CHAPTER 13
After dinner, washing the dishes, and extended conversations, Selene pleaded exhaustion and retired. Brandon intended to follow, but Karen stopped him. He felt no surprise that she and her husband wanted to talk to him alone.
“Well, Brandon,” Karen said, her voice deceptively mild, “we have some questions for you.”
He gave a humorless grimace. “Is this the speech about my intentions?”
“More or less,” she concurred easily. “Because Selene always felt she was terribly different from everyone else, I don't think she was prepared for what a serious relationship might mean, and this one has progressed very rapidly, which is why she panicked so badly. Why are you rushing her?”
