An Uncertain Future
On the Saturday afternoon following the amazing incident with the Overseer, Paige was called from her dorm room and went directly to the matron in charge.
The woman looked up, then clicked off her collar.
“You wanted to see me, ma’am?” Paige spoke first.
“Yes, there’s a detail here for you.”
“For me? I didn’t think I had to clean today.”
“Not for cleaning, something about a physical check-up. Don’t ask, just go. And you’d better take one of the slickers, it’s raining cats and dogs out there.” The brusque woman waved her off and Paige moved on to the dormitory entrance where she grabbed one of the dark green rain slickers from the long line up in the hall.
