My phone rang with an unknown number the next day. I still had to go into the store early the next morning, despite last night’s heavy rain, to fulfil my order.
I picked up the call with the hope that this little business might actually survive.
“Hi! Am I speaking to Briar? The owner?” A woman asked.
“Yes, how can I help you?”
“Oh, that’s great! I hope you don’t mind I stole the black and grey roses from the award ceremony, and I found your card in the bouquet. You ghosted on me, and I needed to find you!”
I ran a hand down my face and moaned. “Oh, I’m sorry. I was on my way to get it, but… never mind. How can I help?”
“I’d love to come over to your store.”
“Sure, can you meet me here in the afternoon?”
“That would be perfect! My boss needs something unique, and I know she’ll adore
