“He’s bought me out.”
Sam spoke from behind me as I stood in the kitchen, making breakfast, and I turned at the dismay in his voice. “Can he do that?”
“Yes.” He stood there, mouth agape, staring at some papers in his hand, and then he laughed, loud and boisterous. “Goddamn, it’s a check for my initial investment, interest, and the buyout fee. How the feck did he manage that?”
“Let me see.” I held out my hand, unable to believe Banner would do that out of nowhere. My own eyes popped when he walked over and placed the check in my hand. “Oh, wow, that’s a lot of zeros.”
Yes, I knew Sam was rich, but holy s**t! There wasn’t any way I could spend that money in two lifetimes, let alone one. I handed it back to him. “Did you know he was going to do this?”
