Chapter 11

2545 Words
That night she had a dreamless sleep for the first time in a week and woke up feeling better than ever. While she got dressed she couldn't help but think back to last night with Abraham. She had a feeling that he was telling the truth, but it seemed so unbelievable. However, it would explain how he could get from time to time or how Sophia could go from time to time. "Man it's good to be alive." Sophia said and smiled at her family as she grabbed something to eat for breakfast before school started. Her brothers both raised an eyebrow at her, questioning if she was in the right mind. They hadn't seen her so happy in months."Are you feeling ok?" Bryce asked her questionably. Sophia looked at him from head to toe. His hair was pushed to the side with some jell to keep it in place, he wore oxfords to match his school uniform that was pressed and clean. She was sure that he had gotten more mature and handsome since being here. "I'm fine. How about you?" She smiled at him sweetly. "I'm..... ok..." He said and gave her a look like, 'you're so weird'. He questioned why she was acting so differently, but he figured it was that boy she was talking to. When her personality changed so suddenly, it was normally a boy involved. Marco straightened out his tie as he walked into the kitchen. He was busy thinking about the upcoming interview to really pay attention to Sophia and the other children in the kitchen. "Do you need a ride?" Marco said as he walked up to the kids. Sophia knew that her father was busy today, she didn't want to bother him. Plus she was starting to really enjoy the public transportation here. Things were slowly starting to look up for Sophia, she could feel it in her bones. Maybe it wasn't that bad here, she thought. "I'll just take the train." Sophia said and grabbed a coat, "I feel like walking, bye!" and walked out of the house into the cold autumn morning then started to the train station. She turned on her mp3 and put the music on shuffle so she had something to do as she walked. It only took a good 5 minutes until Libby caught sight of her new best friend walking down the road ahead of her. She smiled as she saw Sophia walking alone. To her, this was the perfect time to talk to Sophia. She wanted to get to know her better, Sophia's grandmother took Libby under her wing, she wanted to do the same for Sophia. "Hey, Sophia! Wait up!" Libby said running after Sophia. Sophia looked behind her and saw Libby running up to catch her. She stopped so Libby could catch up easier. Sophia was glad that she had a fast friendship developing with Libby, it made moving here a little easier. "Oh hey, Libby." Sophia said and took out one of her earbuds to hear exactly what she was saying to her. "You didn't come over the other day, are you ok?" Libby asked. She knew that Sophia didn't tell her that she was coming over but she wanted to see if Sophia would slip up and tell her why she never showed. She wanted to know if Sophia really did time travel or if it was a fluke feeling Libby had. "Yeah, sorry about that." Sophia smiled sheepishly as she scratched the back of her head. There was no real way to cover why she never came over. She knew that she couldn't tell Libby the truth and that was difficult for her. "I'm free today if you want to do something." She said as she thought about the weekend. She frowned at Libby suddenly. "Wait a minute, I didn't tell you I was coming to your place. How did you find out?" Sophia asked as she thought about it. She never called her about that. She didn't even know where Libby lived. Libby held back a frown. She knew that Sophia time traveled, she felt it in the air over the weekend. Libby wasn't quiet sure if she could trust Sophia just yet, at least that was what her father kept telling her. Libby wanted to trust her and tell her everything she knew about traveling, but her father said that Sophia was planning something dark. "Um...you're mum.... Well anyhow I was thinking about having a party tonight, you know, my dad's out of town kind of party." She said and wiggled her eyebrows at her. "Sounds fun." Sophia said, half paying attention to what Libby was saying. She looked around at the street she was on and realized that she had no idea where she was. She wasn't quiet sure how she got here. "Don't worry I'll invite Lewis." She said and smiled widely at her. However, Libby knew that Lewis would never come. He never came to events like this, let alone anything that she would throw. "Yeah, ok. Sounds great. Do you want me to come over early and help set up?" Sophia asked, had almost forgotten about Lewis, after she hadn't seen him in a week and then with meeting Elijah, Lewis just seemed to float out of her mind like an old memory. "No I got it but thanks." She said and continued talking about what she was planning to do tonight. "Ha, yeah if only the boys would do that. But of course, they wouldn't." Sophia said and laughed as she talked to a group of new friends she had made at school. Libby really took Sophia under her wing and introduced her to some great people the last week or two. She was starting to feel at home now. From around the corner, Lewis came with books in hand. He had been busy catching up on missed school work over the weekend but now he could only think of one thing. He needed to talk to Sophia now, and it was important. "Um... can I talk to you?" Lewis asked as he walked up to Sophia in her group of friends. She looked at him and saw the urgency in his eyes. She was confused about why he was so concerned. "Sure." Sophia said a bit taken back by his bluntness. She didn't think she would see him again let alone him come up to her and talk. She looked at him from head to toe, she hadn't seen him for so long she started to forget what he looked like. He was still as handsome as she last saw him. If possible, he had gotten more handsome. "Alone?" He added as he looked at the people around her. He needed to ask Sophia a few questions and he didn't want everyone around them to hear the conversation. No one would understand them. "Sure." Sophia said and started to walk with him down the hall away from the group of her friends. Once they were to the end of the hall where no one was at, Sophia turned to him and asked, "so what did you want to talk about? And where have you been for the last week?" "I've been... busy." He said calmly and ran his fingers through his sandy blonde hair. He didn't want to tell her where he had been, he himself wanted to forget it. He thought about the physical fights he had up north with family and shook his head. Family