Chapter 12

"Sophia...don't trust him." A man said with dark blonde short wavy hair and eclectic blue eyes standing about 20 yards from Sophia on a sea of waving long grass. "What? Why?" Sophia asked while staring at his profound features of his face. For some reason, he looked somewhat familiar but she couldn't place the face. He had one of a kind look you would never forget with his high cheekbones and his fair contrasting skin tone. "Because Famie's are not to be trusted." He said and disappeared, leaving Sophia alone in the grass field. Thunder clapped in the distance and a gust a wind whipped through her hair. She suddenly realized that the man was the same that pushed Elijah off the cliff. "Wait! Who is he?" Sophia yelled and sat up straight in her bed. She looked around her room and let out a sigh as she realized that she woke herself up. What were famies and why could they not be trusted? All these questions started to give her a headache. She rolled over on her bed and grabbed her phone to check the time. She frowned in disappointment when she saw that it was only 5 AM. It was hard to think that just 4 hours ago she was partying at Libby's. "Why? It's Saturday. I can sleep in." Sophia said and laid back down. Even though her body begged her to go back to sleep, her mind couldn't stop working. "Why does this always happen to me?" she sighed after laying in bed for 30 minutes. All she wanted to do was to sleep in past 8. Finally, she gave up on attempting to sleep and got up to put some sweats on. Her mind was working double time on how she could figure out her dream. "That's it, I'll go to the library they have to have something...or how about I just go visit Elizabeth. She should have answers." She said to herself with a smile as she thought about how a simple jump through time could answer all of her questions. She quickly changed her clothes to the dress that she wore a few nights ago. She walked carefully down the halls and down the steps to get to the Library. She didn't want to wake anyone up at this hour. When she got into the library, she walked up to the book and touched it with her hand that her ring was on. In a flash, she was back in time again. As the pages dropped to the ground, there was Abraham, waiting for her. "I knew you were going to be here." Abraham said to her with a smile, sitting in a leather chair. He woke up this morning only thinking about Sophia. He knew that there was something wrong with her, because the same thing happened with Victoria when she was alive. He knew she was going to come so he waited in this chair until she came. As a watcher, it was his job to watch and protect her, even if that protecting was just answering questions. She didn't know this yet but her blood line shared a strong bond with Watchers. She smiled at him lightly. She had no idea how he always seemed to know when she needed help but it was really convenient. She was starting to trust him. "I have a whole bunch of questions that I want to be answered, can you do that?" "Of course I can. At least I can try." He said and sat forward looking at Sophia. He was bracing himself for any hard questions that he might have to answer. Sophia sat down on a chair right next to him and told him about her dream that she just had. "So what does it mean?" She asked after she explained the dream. He was hoping that he didn't have to explain this to her. Famies were complicated to explain. If he explained them, he would have to explain a lot more, and he didn't really want to talk about that just yet. He wanted to ease into the Druid bloodline and magic information. He didn't want to overwhelm her. He sighed finally after taking a minute to formulate an answer and then said, "a Famie or more formally called a famlotease is part of the old druid bloodline." She smiled at him. She was excited that she was finally starting to get answers. "What do they do?" Abraham paid careful attention to his words, he didn't want to say too much too soon. He didn't want her to be afraid. "They are a watcher of time. They keep records and can tell when people time travel or 'time lapse'. Most people that are still alive in your time are from that direct line of the druids."Abraham knew he could say more about this line. He could say how they were liars, power hungry and cruel, but instead, he kept his mouth shut. "Wait, time lapsing, I think I know that one. Lewis talked to me about that." Sophia said thinking back to the talk that Lewis and her had at school about time lapsing. He frowned at her. That was not what he wanted to hear. He feared that Sophia was already starting to hang out with the wrong kind of people. She shouldn't be friends with one of them without knowing more about magic first. Maybe it was too soon to tell her more details. "Really? What is the kid's name?" He asked, making sure to keep a calm composure. "Lewis Reed." He let out a sigh of releif, he knew that Sophia was hanging out with the right people. Lewis Reed was famlotease. But Abraham also knew that the Reeds could be trusted. Victoria trusted them. Even in his time, he knew he could always trust the Reed family with his life many times over. "Ah, I knew, well know the Reeds, they were at the ball the other night. They are good people you can trust them." In his time, the Reeds were good alleys in the fight. "Are there people that I can't trust?" Sophia asked, amazed at all this information she was finding out. Abraham was a fountain of knowledge and all Sophia wanted to do was find out as much as she could. There was no way of tiptoeing around this subject. Sophia knew how to ask the right questions and Abraham thought it best for her to know, no matter what her grandmother thought. "Well at this time there are a lot of them, well relativity. I've been working on the statistics and I think there are