Chapter 16

2014 Words
Elijah, Sarah, and Sophia ran out of the house and stopped in the field. Elijah looked up at the sky and called Abraham's name. He knew that Abraham could hear him, he was just waiting for him to respond. Elijah needed him to take them back fast, he was worried that the longer they waiting the more of a target they were for Lord Nelson. Within a minute a circle was drawn in the dirt around them and in a flash, they were in front of the Elizabeth's castle. Elijah smiled at Sophia, but she quickly looked away from him. She didn't want any contact with him any more. He then looked at Sarah and she smiled so sweetly at him. To Sarah, Elijah was her knight, she loved him. "There they are!" Elizabeth yelled out the front door. Excitement ran through her as she saw all of them in front of her. The mission worked and she finally had her sister back. Abraham, Elizabeth and her parents had been waiting for them patiently. "Oh my! Sarah! I missed you!" Elizabeth was the first one to ran to and hugged Sarah. "That's my boy!" Elizabeth's father said with a huge smile on his face and patted Elijah on the back as he walked out of the house next. "Thanks sir." Elijah said and smiled sheepishly. while everyone was saying hello and giving hugs to Sarah, Sophia slipped out of the scene and sat down on the stair case alone. She thought about Elijah and how he led her on. She should have seen the clues, she should have figured this out a while ago. "I was so stupid!" Sophia said, raising her voice at nothing. Abraham thought it best to not spend much time with the family. He said his congratulations to the kids and decided to leave. He felt embarrassed that this was his job to protect the family and he was doing a pretty terrible job at it. He down the hall and saw Sophia sitting on the stairs. He saw her so upset he thought it best to ask her what was going on. "What is?" Abraham asked as he walked up to her. She looked up at him and frowned. He was not someone she wanted to talk to about this. He wouldn't understand her. "Nothing." Sophia mumbled and put her head in her hands. "There is always something." Abraham said and sat down next to her. "I'm not going to talk about it." Sophia said firmly and looked at Abraham. He took the hint that she didn't want to talk about this subject so he thought it might be best to change the topic. He wanted to build a stronger trust with her and talking to her was a great way to do just that. "Every well, how about the trip. How did that go?" She looked up at him and thought about the events that had just happened. Everything was so fast paced. "It was like Lord Nelson was expecting us. As soon as Elijah went down to the basement he came out of nowhere for me. In addition, while I was running I found Sarah. Come to think about it, finding her was a little too easy. I thought he would make it harder." Sophia explained to him as she thought. He nodded at her. He knew she was right, this was a little too easy, but he didn't want to tell her why he thought it was easy. He thought it was better to keep that secret. "Normally he plants traps for the 'guests' that come, but maybe we came too fast." "The only trap we had was when Lord Nelson trapped us in the room and I stabbed him with a letter opener which made him mad." "Wait now, you stabbed him?" he asked in shock. He had never heard of anyone getting close enough to him to stab him before. "Yes but that didn't do much so while he started to get closer to me, I knocked him out with a candle holder." Sophia said as she thought about that moment. It all happened so fast, now that she was thinking about it, how did she manage to knock him out without no knowledge about fighting. She knew she was tough but she didn't think she was able to single handedly take Lord Nelson. "You knocked him out?" Abraham said with disbelief. Now this was starting to sound completely untrue. "Yeah, I hit him hard." Sophia said coolly even though thoughts were flying through her mind at an extreme speed. She looked down the hall and saw Sarah smiling around her family. Her dad laughed at something and hugged her tightly. Sophia could see that her family adored her so much. "She looks a lot like me. Why is that?" Abraham thought about what Sophia said. He knew that getting Sarah this time would be a little easier, but he didn't think that it would be this easy. He was worried that if the family found out how easy it was, they would start asking questions that he didn't want to answer. "Who?" He asked, not paying attention to what Sophia just asked him. "Sarah, she looks a lot like me." Sophia said again. Sarah looked like her twin. There was only a few things that were different that Sophia could tell one of which was in the eye color. No wonder Elijah liked Sophia so much, she looked just like his fiancé. There was a minute of silence as Abraham debated about how much truth to tell her. Victoria told Abraham that Sophia was Sarah's Doppelganger, but what he didn't want to tell her was about the doppelganger curse. Her grandmother tried to keep Sophia out of this world because of it. She wanted to keep her safe. "She's your doppelganger." Sophia shook her head at him. This was just icing on the cake for today. She was told by many people that doppelgangers