Jason waited for Lusie. Being by himself for most of his life helped to wait for days of torcure his father would give him. He was not sure how he had felt Lusie beside him controlled by the fear she had of spirits. She for sure was not used to demonic spirits. Maybe that’s something he must have got instead living in this hell hospital. When he had felt her fear and hear her thoughts he said the only thing he could think of. Jason did not want her to be afraid of him but he thought it may help her continue on to the stairs. It seemed to work. He smiled thinking of her running thoughts he had heard as if they were his own. They were both surprised by the experience but instead of letting it happen Lusie wanted to find a reason for it. He chuckled just remembering how his cheeks had felt warm which was most likely her blushing. It was cute. Which was not a word he liked to use but she fit it to the letter t so far.
Jason barely heard the wood squeak. A smile turned his lips upward. For a girl that did not seem to have a tough life that needed the skill to sneak around Jason thought Lusie was doing pretty well. He was not sure how she managed to walk up 6 or so flights of stairs without getting caught. Yet he knew he should just be grateful she did after all she had learned something that made it so he did not die pathetically.
Jason saw a figure pause outside his door. He was pretty used to that happening but the feeling was different. The figure did not bring any fear or put his instincts on edge. No this figure was Lusie that was terrified of the dark and having a hard time probably seeing. Quietly Jason whispered the first words that entered his head. "Your a lot more quieter in person."
The figure stilled as if trying to see through the dark looking for him. He could not help the smile across his face that grew. She was such a fragile person in a room with a very dangerous monster. A monster that apparently was her other half. He never thought a monster like him would feel so protective of someone. Lusie was the total opposite from him.
"Jason?" Lusie whispered. Her figure flinched because to her she sounded too loud.
"It's ok. No one comes up here. My father even hates this level. He thinks the lost spirits up here will rip out his dark soul as punishment for all the treatments on the helpless patients." Jason rambled on to help Lusie follow his voice to him. "This is where most of my father's experiments happened. This is where I became…" His throat swells up. His stomach clenches even though it has been so many years the fear as a child came back.
Lusie could hear in his voice the pain and sudden fear of memories better left forgotten. Luckily she had found most of her way to him and walked the rest of the handful of steps in the silence. Lusie was not sure what to say to make the pain ease. There probably was no words that would help.
All she did was lay her left hand on his arm. Her gold ring shimmered together with his similar ring tattoo at her touch. Jason was brought back to the present by a warmth he had never felt before. He realized Lusie was touching his right arm and something of a gold light shined off her finger. The same light that had appeared when he felt her emotions below the stairs.
"Thank you." Jason said when he felt stronger again. Lusie's blue eyes looked confused and worried for him that he had to say something. He never liked that look on anyone but on her it made him not feel pity. Only a great amount of concern swam in the pools of her eyes. A small smile lifted the corners of her lips.
"Definitely feels weird hearing you say that." She replied. Lusie could not imagine that Jason was the type to say that sentence often let alone mean them. Yet here they were and she knew that it would be stuck in her memory along with the cocky smirk that followed her reply.
A moment passed where they just looked at each other forgetting the world or the surroundings. The light on their rings wasn't shining very bright like the time Lusie needed the strength. Yet the light helped them both see the connection they felt. A connection that was making them feel human again.
Lusie's cheeks blushed and she shifted her eyes away feeling suddenly embarrassed. Her eyes landed on the straps holding him down. She scolded herself for getting distracted. Of course that was the whole point she had come to look for him. Jason watched the whole process filter through her without Lusie paying attention. He wanted to laugh at how cute it was that he could read her expressions to know just what she was thinking about.
Lusie started messing with the strap close to her and after a while the strap began to loosen. The other three straps came off quickly after that. Jason was rubbing his wrists one at a time when Lusie finished. They probably tightened his restraints more than Lusie's out of fear. They should be afraid, Jason thought as feeling came back in his hands then next to his ankles. Lusie waited patiently while he worked.
When Jason was ready to stand he motioned for her to stand to his right side incase his legs were weak. Which they were and he ended up having to lean on her until they got to the stairs. She felt crushed when he had to lean on her but with her lip bit and her mind determined she was able to hold them up to the stairs. They went through a process. Lusie would go down the stairs first so then when Jason got to the bottom step he would lean on her until the next staircases. Lusie was breathing heavily by the 4th floor. She was not the type that exercised much and she was paying for it now. Though Jason tried to not put as much of his weight on her as he could.
Let's just say descending was time consuming. When Jason felt his legs were strong enough to hold him he was on the 3rd floor. When he told Lusie it was ok he could walk Jason saw relief in her eyes. They both were thankful for it. They were reaching the section that would be the most difficult to escape from. Jason just hoped he could get her away without any injuries.
He paused in his steps down the stairs. He was actually concerned for another. Jason was surprised and just stared down at Lusie who continued down the stairs. She was changing him. She is becoming more important to him as the seconds pass by. A knot tightened in his jaw. He was not going to get caught up in those fantasy feelings. Those feelings have only caused him pain.
Lusie could feel Jason staring at the back of her head. She wondered what he was thinking of. Curiosity took over her and she finally gave in to turning her gaze towards him once she was at the bottom step. He looked so determined about something. Jason could feel his determination dissolving slightly when the moonlight caught Lusies face up at him. Those blue sea eyes were looking amused and curious. Taking a deep breath Jason ignored the pull and continued the steps.
The last two levels were in silence. Their bodies were tense knowing they were getting close to possibly being caught. Jason held Lusie back in the shadows when his extra sensitive hearing picked up a foot shuffle close up a head. The Doctor was humming to himself as the tools from his treatment room where shuffled about. The door was open a crack which is how he could hear the sounds. They shared a glance and Jason knew she understood him. They had to be as quiet as possible and she had to wait for his ok before they moved.
Minutes passed before Jason nodded signalling for them to carefully walk past the rooms as quietly as they could. Lusie held her breathe when they neared the lighted room. Every step to the room made the hair on her neck raise. Jason's body became tense as he could be. Slowly they made it pass the room and down the hall.
They couldn't relax because they came up to a door with a scanner. Lusie sighed. They wouldn't be able to go any further. Jason surprised her however by using a nail from the ground and unwiring the machine to open it. Lusie was shocked when the door clicked open when no alarm went off.
