Jason had a painful headache and his stomach protested. His eyes fluttered open. The first things his eyes focused on was Lusie's sleeping face as she was against the tree trunk. His head seemed to be on her lap. The next thing that came back to his vision was a bright sun shining above the trees. Birds were chirping in the distance. Jason winced as he tried to sit up.
"Finally awake. We thought you might have died on us last night." Damian voiced. Jason looked over in the direction he was in. The angel was leaning against another tree across from them. Damian had his arms crossed over his chest. Jason looked around to see if Lusie's grandfather was around but did not see him.
"Alfreds gone ahead to find you somewhere to sleep tonight in town." Damian answered the unvoiced question. Jason just nodded.
A quiet movement behind him prepared him for the small soft hand that found its way on his forehead. Jason moved to better face Lusie. She looked deeply concerned that there were lines frowning on her face. Her eyes reflected the worry she felt. Quietly she asked in a whisper, "Are you ok? I was so worried when you suddenly fainted."
Jason's body felt warm and fuzzy knowing Lusie had been worried over him. "Yes. I will explain as soon as we start our journey. We really must be getting to the safe space by now." Jason got up and felt a sharp pain in his stomach. He groaned but Jason held off Lusie's worries by insisting they get ready to leave.
When everything was packed away they started walking. Slowly Jason's body started to ease. Lusie handed him the folded bandana he had collected their food in. He noticed that some of it was gone and he was glad that Lusie had eat while he slept. He had been mostly concerned for her yesterday. Today however in the burning afternoon sun Lusie was the one fussing over him. The whole actions they made had Damian want to gag. It was so obvious to him that they were a match for one another. It was just a matter of when they would say it to each other.
While waking Jason shared what happened last night. He explained the sensations of pain and who had appeared. However Jason kept out the torture the demon Azza wished to inflict on Lusie out. One he did not want to frighten her more than she was already. Two he did not wish to think of it. From his story he could already feel the worried expression creeping on Lusie's face again. He could also feel the displeasure Damien wore on his face.
"So he has brought Azza into this. Satan apparently is having regrets for agreeing to let you escape or he never attended to let you leave in the first place." Damian voicalized his thoughts.
"Who is Azza?" Lusie asked more directed towards Damian than Jason.
"An egyption demon with her name meaning strong. She was one of tons of Angels that allowed herself to be swayed by Lucifer. Believed that they should be higher than God. She was in the war that Lucifer lost. For her punishment along with the other Angels that followed Lucifer they became Satan's Angel's. We call them the fallen ones but humans call them demons. Which is exactly the type that can possess Jason even when they are a stronger source than the creatures that have controlled you before." Damian explained as they walked off the forest grounds and in the area of town. Jason was uneasy about that knowledge. Quietly they continued on into town thinking about the knowledge Damian gave.
The trio walked into town close together. Jason held Lusies hand to keep her close. He did not need to lose her in the huge crowd. They must be in some type of marketplace because there were stands all around and crowds everywhere. Lusie and Jason felt sickly claustrophobic. Luckily Lusie saw her grandfather at a stand close by.
"Follow me. I found the perfect family that should let you spend the night. It will be dark soon so let's hurry." Alfred greeted and got straight to the point. None of them have much time. They could all feel it. Something was getting closer.
So Jason, Lusie, and Damian followed Alfred through the thick crowd. The sun was fading as they got towards the edge of town in the direction they would be traveling tomorrow. Lusie was growing nervous. How were they supposed to ask strangers to house them for the night? She seemed like the only one truly worrying about it however.
They came up a street that did not have much people. The houses looked somewhat run down and the growing darkness did not help. Lusie could hear a crying coming from an ally.. She frowned. After asking if the others heard the cry Jason suggested they go investigate. It seemed to bother Lusie and the only way to ease her was to find the source.
They walked into the ally that Lusie heard the cry from. As they walked towards the dumpster Jason began to hear the crying as well. Its was a soft cry that sounded like it was made by a child. Lusie stopped walking and Jason almost ran into her.
"What has you so upset?" Lusie asked while squatting to make eye level with the dark haired boy hiding in the corner. For some reason Lusie had felt drawn to this child. Usually the pull brought her to spirits but this boy was very much alive.
The boy sniffed and whipped at his eyes. He looked up at Lusie. He could not be more than 4 years old Lusie thought to herself. "I got hurt and now I can't walk home." The boy spoke in a pain filled voice. Lusie could see the boy was holding his leg close to him and was trying to sound brave.
"May I see it? My friend and I have some tools that we could use to help." Lusie whispered in her best reassuring voice.
The boy hesitated for only a little while before agreeing. Slowly Lusie got out the first aid kit while Jason looked over the child's leg. Jason could see the child had cut his leg pretty deep but luckily the boy would not need stitches. Lusie talked calmly with the child as Jason cleaned, bandaged, and wrapped the child's wounds. Jason was amazed by how the child responded so trustingly to Lusie. She seemed to have a skill handling children.
Once the wound was taking care of Lusie, Jason, Alfred and Damian guided the boy home. When the mother opened the door she was so relieved. The mother had been so worried for her child. She thanked Lusie and Jason and asked if there was anything she could do. Jason asked if they had any spare rooms they may use for the night. The mother listened to Jason's we are traveling to the next town story he gave. Lusie was surprised and relieved that the mother had agreed.
"Here. Take this with you Lusie. I hope this helps keep your spirits up on your journey." The little boy said cheerfully as he handed her a small bottle with holy water in it. Lusie smiled and found some amusement in the gift knowing that they were being chased by demons. She thanked the child and gave him a hug.
When Jason and her went to sleep that night after having a meal with the family they slept peacefully. In the first night in a long time they both slept without worrying about the doctor finding them in their hideouts. Lusie was grateful to the mother and son for their hospitality. Sadly she wished she could continue having deep felt conversations with them both. However neither one of them wanted to in danger these kind people. So at the first light they would leave the peace these people brought them.
