam coming off Andrew as well. Aaron was doing his best to stay cool for Parker’s sake.
“Emergency team now,” growled Andrew while Aaron explained all of this. “Your Luna Alpha is sick!”
Nurses began scrambling and getting him a wheelchair to sit in. It wasn’t fast enough. How could this happen? Aaron had watched him all night and so had Andrew and I.
Maybe the text was a way to preoccupy us and take our attention away from watching him. How could I have been so stupid? I thought about calling Lucian back but we didn’t even know the truth yet.
Parker was starting to get anxious now that he was lying in a hospital bed again. We could all hear his thoughts.
Maybe…maybe I had been poisoned. But who would have it out for me? People who wanted the Alphas? Or people who didn’t want me to be Luna? The same people who had tried to shoot me with wolfsbane.
“I thought about that too,” said Aaron as he finished helping Parker into bed. “Maybe someone slipped liquid wolfsbane into your drink.”
Andrew rammed his fist go into the wall. He was breathing heavy and I could hear the terrible thoughts he had about ripping the whole pack apart through Parker.
“I’ll rip them apart piece by piece,” he growled. “No prayer to the moon Goddess will save them." I was feeding off his anger. The person who did this had few days left to live.
“When we’re done with them, the pieces of them will be thrown in the woods for the animals to feast on,” I said.
Parker sighed, concerned with our anger. “I haven’t even been seen yet guys, I’m sure it’s just the flu or something,” he said.
Aaron just growled and held his hand. I paced back and forth at the foot of the bed. Andrew leaned on the wall and stared at Parker, with a longing look. He was ready to strike the next person down who harmed him. So was I.
Dr. Iho came in after a few minutes of torturous waiting and we told her all about Parker’s symptoms. She said she would run some blood tests then check the contents of his stomach.
She had to put a tube down his throat which made me sick. Then she said she’d do an ultrasound. She asked us several times to leave the room I think. I wasn’t paying attention. I wouldn’t have left my love’s side anyway.
With her and two other nurses it took about an hour for them to do all the tests. It was awful watching them touch all over my mate. And they were hurting him with all these tests. I probably growled a time or two. Parker didn’t like it but I needed him well.
We kept asking her through the tests what was wrong but she never told us. She said we’d have to wait for the results which would come in about an hour. Another hour of torture.
Dr. Iho came in about an hour after she left.
“Alphas, Luna Alpha,” she said with a smile.
“Well, what is it?” I said, nearly interrupting her.
“Yeah, was he poisoned?” Aaron asked.
Dr. Iho was a little taken aback but she smiled again. “Oh, nothing as serious as that. Well, I guess it is a little serious.”
“What does that mean?” asked Andrew angrily.
“This isn’t a joke Dr. Iho,” I growled.
“Oh, no of course not,” she said a bit more seriously. “Didn’t mean to come off that way.”
“Then what is it, is he sick?” asked Aaron.
“He is in a way, I suppose,” she looked at Parker then smiled. Then she smiled at all of us. “He’s pregnant.”
