"This is crazy! This whole idea is crazy! That's it this is a dream!" Sophia cried to herself as she sat alone on a bucket in the kitchen. She tried to get into the library but the door wouldn't even budge for her. Abraham was right, she couldn't leave. After giving up, she walked into the kitchen where no one was at. She just wanted to be alone right now as she panicked in her mind.
It didn't take Elijah long to find her but he thought it best to get her some time alone first. He knew that she was going to try to find a place to be alone and this place should be close to the library. His first guest was the kitchen and as he opened the door to the kitchen he saw Sophia there in the corner of the room, sobbing. He frowned, seeing her like this hurt his heart.
"Why is this happening? Why is it to me?" She sobbed into her hands. She was trying to make sense all of this and she couldn't.
He sighed and walked over to her. "Because you are unique," Elijah said, looking down at Sophia.
Sophia looked up at him and stopped crying. "Oh I didn't see you come in." Sophia said as she wiped her nose on her arm. She sat up a little straighter and tried to pull herself together. She felt embarrassed that she was crying like this in front of him.
He just wanted to make her feel better. "Do you want to talk?" he asked and sat down next to her.
"Please." Sophia was looking for someone to help sort out her thoughts and she knew that she could trust Elijah. If Elizabeth trusted him, Sophia could as well.
There was a minute of silence as the two figured out what to say. Both knew what needed to be said but neither of them wanted to be the first to bring it up. Finally, Elijah spoke up, "You want to know how I know lord Nelson doesn't have a brother. It is because Lord Nelson killed his brother, my father. When I said I lived on the cost, I did, with Lord Nelson. My father would not support his brother in an uprising to get the book that your family guards so well. He wanted to change the time for his gain. He thought my father was getting in the way, therefore, he killed him and then took me hoping that I would side with him since my father didn't. Well, I didn't and after a year with him, Abraham found me and saved me from him. He brought me here and Elizabeth's family took me in as a stable boy. I owe him and her family everything."
Sophia listened to his story carefully. She just gained more of loathing for Lord Nelson as she heard his words. Lord Nelson was a monster. "Really so you're a baygonen?" Sophia asked.
He nodded but thought about his secret that he tried so hard to keep from everyone. Abraham told him to keep it secret so he did just that, for years, only practicing his magic by candlelight at night or in the woods. "Yes. But don't tell anyone this, only lord Nelson, Abraham, and now you know that." He said kindly.
"And I thought my life was hard." Sophia mumbled to her self. She had spent so much time complaining about her own life but it was a cake walk compared to what these people had to deal with.
"Everything happens for a reason." He said calmly and shrugged at her. He knew his life was hard, but now that he was living with Elizabeth and her family, his life got easier.
"You don't look anything like him." Sophia said looking him with his brown hair and green eyes.
He smirked as he ran his hands through his wavy hair, "that's good. I don't want anything to do with him."
It was quiet for a few seconds as both of them were lost in thought. Elijah couldn't believe that he just told a girl that he barely knew his deepest secret. He didn't even tell this to her grandmother, and he knew her for years. But for some reason, he trusted Sophia more, he trusted her with his life.
"I know you don't want to listen to Abraham and his command, so I want to know what is your plan? Time is ticking after all." He finally spoke up to her.
She looked at him and sighed. She knew what she needed to do but it was going to be hard. She didn't want to, but Elizabeth needed her sister back. "I'm going to turn myself in." she said bluntly. "I know he doesn't want to kill me so I know I'm safe, even with him."
He shook his head at her. He wasn't the best at making plans but that had to be one of the most idiotic plans he had ever heard. "You can't do that."
She felt anger flare up in her. Did he have a better plan, if so she wanted to hear it. "Then what am I going to do? Hu? Because I'm not just about to let Elizabeth's sister die."
"I have a plan."
"Then, by all means, tell me!" Sophia said, raising her voice.
He raised his eyebrows at her, he needed her to be a little more level-headed if this plan was going to work. He couldn't have her so emotional.
Sophia realized that she overstepped her boundaries and tried to fix it. "Sorry." She said in a quieter tone. When she was under presser she didn't handle things well. That was her downfall and her whole family knew it. Why couldn't she be calm like her parents instead of storming off and yelling at people. She couldn't help it, but she seemed to always make things worse when she was stressed.
"Well, watchentagers can travel to places, fast. They can also send people places just as fast." Elijah explained.
"I'm not about to ask Abraham for help." Sophia said remembering how she left him with Elizabeth. She was afraid that she already burnt a bridge with him.
"I do believe he'll be understanding of this plan. He'll send me and you to get her but the thing is that the castle has an enchantment on it so no one can teleport directly inside. That being said, we will have to get close enough to the castle and break in then we will pull her out and Abraham will teleport us back here." Elijah explained to Sophia. He knew that a lot of things could go wrong in this plan, but he didn't want to scare Sophia with the what if's.
Sophia chewed over his words as she tried to imagine the plan in her mind. She knew that was a better plan than she would ever come up with. "I'm for it!" Sophia said and got up from her bucket. "One thing though. You are telling Abraham about his." And gave a small smile at Elijah. She didn't want to talk to him right now. She was afraid that he would be too mad at her still.