matters were so petty sometimes. "So how have you been?" He asked, trying to be friendly. Sophia was amazed that he wanted to have a real conversation and she liked that. She liked the attention from him. "I've been good. Getting used to the school, making new friends, you know, all of it. But what did you really want to talk to me about? I highly doubt that it's about school." She said and rested her back against the brick wall. As much as she wanted to believe he just wanted to talk, she knew that he had something else on his mind. He bit on his lip, not really sure how he was going to ask this next question. He wasn't sure if she knew anything about time lapsing yet. He knew someone was though, he could feel it in the air. The only thing was the last time lapser was Victoria and she was now dead. So it had to be her granddaughter Sophia, it would only make sense. "Yeah, um, this is going to sound weird but have you been doing any time lapsing?" Sophia looked at him like he was crazy. She really had no idea what he was talking about. She had no idea what time lapsing meant. She thought it might be for a homework project that she missed. "What?" Sophia asked. He frowned at her. He knew that she was playing him. "Don't play with me, I know what you are." He said strictly putting his hands on either side of Sophia. He was frustrated at her. She acted like he was stupid but he was sure that she knew what he was talking about. Sophia felt the heat come off his body, it was hot like a stove. He was starting to scare her. "I don't know what you're talking about? Is this the new project we have to do in history?" Sophia said remembering that there was this big project about a timeline or something like that due next week. "You don't know....." he said his voice barely audible and dropped his hands to his side still looking right into Sophia's eyes to see if she was telling the truth. He couldn't believe that she didn't know what he was talking about. Libby saw Lewis put his hands next to Sophia and frowned. Libby knew that he was being a little too forceful with her. He needed to talk to her more gently especially since Sophia seemed so good at keep secrets. But Lewis was never good at being gentle. Just by looking at the faces Lewis was making, Libby knew she needed to rescues Sophia. "Hey, there you guys are." Libby said and come up to them, to break whatever they were talking about up. "So Lewis are you free tonight? I'm having a party; you can come if you want." He looked at Libby with a frown. "Um...maybe." She was always had a habit of dropping in where she didn't belong and that irritated him. He knew that his moment alone with Sophia was over. "I'll see you around Sophia, Libby." He said to the girls and walked off down the now crowded school hall. "What was that about?" Libby said with a confused look on her face. "I have no idea." Sophia said honestly and just as confused as Libby was as the bell rung to dismiss school for the day. "You look so cute." Lucy said as she drove Sophia to the party. She smiled down at her girl, proud of who she was becoming. "Thanks." Sophia said looking at herself. She wasn't quite sure what to wear for these things so she just put on a lace black top with a pair of bleached jeans. She just hoped that this wasn't to dressed up for it. "Call me when you need to be picked up." Lucy said and dropped her off at Libby's medium-sized home. Before she even walked in she heard music from inside pounding through the walls into outside. She felt intimidated as she stood on the door step. She didn't think that the party would be this big. "Wow, well, here goes nothing." She said, suddenly feeling more afraid of going to a party in her time then the ball she went to. She then opened the door and walked in to find at least 40 people inside. Libby saw Sophia walk in and smiled at her. "Oh hey Sophia!" Libby yelled and squeezed through the crowds to get to her. "I'm glad you made it!" She yelled over the music. "Is this what you call a party?" Sophia yelled back at her amazed that Libby got all of this put together from today. "Yeah." She said and smiled as they walked to the back of the house where it was quieter. "So I think Lewis is here." she said as she smiled at Sophia. She knew that Sophia had a sweet spot for Lewis, she just wasn't sure how safe he was with her. She figured if they talked in a party setting, it would be safer and maybe Sophia would realize that she wasn't interested in him. "Cool." Sophia said not caring. When Lewis asked her if she was time lapsing and the way he reacted scared her. She didn't want to be interested in a man that was that forceful. "Well do you want to dance?" Libby asked telling that she wasn't so excited about Lewis being here. Libby held back a smile. She knew that this was a good thing in the long run. "I'll just watch for a little bit, you can go though." Sophia said, smiled and sat down on a chair. She didn't want to embarrass her self too much since she was so new. She figured she would just hang back and enjoy the ambiance. "Ok I'll talk to you later." Libby said and left her alone by the food. Within a minute of Libby leaving Sophia, Lewis took his chance and walked up to Sophia. He wanted to clear some air between them. What he did was out of line. "Can I talk to you?" Lewis asked as he came up to Sophia. "It depends are you going to be weird about it?" Sophia asked him with sass in her voice. She frowned at him and got up from her seat, ready to walk away from him. She didn't want to be yelled at by him twice in one day, once was already too many times. "Please, don't." He said and grabbed her hand to stop her. "I just wanted to say I'm sorry for acting like that. I can get carried away sometimes." Lewis with a look of true sadness in his eyes. Sophia frowned, she didn't want to forgive him so easily but something told her that she needed to. Finally she sighed and said, "ok, I forgive you. But can you tell me what that was about?" "How about if I tell you later." He knew that a party setting was not the place to talk about what he needed to talk to her about. "Ok. That's fine. But don't expect me to forget about it because I won't." She said with a small smile. He nodded at her, knowing that they were on their way to making up and being friends. "So, well, do you want to dance with me? Or something?" Lewis asked while rubbing the back of his neck with his left hand looking somewhat unconformable. "You have one sad way of asking girls to dance with you." Sophia said and smiled and took his right hand said, "of course I'll dance with you."