didn't exist. Even her grandmother told her that, all her life. "That's not possible." "It's not? Think Sophia, you flew back in time, there is magic all around us, there is a evil warlock, and you're falling in love with the stable boy. If all of that is possible then why isn't a doppelganger?" Sophia was breath taken as she paid attention to his words. Everything he said to her was true. He did have a point. She opened her mouth just about that and then closed it again forgetting what she was going to say to him as Abraham started to talk again. "This doppelganger pair is special. There was been foretelling's about this family doppelgangers. There have been stories about what the doppelgangers are supposed to do, what they are destined to do, some true and some not. Sophia, just be careful not to believe everything you hear." He said and stretched with a yawn. "Well I think you have had enough excitement for one day and I think that the lock had lifted. Ready to go home to your time?" She looked at him and nodded. She was beyond exhausted and she just wanted to go back to her family again. "Yes please." Sophia said and got up from the steps and started walking to the library. "I'll see you later Abraham, and thank you." "You're welcome my dear." He said as they walked into the library. She touched the book with her ring hand and in a blink of an eye she was back home. "My goodness." She breathed and sat down on an old leather chair thinking about what happened during that whole day. "Oh Sophia there you are. Libby called; she wants to talk to you." Lucy said and walked into the room with the phone in her hand. "Ok. Thanks. Hey mum, what time is it?" Lucy looked at the watch on her arm. "It's one in the afternoon." Sophia tried not to show amazement in her eyes and quickly looked down at the ground hide the rest of her emotion. She was back in time the whole day but here, only an hour or two went by. She wanted to know how that happened. This whole idea about time traveling was really confusing to her and she didn't really want to try to figure the details. She was just happy that she could time travel, and for now, that was good enough for her. "I'll call her." She said, still looking down at her feet. "Ok good. Here's the phone." Lucy said as she handed her daughter the phone. She looked at her daughter from head to toe and noticed that she looked different. Something was off about her but she couldn't place it. Just as she was about to say something to her, Eloise walked into the room with a bright smile on her face. "Sophia can you play with me?" Eloise asked Sophia. Sophia frowned. She had no energy to do that today. "How about later. I'm really tired." Sophia said and ruffled her hair. Eloise frowned at her sister. She was mad because Sophia told her that she would play with her today, but yet half the day was gone and she wasn't in the mood. Without another word, Eloise left the room with Lucy. As soon as they left and shut the door behind them, the phone in her hand started to ring. "Hello?" Sophia asked into the phone as she answered it. "Hey, it's Lewis. Can we talk?" Lewis asked on the other line. He was nervous with talking to her over the phone like this, but this was important. He needed to know specific information because he knew that she was time lapsing. "Um, sure. I have time. How did you get my number anyhow?" "You gave it to me at the party, remember?" Sophia suddenly remembered that moment. She didn't want to give out her cell number so she gave the house phone instead. "Oh yeah. So what do you want to talk about?" "Can you come over here?" "To your place?" Sophia asked, a little shocked by his directness. She was a little confused in why he wanted her to come over but she didn't bother to ask. "Yes. I'll text you the address." "Ok. I'll see you later then." Sophia said and hung up and then went to call Libby. "Hey it's me, Sophia." She said once Libby answered the phone. "Hey. So you came back home." Libby said before she had time to stop herself. She knew that Sophia time lapsed, or at least her father said she did. For what ever reason her father seemed very interested in Sophia and Libby wanted to know why. "What?" Sophia asked, confused in what she was talking about. This day had already been so long and she was starting not to follow conversations very well. Libby frowned at the phone as she looked at a family portrait on her wall. If she messed this up, she would get a beating for sure. "Nothing, can we hang out?" "Um, sure." Sophia said as she made her way to her bed room to get ready. "Ok, I'll be waiting at my place." "Wait..." but before she could tell her the she was going to Lewis's place she hung up. Sophia sighed and decided to go to Libby's first. She looked in the mirror and saw that she still have Elijah's shirt on and so she unbuttoned it and tossed it on the bed and put on a T. "I'll burn you later." She said to the shirt and sighed. "Ok bye mum and dad! I'm going to Libby's!" Sophia yelled before she walked out the door. "Have fun. Just be home before dinner! I'm making pasta!" Marco yelled back to her. "Ok will do!" she said and grabbed her keys and a lightweight coat and walked outside into the gray cold england that she has gotten kind of used to and got into her car.
