Dire straits
Amy
I always wonder about supernatural world. I am aware of their existence because my dad is part of ‘Indian secret supernatural association (ISSA). I don’t know much about his work because he never tell us. I only know that he travels a lot. But this time we are travelling all together and moving permanent because there have been only 4 years left for my dads retirement. Maybe there is very special task remaining for my dad and we are consider to be the part of the secret mission that I have zero clue about.
“You can complete your graduation there, right? My dad is more like arguing with me rather than asking.
“Yes I can papa but I don’t want to.” I loudly argued back.
“ you never told us about those creature and now you want to take us all there and live with them suddenly.” I stomped my foot and blurted out.
“They will never harm any human, believe me.”
My mom interfered in between.
Mom, what kind of species you are talking about? Wait ! Do you know them?
They both were silent for a while. My mom looking at my dad. I thought dad is the only who keeps secrets but I never expect it from mom.
“You were born there , but we moved into Gujarat after you turned one year old.” My dad breaks the silence.
“Why you never told me!!
“Oh how can I forget, It’s your duty to keep secrets right”.
“But you always travel alone, why are you taking us this time? I curiously asked my dad.
“Government will handle your further studies including your graduation, only if I moved in with family.”
“ They will provide me quarter with basic household facilities, so we don’t need anything.” He softens a bit.
“What’s wrong with that? Tell me. You can go abroad or anywhere you like after graduations, at the same time I will finish my job and after that we can go wherever you want”. I have to agree this time because he got the point.
don’t you find this thing weird papa? “I mean we never get an offer before.” I curiously looked at my dad.
What would they want in return?
“More information maybe, you will become friends with your age and collect the information.”
“This is the only benefit they can get it from you.” My dad explain to me. He always talk straight to the point.
“Okay, fine.” After thinking deeply, I almost said like whisper.
Great! He breathes out in relief. My mom knows that I have to accept the situation because this is the only formality. We will always do what my dad want us to do.
He is kind of strict. He talks less but loves us more. Besides I am the only child in the family and also a girl, so I do have to follow some rules but I am happy with my life. I just have few complaints because my dad travels a lot, so whenever he comes home from the outskirts i was sleeping and when I woke up he was sleeping. We only spend day like normal family in holidays. I am not a trouble some kid. I am always a good girl.
“Aditya, when will we shifting? My mom asking my dad.
“In a week. Start packing your important stuff. We don’t need all things.” He told us both.
“ Amy, you will get used to it, believe me.” My dad hugs me and pat my head.
“I know, papa.” I just be there for a moment, looking at my home, my old memories twirling in my mind. My family, My friends, my school, my music class, I have to leave all the things.
Suddenly I realise I have so much work to do and I don’t have enough time. I broke away from my father’s embrace and walk towards my room without saying a word.
