Lusie woke up on her small uncomfortable cotton mattress. A scream had jolted her up. The scream had been piercing through the wall. Lusie readjusted herself to sit up on the bed. She lifted her right hand up rubbing the sleep away.
"Go back to sleep." Her grandfather whispered from his spot next to her bed.
Lusie yawned and only nodded before laying down. She fell back to sleep as her head hit the pillow.
A bright light hurt her closed eyes. Her mind was muggy from being awoken again. She cracked an eye open to see a man had entered the door and was dropping a bowl of medicines at her bedside stand. "What time is it?" Lusie whispered.
The man stared down at her hazel eyes with his brown shade. His voice was rough to her ears as he replied, " Time for you to get up and start your first treatment."
Lusie frown while she got up into a sitting position and stared at the medications in the bowl. "What are these?" She asked unsure if she really wanted to know.
"They help relax the mind." He said a touch annoyed. He had crossed his arms in front of his grey scrubbed outfit.
Something told her not to take them but the man was watching her waiting until she took the two pills. Sighing she grabbed the tiny bowl and tilted it. One large pill and a medium size pill fell in her mouth. Pretending to swallow she actually pressed the pills under her tongue before putting down the little bowl. The man nodded before telling her to get dressed while he waited for her in the hall.
Once he shut the door behind him Lusie spit the pills out and looked around the room to hide them somewhere they could not be found. She found the perfect spot which was one of the loose grey tiles under her feet. Quickly she undid the tile and there was a hole as long as her arm to her elbow. A smile crossed her face. One good thing. She laid the tile back in place before changing into her plain royal blue short sleeve shirt and blue jeans with her brown snickers.
"Hurry up!" The man yelled through the door growing impatient. He muttered "Stupid delusional teenage girl."
Several minutes later Lusie opened the door and was walking towards Dr. Williams treatment room. Lusie looked around. The hall was small with doors leading to rooms she wasn't sure held other patients or whatever they were for. Some doors had a small square windows and a slot under. Looking closer she could see people through them that were pacing or rocking back and forth. Some of the people were talking to imaginary people. Lusie swallowed the lump growing in her throat.
The farther down the hall they went in silence she saw doors with metal bars behind the windows and the patients screams reached her ears. Her feet began dragging and she started to fall behind the man guiding her. Minutes past by and she was still walking through the hall. There was a complete metal door that caught her attention. There is not any windows or slots on the door.
"I wouldn't get too close to it. That's where patients get isolated. There is one room in there that has a demon possed kid inside. His killed some of the other patients before." The man said noticing Lusie had moved close to it.
A shiver crawled down her back. She turned away from it. Though Lusie wondered if there was really someone possessed but she was scared enough not to get any closer. A few doors down she was led into the room. Dr. Williams turned from a stand of medical tools to welcome her in. Seeing the blood stained tools made her stomach shift uneasy. Her eyes were glued to the one in his hand that looked like a knife.
"Don't worry. These aren't for you." He laughed seeing her gaze stuck on the tools he had been cleaning. Relief lingered in Lusie's expression. Dr. William set the tools down and nodded for the girl to have a seat on the strapped chair. She moved slowly towards it as if she knew what the chair was for but that isn't possible.
The man, Tom, who had guided Lusie began to strap her wrists to the chair. Lusie objected and tried to wrestle her arms free in the strong tight grip Tom had on her. They struggled for a while since she made it difficult however he still managed to strap her in. Lusie was afraid. She felt helpless and scared. She tried to tell herself that her parents wouldn't send her to a place that harmed patients.
Dr. William pressed a button in his pocket. Immediately he heard her scream from the electric waves of shock flowing through her. Her scream was high pitched that quite a few of Dr. Williams glass empty jars shattered on their shelves. Her head tilted forward as smoke escaped around her head as the last shock ended. Dr. William watched the entire thing. He believed this method of treatment helped all mentally ill people get over their disorders. Even hallucinations could be cursed he believed.
Lusie's eyesight very slowly started to come back. She was breathing heavy while her body was shaking against the impact that assaulted her moments before. Never had Lusie felt such pain. Her whole body felt like she was burning still. Her mind was fuzzy and she couldn't really remember why she was sitting down in front of the doctor. What was he a doctor for? Why was she here? She groaned but the sound came out more of a whimper from her sore throat.
"Lusie." The doctor said. He said her name again.
Lusie gazed up at him when it registered in her mind he was speaking to her. Oh how it hurt to move at all but she did. Dr. William stood and looked at her as if he was enjoying observing the pain he caused. She felt truly sick. Lusie started heaving. Tom quickly placed a trash bin on her lap as she vomited the dinner she had yesterday.
The doctor moved a chair in front of her and waited for her to recover enough to answer. He leans forward placing his elbows on his knees and held his hands together while he took in the signs her body gave. He could tell she never experience any kind of pain physically anywhere near this amount. She also would take a while to recover before he could perform any other treatments. He thought she may be experiencing amnesia to some degree.
"Do you remember your name?" He asked quietly.
She whispered yes even though her throat burned it was better than trying to move her head at the moment. Lusie did not even bother to look at him instead of her lap that no longer had a bucket on it.
"Lusie do you see anyone in this room besides us three?" He asked quietly as Tom went to dispose of her stomach liquid. Once done Tom stood by the door looking as if he was zoning out but he was listening quite closely to the soft conversation beside him.
Lusie groaned as she lifted her head slightly to give the room a glance. "There is a man on the metal operating stand wearing a long hospital gown with short blonde hair. There is another one of a little girl standing beside you with her hands on her hips that has long curly strawberry blonde hair."
Dr. William was intrigued by this girl. He found it interesting that she had described two former patients of his that had died at least an hour ago. The treatments he had performed to cure blood disease causing disorders had failed on those two patients. It was quite disappointing. However there will be plenty of ways to try for improvement. For now however focusing on the patient in front of him he realized there was much he had to do to break these though interesting hallucinations from her.
Tom moved from the door at the nod the doctor gave him. He quickly undid the straps from the girls wrists and pulled her up on her shaky legs. Tom had to keep a hold of one of her arms just so she wouldn't fall to the ground. He kept his grip on her the whole way back to the room she slept in. The trip back did not seem as long to Lusie because she was zoned out. She was thankful that the man helped her to her room and wasn't roughly dragging her.
Seeing her bed that had been uncomfortable to her before seemed like a blessing. Tom let her fall onto the bed and turned to leave. He looked over his shoulder when he had his hand on the door handle. The girl just laid as she had fallen and was sound asleep. Tom just shaked his head as he thought to himself she won't survive even a week in this hell hole.
