CHAPTER 18 Hours later, a quiet Chief Brady drove them home, furious the suspect had escaped but pleased so much physical evidence had been found. He dropped them off at around seven in the morning. They stumbled in the door, adrenaline gone, and fatigue warring with a goodly bit of fear. The evidence had been collected, but nothing had been cleaned up. Selene stared at the mess of blood and dirty footprints in the hallway and frowned. The master bedroom must be a shambles—broken glass and bullet holes. In her exhausted state, all she could think about was finding a clean bed to crash in. She stumbled on her way to the guest bedroom, Brandon trailing behind her like a sleepwalker. He ran into her back when she pulled up short, dismayed at the sight of a deep puddle of blood on the floor
