chapter ten

I STOOD IN FRONT of the entrance. The room screamed at me, forbidding me from entering it. Grandmum wasn't outside, nor in the regular rooms so it left me no choice to check this room. My hands were shaking, and I kept hesitating if to turn the metal knob or not. If grandmum wasn't in this room, I would be in great trouble for going inside. I've always wondered when growing up, why I wasn't allowed inside of the room hiding behind this door. Or maybe it wasn't a room. What if it was one of those dungeons I've read in those books away in college. At nights, when getting a cup of water, I've seen grandmum quietly trying to make her way from the other side, keeping the door as close to her as possible so no one could see what was held behind there. Grandfather would always try to distract me when grandmum went downstairs. He himself once told me he didn't know what was behind the door either, and he has tried a lot of times going behind the door, only to have grandmum scream and shout at him. Some years later, now thinking back on the stories he told me about grandmum and the door, seemed quite suspicious, but I was never the type of girl to disobey my grandmother. Or elders for that matter, but the more the woods sucked me in, the more I felt myself losing my mind. And it made me feel such things. I couldn't help it. The creeping furore... The uprising sensations... I smiled widely. I can go through this door, and if I find grandmum, I can go along my way. And if I don't find her, and she finds out I opened this door, I can tell her I was just looking for her. But that's not my only intentions. I want to know what grandfather didn't. What I shouldn't know. Even if it destroys me. I turned the knob. "Violet?" I head grandmum's voice behind me. I quickly slammed the door shut, and placed my hands to my chest. "Grandmum, where were you? I was looking for you." Grandmum frowned, "What're you doing in my book room, and why are you about to open this door?" I nibbled on the inside of my bottom lip, "I was worried. I looked everywhere and I guessed I could've found you in here." "I won't be in there Violet. Now please don't do this again." I nodded and frowned mentally. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to step into the room, but I knew grandmum was safe so that made me calm down a bit. "Grandmum, I'm going to the woods again." She pushed me into the kitchen and shut the book room's door, "I figured, so I was away preparing for you." My eyes lit up, "Who are you? And what have you done with my grandmother?" She rolled her eyes, "Remi, in all seriousness, the woods is a very dangerous place. Without your grandfather, I wasn't able to carry you into the woods like when you were younger. You're just like your father when he was alive. Curious and rebellious but I can't stop you from figuring out your life and who you really are. You're soon eighteen and you have no idea what's up with your own hair." I heard her sniff a little bit, "And when I die-" "You're not..." I looked straight at her, "You're not going to." "We all die someday. I'm not immortal and neither are you," She scratched the top of her hair, "Now, when I die. You at least have to keep this cottage. Do not let anyone put their hands on this cottage." I nodded. "Now be safe." She said, looking into my eyes and handing me an amethyst necklace that looked pretty run down. The fishline used to hold the necklace together was bent and balled up, "Do not lose this. This is a part of you. You've been brought home with this around your neck. Your grandfather took it away from you because he was afraid. He didn't want you to be found..." "Found by who?" She shifted from one foot to another, "By the Irish. Please keep this close and be safe. And don't forget to pray. I'll be praying for you each day. And please be home one last time so I can see you before I close my eyes. Your journey begins. Happy early birthday, my daughter. I forever love you." I wrapped my arms around her and sniffed, "Grandmum, stop being so negative. I'll be here before your time. I'll always be with you. Thank you... I love you." I felt grandmum smile on my shoulders, "Now go...time is ticking. Don't wait until you're old and grey." "I thought those were your intentions for me," I told her and she scoffed making me laugh. "Your bag is by the door. Inside has the basic necessities. You may not know what each is for right now, but trust me. Along the way, you will meet the nice and the bad. Do not be tricked, they come in many ways. Keep your trust low." I nodded. Am I really ready? ━━━ In three days I will be eighteen. An official adult, with no idea what's going on in her life. I was a mess. I wished I was normal like the other children I would see at school, or at college. Them having no idea that the wolves still exist. Children are being born up to this day and growing, having no idea what our history in Wolf Woods Village is. Their parents teaching them that wolves are nothing but a fairy tale. Nothing but lies, afraid to reveal the truth. Like dinosaurs and other distinct creatures. Their children are growing to be oblivious about the Irish, oblivious to the wars. Oblivious about the enemies. They're growing and thinking everything is all rainbows and sunshine, and the future is slowly forgetting about my grandfather. Forgetting about their protectors. The ones who once fought for the peace that they're receiving up to this day. It's unfair I have to live with the past upon my shoulders and they can't. I growled lowly and stepped into the woods.  My past. My future. My life. The amethyst necklace hung loosely around my neck, tucked inside my t-shirt. My boots making heavy steps upon the dirt. My head was held high. And as afraid as I was, I was ready. I may not know who I am in this world, but I know to me, I am the Alpha. And I will continue to carry my grandfather's name. In both my heart and in Ireland. 1121 words
