Chapter 8:

A couple weeks went by before Lusie woke up again. Her mind fuzzy once again but it was getting familiar and easier to wake up her system. Opening her eyes she saw her room was empty. A thin blanket was over her to keep the chill away. Her hands were not restricted but she had bruising from the straps. Lusie noticed her left ring finger had a plain gold colored ring tattoo. She frowned. Slowly Lusie sat up and the blanket slide to her lap. Luckily no one was around not even her grandfather was present. She looked around the room and found it the same as before. She got out of bed and changed into clean clothes. While she did so she could not feel the pain from her wounds. Lusie unwrapped the bandage around her stomach and found that her wound was healed without a scare. "How?" The question whispered past her lips. Quickly she wrapped it up again afraid that if Tom and the Doctor noticed she would be put on the table again. Thinking of them made her realize it was extremely quiet compared to normal. The light shining through her very tiny window told her it was evening. Lusie decided that if she was going to escape like the angel and demon said that she had to look for Jason. There was no better time than after they had recovered. She was not completely sure how she knew he had woken up. Quietly Lusie moved opening her door and slipped through. Lusie walked down the hall and started towards where she knew he had been held before. Hopefully it lead her to him. If not she was not sure where else to look. Her nerves were on edge. Every sound she heard made her skin jump. She tried to breathe calmly and quietly as the dead she often saw. Lusie made sure to stay in the shadows even though she got cold as ice. Somehow she knew that if she moved in the dark like Jason had she would find him. It felt like forever by the time she reacted his old metal door. She found the ruin of the room if you would call the small box a room he spent his time in. Looking up at the ceiling Lusie whispered, "How am I going to find him in this place?" She really did not expect an answer. Lusie looked down at the rumble of dirt around her feet. If she was not careful she would cut herself and receive and infection. The remains of light was fading away. She had to hurry. Lusie did not like the dark and really did not wish to be stumbling around trying to find him in unfamiliar grounds. Taking a deep breath she shifted her steps around until she felt safe enough to walk without hurting herself. The only way she had left to look was straight down the hall away from the treatment room. She could do this. One step at a time. About a dozen doors past the treatment room that all had at least 3 mentally ill patients in a room making noises Lusie found a staircase. She made sure Tom or the Doctor was not around before taking her first steps on the staircase. Lusie thanked the angel and God that the staircase though wooden was not giving out under her or squeaking beneath her feet. She heard voices up above her half way from the top of the stairs. Swiftly she lowered herself blending into the staircase as she strained her ears listening. "You can not be serious. He will not allow it." A voice similar to Tom's raised. "He needs to go. That boy will do nothing but hurt everyone else." The doctor's voice was quieter. Tom snorted. "You mean he will kill you. Did you ever think about what would happen after you made the boy a monster? Maybe that he would go after you the creater or pain?" There was silence for a while as if the doctor was truly thinking it over for the first time. "The boy can not do anything on his own. He always needed a guiding hand. Now I will guide him to his death." Lusie covered her mouth holding the gasp she felt at the tip of her tongue. How could a father be so cruel? He made his son kill and now that his son was growing dangerous to attack the man that harmed him the father wanted to get rid of him. Lusie could not believe what she was hearing. Never had she thought it possible that a father would not have any love in their heart for their own child until this moment. She felt a little sick imagining how Jason had lived in such a loveless family. No wonder Jason seemed like he could not trust anyone. "He will attack you before you get the chance William." Tom reasoned. He knew that the boy would fly at Dr. William before the man could get his full body in the doorway. There was no way he would live once Jason got the opportunity. "Oh I know. That's why we will put the drugs into his food. Then we wait until tomorrow night before going up to the 6th floor storage room to finish him." The doctor sounded like he was actually smiling. Lusie dug her small nails into her palm to stop herself from attacking the doctor. "You're out of your mind. I am not having any part of this!" Tom shouted but Lusie hear his footsteps walk the opposite direction. Dr. William probably did not agree however he did not seem to go after Tom. Instead his foot falls were towards Lusies right and a door shut tight. Lusie stayed still on the staircase for a while until she was absolutely sure no one was around. Quickly as possible without making noise Lusie hurried up the steps and looked for the next set of stairs. If what the doctor said was true she needed to climb 4 more stairs before reaching the 6th level. Time dragged on as she went through the steps carefully. The light barely shimmered through the window slits. It was taking her longer than it should but she was doing the best she could with the limited resources she had. By the time she got to the 4th floor it was dark out and the moon light was her only light now. Luckily there was no patients around it was all storage. It was actually quiet and peaceful. Well until the 5th floor where all the ghosts seemed to live. Lusie had trouble breathing like the air was being sucked from her. These spirits were not friendly. The more steps she took she felt the intense heavy aura. The spirits knew she noticed them and amplified the pressure. Nope not friendly. Halfway from the stairs Lusie hit the floor and was hyperventilating. The spirits surrounded her crowding her. Lusie curled up in a ball and tears leaked from her eyes. 'Please. Please. Help me.' Lusie cried just like she had the first night. A gold light flew from her tattoo and surrounded her. A warmth envelopes her cold shaking body. Lusie could hear Jason's voice as he spoke. "Come to me Lusie. I am the most scariest being dead or alive. You can not let them scare you." Lusie took a deep breath. Her nerves calmed down and slowly uncurled herself. Warmth still filled her limbs as she crawled to the staircase. She tried to ignore all the spirits in the room. She willed herself to just focus on the stairs. Lusie imagined Jason on a table most likely strapped down. If his father went through with his threat Jason would be helpless in the condition he was being restrained in. She heard Jason snort as if he was right next to her. “So my old man wants to kill me in such a pathetic way.” Lusie paused in her movements to stand up on the stairs. She could not possibly be communicating with Jason. Sure if he was already dead then Lusie could understand hearing him but now did not make sense. Lusie only started hearing him when the gold tattoo glowed. Was that how they were talking? “You know you really overthink everything until you have a solution that your minds okay with. It is quite exhausting to listen to the wheels turning in your head. Are you as talkative verbally or you one of those quiet people that keep their thoughts to themselves?” Jason’s voice was calm with a note of teasing. Lusie felt a blush warm her cheeks. She was not sure how to respond so she just continued her pace on the stairs and tried to concentrate instead of thinking. Jason just laughed knowing he had embarrassed his other soul. Somehow Jason felt Lusie was calmer than she had been before. He could not feel his blood racing or his throat clamping up out of fear. They both took deep breaths and slowly their muscles relaxed. The rest of the staircase walk did not seem so long to Lusie nor did she feel afraid. Lusie was not alone even when the gold ring tattoo faded the light filling her. She knew that Jason was beside her which made her stronger.