about a total of 34 direct line druids and about 20 of those lines have collaborated with Lord Nelson." "Who is Lord Nelson?" Every question Sophia asked felt like she got two more questions in return. There was so much that she didn't know and she felt like she needed to know all of it. "He lives on the coast." Abraham said, trying to be as cryptic as possible. He didn't want to tell Sophia about him in detail just yet. If he did he was sure she would run for the woods. And he couldn't let that happen. He needed her just like Victoria said he would. It was easy for Sophia to guess that was who had Elizabeth sister. She was smarter than people gave her credit for. "Is that the person that has Elizabeth's sister?" Abraham raised his eyebrows. She was better at piecing together the information then he thought. Maybe he should tell her more. He was starting to think that she brave enough for it. She seemed like a fighter, just like Victoria. "Yes. He is an evil man." "What does he want?" She asked. All she wanted to do was to find out more. She felt a need to help in any way. But first, she needed to know more. "You know that book that you use to time travel? Well, if he has a guardian and the book then he can alter time, as we know it." Abraham explained to her honestly. "So that's what we guard, the book?" Sophia asked him looking at the book that was so close to them. He nodded. There was more things that they guarded, but that was one of the most important things. "Yes. And it's my job to guard you and your family, AKA I watch you. Watcher." "But you weren't very good at your job then because the sister is gone." Sophia said a little too bluntly. Abraham couldn't help but flinch as she said those words. He didn't want to relive that day again. That had to be one of the worse days in his life, one where he truly failed at his job. He just thought about Lord Nelson holding Elizabeth's sister in his hands and looking at him with a smile. Abraham shook his head to get that memory out of his mind. Sophia knew as soon as she said those words, she overstepped her boundary. She didn't mean for it to come off too blunt, but it was the truth and she so badly wanted to know what happened that day. Instead of pushing it farther she changed the topic for his sake. "And do you know how many druid bloodline people there are now?" "For your information, we are called Vestlers. There are four Vestler main lines the Watchentager, the Famloteases, the Baygonen and the Guarders. And in your time I do believe that there are about 20 Vestlers families in total." "Only 20 today?" Sophia asked in amazement. She wanted to know so badly what happened to all of them. "Yes, it didn't help that for a while people liked to kill Vestlers like a sport. And it also doesn't help that the Vestler power skips every other bloodline." Abraham said and shook his head as he thought about all the people he had already seen die in the hands of others. "People try to kill us?" Sophia asked in shock. All this information that Abraham was sharing was crushing Sophia's perfect little world around her. She couldn't believe these things that Abraham was saying. She didn't think the world could be so terrible. "I think that has stopped in your time but it's still going strong here." Abraham said with a sad sigh. Sophia nodded at him. There was a minute of silence as a somber attitude fell over them like a blanket. Sophia tried to come up with another question quickly to change the topic. "So what do the Baygonen do?" Abraham couldn't believe that Sophia was still willing to ask tough questions. They had already been here for over two hours talking but Sophia kept on asking away. He still couldn't believe that her grandmother didn't share anything with her about Vestlers and this life. Abraham was starting to believe that it was her plan all along to make him train Sophia all on his own. This was supposed to be Victoria's job. "They are, well they do...." but he stopped as a pair of voices got louder and louder outside the door to the library. He stopped talking as the door opened to reveal Elizabeth and Elijah. "Lalala. I cannot hear you Elijah!" Elizabeth said as she ran into the library, covering her ears with her hands. She stopped dead in her tracks and put her hands down to her side causing Elijah to bump into her when she saw Sophia sitting with Abraham. "Sophia!" Elizabeth said as a smile formed on her face. "It's been too long!" she said and gave her a big hug. "I was here a few days ago." Sophia said with a laugh as she hugged her back. Elizabeth started to love Sophia like a sister and she wanted to see her as much as she could. She missed it when she went days without seeing her. "As I have said before, far too long." She said and smiled at her as she drew out of the hug. "Hello Sophia." Elijah said and gave her a sheepish smile. He felt his heart speed up as he saw her. For whatever reason he got so nervous around her, after that ball, he couldn't stop thinking about her. "Hi." She said and smiled at him. "Well, Elijah and I were just about to go riding. Do you want to come?" Elizabeth asked. She was hoping that Sophia would say yes. "Now? It's like 6 AM." Sophia said and smiled, amazed that they where even wake at this time. "What on earth you talking about? It is noon I do believe." Elizabeth said. "What?" Sophia said with amazement in her voice and looked up at Abraham. She wondering if she really had been talking with Abraham for hours. To her it didn't seem that long. "I'll talk about that later to you. You deserve a break, have fun." Abraham said kindly. He was grateful that Elizabeth came in when she did. It gave him a break to figure out what he was going to say to her next. Sophia smiled at him with a nod. "Ok let's go!" Sophia said and followed Elijah and Elizabeth out of the library.