He nodded at her. He could do that, it wouldn't be too hard to talk him into this plan. "Fine, I can do that." He said, sighed and got up with her and together started to walk to the horse stalls where Abraham was.
After Elijah told Abraham the plan Abraham sighed and said, "I think that could work, I'll let you."
"Fantastic!" Elijah said excitedly as if he did not expect Abraham to agree. He was expecting to spend a long time trying to convince Abraham to let them go. That was easier than he was thinking.
"Yes. I do not think I have another choice in the matter. I need to save Elizabeth's sister, it's my job and you know the castle like the back of your hand Elijah. I trust you, both of you." He said and looked at both Sophia and Elijah.
"Great. When do we leave?" Sophia asked. She was scared of Lord Nelson; he intimidated her more than anyone she's ever known. But she knew that she needed to save Elizabeth's sister. She looked over at Elijah and smiled lightly. He returned the smile. She didn't know him long, but she trusted Elijah with her life. With him, she knew everything would be alright.
"Elijah, why don't you get her ready and get something to eat and then you two may leave. I think the sooner we counterattack, the more surprised he will be. He won't be expecting us so soon."
"Yes, sir." Elijah said and gave a small nod to Abraham. "Follow me if you please Sophia." Elijah Turned to Sophia and said as he started to walk to the castle.
Sophia looked over at Elijah. He treated her differently when he was around Abraham, it was like he was hiding something from him. Elijah seemed more guarded when he was around him. After they were out of earshot from Abraham Sophia whispered, "why do you treat me different in front of Abraham."
"I have no idea what you are talking about." Elijah said a little too bluntly. Sophia called him out on something that he did not want to talk about at this moment. That was for another time.
"You have a clear idea of what you are talking about and I want to know." Sophia said fiercely. If she was going on a life or death mission with him she wanted to know just this one more thing.
"Oh my, Sophia! We need to get you ready! Abraham just told me. I can't believe you're doing this for me and the family! I knew I made a good friend when I saw you!" Elizabeth said as she ran up to them. She had this love for Sophia ever since the day she met her but since that day, her love has grown even stronger.
Sophia looked up at Elijah to see that he wasn't even looking at her. A rush of anger came though her, why was he acting like this all of a sudden. one minute he would talk to her like they were best friends, the next minute he wouldn't even give her the time of day. She wanted to know why he couldn't just tell her.
"Come on. We must get ready!" Elizabeth said and grabbed a hold of Sophia's hand and pulled her away from Elijah.
"Ok, let's go." She said and sighed, leaving Elijah alone.
"What do you know about Elijah?" Sophia asked once they were in Elizabeth's room.
"Oh, him? Well, he helps out with Abraham. He is like second in command in running the house cleaners and horses, whatever Abraham wants." Elizabeth said as she dug around her closet to find some clothes for Sophia for the mission tonight.
"Well, do you know anything else about him? Like his past?" Sophia said and sat down on Elizabeth's four-poster bed.
"Well...um... come to think about it, no not really. He is related to Abraham, if I am not mistaken. He has no real family beside him. He lived on the cost with his parents before they died of the plague I think. He's lived with us for, well since I was 6 so he was 10. Why are you interested?" She asked, not really paying attention to the conversation.
"No reason. I just wanted to know." Sophia said looking up at the ceiling. She wondered why Elizabeth didn't even know Elijah's past.
"Ah found it." Elizabeth said and took out Sophia's sweats that she left here the first day she time traveled.
"My pants!" Sophia said and got up from the bed and grabbed them from Elizabeth. She forgot that she missed those pants.
"I thought you might want them back. However sadly, the shirt that you had got eaten by moths."
Sophia smirked. She didn't even like that shirt anyhow, she just wore it because her mom didn't like her to waste clothes. "That's fine. I'll use another top or something."
"You can use one of Elijah's! I'm sure he won't mind!" Elizabeth said and run out of her room.
Since Elizabeth was out of the room Sophia thought that this was, the most opportune time to change so she took off the dress that she was wearing and changed into her sweats. After she did that Elizabeth was still not in the room so Sophia as back down on the bed and started to drift into deep thought.
She wanted to know who Elijah really was. She wanted to understand why he acted the way he did. The more he pushed her away the more Sophia couldn't stop thinking about him and wanting to be with him. He drew her in without even trying. She was frustrated that he seemed to be a man of secrets. It made her wonder that if he lied to Elizabeth, he must have lied to Sophia already. Another thing on her mind was the dreams she kept having. She was worried that those dreams could come true. What if he really did die and what if Lord Nelson kills him off the cliff? All her thoughts started to give her a headache so she quickly forced herself to change topics. "Have you found one yet?" Sophia asked Elizabeth.
"Here is a shirt of Elijah's." Elizabeth said and gave her a button down long sleeve shirt.
"Oh, thanks." Sophia said and took the shirt from Elizabeth. After it was on and buttoned Sophia looked at herself, she was wearing and dressy top and sweats. If her mom saw her like this she would give Sophia a lecture on dressing, that Sophia was sure of. "Don't I look good?" Sophia said and smiled with a little humor in her voice.
"I wouldn't say good but it will do." Elizabeth said surveying the outfit from top to bottom.
"Sarcasm Elizabeth."
"Oh, isn't that like irony?"
"Yes." Sophia said and smiled at her.
