EPISODE THREE: HER SPOT

2933 Words
“I really have no idea that you scream like a lady.” Heather teased me and I gave her a poker face. I unlocked my seatbelt and got out of the car.   “I don’t scream like a lady,” I said and Heather rolled her eyes.   “Dude! You screamed louder than mine. I felt like my eardrums got broken!” Heather teased and laughed.   “The next time you’ll ask me to come with you? I’ll surely get a helmet.” I said and laughed.   “Sure you can buy it now. We are just here to buy some food, pea brain. You can buy your helmet now.” Heather said and I gulped. Where are we going? I saw her walk away and go inside the store. I looked at my wallet and looked at some extra money. Seriously. That ride is calling for death.   I followed Heather and I saw her buying some chips and soda. I get the basket she’s holding and keep on following her.   “Isn’t this too much?”  I asked, it seems like she’s going to throw a party.   “No, it’s not!” She answered with a goofy voice and smiled at me.   “Come with me.” She said and held my hand. I feel like I am turning red. My heart is beating fast again.   “Here… Let me pick you some--- THIS IS IT! THE MOST GORGEOUS PIECE HERE!” Heather said and put the helmet in my head. She smiled at me and took three steps away.   “Hey, pea brain! Smiiillee!!” She said and made some hand gestures. I look at her and she’s so cute. I smiled genuinely and she smirked.   “Ok stop. You’re ugly.” Heather teased and laughed.      “Shall we pay this now? What do you think?” Heather said and took off the helmet. I smiled at her as I could see her face up close. I can smell her fragrance and that drives me crazier.   I saw her walking away and I immediately followed her as I got back to myself. I was about to get my wallet but Heather insisted that she will pay for that.    “Well, that’s 60 dollars.” The cashier said and I saw him smile at Heather.   “But I can make that free if you gave me your number.” The guy said and I immediately stepped on the way.   “I am sorry to interrupt you dude, but this girl is my G-I-R-L-F-R-I-E-N-D… We will pay for that, right baby?” I asked and tried not to look nervous. I saw Heather trying not to laugh and gave the payment.   “Thank you,” I said and immediately walked outside the store. I immediately got inside the car and let out a deep breath.     “That was so close…” I said and Heather laughed at me.   “Yes B-A-B-Y,” Heather said with a goofy voice. I looked at her and I suddenly froze. UGH! WTF?! Heather is laughing and I start to put on my hood. I am trying to hide my face. It was turning tomato red. I know it is! I can feel my ears getting warm!    “Where are we going now, baby?” Heather keeps on calling me baby and I can’t help but to hide inside my hoodie. My heart beats fast and I feel like I can hear it. I even forgot to put my seat belt on! I can’t even feel how fast she’s driving. I slightly glanced at Heather and I saw her smiling. I smiled and started relaxing. After a couple of minutes, we stopped at the seaside. There are a lot of people here. I thought this would be romantic.   “Shall we?”  Heather said and I started to get things out. We walked to the beach and I looked at her. The sunset is nearly here and the sunray is perfect for her. She’s walking to a place where it’s not crowded. She said she has her spot here and I just need to follow her. I watched her take every single step. She turned and smiled at me. I can see her perfect chestnut brown eyes filled with the light from the sun. It was gorgeous as she is. Her hair is swaying with the wind and I can smell the fragrance of it. It was cherry.    “Here we are!” She joyfully said and started to place the blanket. We start preparing things and when we are all set, I start to remove my shoes and socks. I lay on the blanket and stretch my arms.   “So this is what enjoying should be,” I said and I saw Heather look at her phone. I can feel her change in emotion. I sit up and pat her shoulder.     “Hey, what’s wrong?” I asked and she smiled at me.     “Nothing, just typical high school stuff.” She said and genuinely smiled at me.      “LOOK! THE SUN IS SETTING!” I looked at the way she’s pointing and I looked at her again. I can see her eyes sparkling.   Thank God. I found an Angel. She’s the prettiest view I have. She is the scenery I am always willing to see. I can’t deny this. I am falling so damn hard to Heather. She looked at me with an innocent smile. I am mesmerized. I am captivated by that smile. Never fading… Just like the day, I saw her in her window.   “What are you looking at?” Heather asked and I started to get back to myself again.   “Nothing. I just feel like I want to take some photos of you.” I immediately said and smiled at her.  “Ok?” She confusedly said and I smiled at her.     “I just feel like the light compliments your skin,” I said and she rolled her eyes.     “You don’t have to explain pea brain. Just take some shots.” Heather said and looked at me in disbelief. I get my phone and start taking some shots. After taking some photos we open the soda and start drinking.   “Let me see the photos,” Heather said and grabbed my phone. I immediately tried to get my phone back but suddenly I fell into Heather. We are facing each other now and I feel like there’s something in me. My eyes focused on her lips but I immediately looked away. I stood up fast and I heard Heather laughing.   “Why are you laughing?” I asked but Heather kept on laughing. I looked at her and I couldn't help myself but also laugh.   “Dude, where are we? Are we in a book?” Heather said and laughed hard. I saw her wipe her tears and keep on trying to pick herself up.   “Oh, God. What is happening, Omg! I can’t even!” Heather said and got some chips.   “You’re the only person who made me laugh as hard as that,” Heather said and I looked at her in disbelief.   “What do you mean?”  I asked and she let out a sigh.   “You want to hear a story?”  Heather asked and I nodded at her. She looked away and started telling the story.   “So there was this girl born to be perfect. Do you know why? Because she’s from a respected family. A family that is full of dignity and a famous name in this small town. She is Heather.” I looked at her and she smiled weakly.     “If you are Heather you should always be the best. Getting an award is your goal. Being runner-up is not the best. You should be a champion if you are Heather Jones. You should always look polite. You should do this and that. If you are Heather then you live with rules and standards. You have nothing to say if you can’t beat what your parents achieved.” Heather said and looked at me. She smiled genuinely but I can’t smile back.   “How can you live like that? I mean that is so rude.” I asked and she laughed. “Dude if you are Heather then you should be used to it, especially when you live like that ever since you were born.” She said and laughed.   “So don’t tell me that you buy all of these chips because you never eat one of them?” Heather looked at me and rolled her eyes in annoyance.   “What do you think of me? Am I a joke to you?” Heather said and threw some chips in my face.      “What? I am just asking.” I said and we both laughed as hard as we could until we were breathless and both panting.   “You know what… I'm hoping that my mom and dad won't force me to do all of that.” I said and she looked at me.   “You are lucky to have your mom and dad Arthur. Trust me.” Heather said and held my hands.   “I think we better go before I get grounded,” Heather said and giggled. I smiled at her and quickly packed our things. I turn around and look at Heather. She smiled at me and I feel like I should do this. I should say something stuck in my throat for a long time.     “Heather, wait!” I loudly said and Heather stopped from where she was.     “I- I need to tell you something,” I said and Heather seemed to be listening and waiting for my words.   “I- I like you,” I said and I could see Heather stop smiling. Her face turned blank. I feel like I messed up.   “What are you saying? Stop fooling around. Let’s go” Heather said and walked away. My heart stops for a moment. “What are you doing Arthur? Stop messing things up.” I scolded myself and started walking. I got in the car and I saw Heather smile at me.   “What took you so long?” Heather asked   “Nothing. I just check if we left something or not.” I said and Heather brushed my hair. I smiled at her and she smiled as usual.     “Do you know that my dad will be really angry if he knows that I drive with that kind of speed?” Heather said and laughed.     “You mean General Jones? How can he be so mad? Isn’t he happy that her daughter is a pro driver?” I kidded aside and Heather laughed.   “I wish he was! But unfortunately, he is not happy about that. You know Mom and Dad! They are so protective, I can feel like sometimes they want me to do homeschooling.” Heather said and I looked at her. Yes, her mom does everything for her. She is like a princess, she is doing nothing but to study and do better than her previous achievements.     “Homeschooling will be boring,” I said and she giggled.     “Yes, it will.” She said and suddenly she steps on the break.   “What? What is it?” I asked and I saw her glare at me.   “Don’t you ever try to tell anyone about my favorite spot? Most importantly, don’t tell anyone that I brought you here. My parents will be nuts if they know that.” She said and stepped on the gas again. I was really confused about everything she said.   “I get the part about not telling your spot, but the part about telling everyone that you brought me to the beach? Why?” I asked and Heather rolled her eyes and laughed.   “I HAVE NO LICENSE!” Heather said and stepped more on the car. I gulped and started screaming. “Oh my god! STOP THE CAR!” I said and saw Heather furiously driving the car. I hold tightly as we go faster. A couple of minutes passed and I felt like we were starting to slow down. I gradually opened my eyes and I saw Heather driving calmly.   “Jesus Christ Heather! You will kill me! Please don’t drive again if you have no license!” I said and caught my breath. I can’t feel my limbs. I feel like my soul is gone. I saw Heather slowly park the car and as I removed my seatbelt, I felt Heather’s soft touch.   “Can you do me a favor?” Heather said. I gulped and looked at her in disbelief. How many favors does she have?   “What?” I boringly asked and she looked at the back seat.   “Can you take all of that? I can’t take home all the chips and soda, I mean with all the cards? My mom will be hysterical.” She said and laughed. I saw her mom walking towards us and I couldn't do anything but lie. Heather stepped out of the car and I saw her mom smiling at me. I stepped out of the car and smiled at Mrs. Jones.   “Hello, Mrs. Jones,” I said and waved my hands.   “Oh, I just saw Arthur walking so I offered him a ride. Since he has a lot of things with him.” Heather said and looked at me like she wanted me to agree with her.   “Oh yes, I got some groceries with me. Luckily Heather saw me. You raised a really good daughter, Mrs. Jones.” I said and I saw Mrs. Jones smile at me.   “I am glad that Heather helps you.” Mrs. Jones said and looked at Heather.   “Heather, why don’t you help Arthur bring his stuff inside their house? I can see that he has so much to carry with him.” Mrs. Jones and looked at me.   “I will go inside now, just come back immediately ok?” Mrs. Jones added and gave Heather a forehead kiss. We watch her walk inside the door. As soon as she enters, Heather and I can’t help ourselves but laugh.   “We better get some gas.” She said, She started the engine and started driving. How can she pretend nothing happened? Like she didn’t hear what I said. There’s no one talking and all you can hear is silence.   “Can I play a song?” I looked at her and smiled. Heather starts playing some songs and it sets the mood. I feel awkward here. I start to break the silence between us.     “Heather, I didn’t mean to--” I cut my words as I felt that the car suddenly stopped.   “Great! We have no gas left.” Heather said and looked at me.   “I guess we better find some gas station nearby.” She said with a goofy voice. We got out of the car and started walking to find some gasoline station. We walk and walk but the thunder rumbles. We immediately find something where we can go. We can’t go back to the car since we walk far. We found a small shed and we rushed into it.     I look at Heather and she’s looking at me either. She smiled at me and looked away. I can see she’s shivering. It’s really cold but I have to take my hoodie off. I walked towards her and gave her my hoodie. She smiled at me and put my hoodie on. I turned around and took a step away but I paused as I heard Heather.   “A-Arthur.” She said and I looked in her direction and I watched her come closer.   “I’m sorry. For what I did earlier. I am caught off guard.” Heather said and I placed my hand on her head.   “That’s fine. You don't have to like me back. Just let me like you. I swear there’s nothing we should change.” I looked at Heather’s eyes and it was locked in my eyes.   “Just don’t like me. Unlike me, please. That will be so unfair.” Heather protested and I looked at her guilty face.   “Why… I mean why can’t you like me back?” I don’t know what got into me but I feel like I have to let this out of my chest.   “It’s just-- I like you, Arthur. You’re my best friend.” Heather said and my heart stopped. It was shuttered. My world stops as the rain stops pouring. I don’t know what I will do. I feel like I am such a fool and I messed up. I am ruining what we have right now.   “I’m sorry Arthur,” Heather said and started to walk away.   “You can go home and call some grab if you want to.” She added and I smiled at the floor. So this is how the first heartbreak felt. It feels like I can’t feel anything. Just a numb body.   “We will get some gas and go home together,” I utter and hold Heather’s hand. I could see that she wanted to refuse that and I smiled at her.   “Just for friendship… Please... “ I pleaded and weakly smiled at her. I don’t want to lose my yellow. If I can’t get her then I will at least save our friendship.
