Alpha William:
“Alpha William, Luna Kaitlyn has gone into labor.”
I was shocked. She was three weeks early. “Tell Alpha Edward I have important business to attend to.” The maid nodded and left.
I am heading home early. Kaitlyn is in labor, I mind-linked to my Beta.
I ran to the exit and shifted into my wolf form the second I was outside.
The ranking had just ended resulting in me earning the fourth spot among the Alphas. It was rude to leave the Alpha Summit early, but King Edward would understand.
Every five years there is a three day Summit of Alphas hosted by the King of Alphas, Edward Markoff. The first day there is an Alpha only meeting for business discussions, which included territory lines, alliance contracts, rogue attack concerns, supplies needs, and training programs.
The second day consisted of a formal dinner for all ranking members to socialize and engage with members of other packs.
Team building activities and rankings are the focus on the last day. There are group challenges and several competitions, each giving points to the winners. The points are then counted and the ranks are given based on performance.
You can tell the ranking of a pack by the color in there title. The top pack is silver, which is held by the pack that the King of Alphas rules directly. Gold goes to the second, followed by white. Blue is where my pack now ranks at number four. The fifth pack is red. The sixth is black, ending with the last pack, which is not given a color.
The summit was created centuries ago after the Great War ended. The Great War began when seven of the soldiers created a rebellion against King Marcus. They no longer wanted to follow the rule of the King. He had become bitter and strict, only doing what was right for himself and not his kingdom.
The seven men ban together to overthrow King Marcus. But his strength was too great. After months of battle, the men were enslaved and thrown in the dungeon to rot away.
It is said that the Moon Goddess saw what happened during the war. She waited, hoping the King would change his mind and release the seven men.
She wanted him to become the strong, yet kind ruler the kingdom needed, but he became savage. King Marcus no longer trusted any of his followers. Any offense, whether small or large was seen as a direct up rise towards him. Countless peasants were executed.
He was on guard at all times. He barely ate, believing that his food was poisoned. He lived on wine and locked himself in his chambers. The lack of food weakened him to the point that he was nothing but skin and bones.
He slept very little and began hallucinating. He saw the ghost of the people that he executed. King Marcus could be heard yelling at things that were not there. He wielded his sword at apparitions, breaking vases and slicing into furniture. The king could no longer look in the mirror without seeing the faces of the men that haunted him.
After a few years of his behavior he slowly withered away. King Marcus was too weak to even shift into his wolf form. He laid alone in his deathbed, too weak to move.
The Moon Goddess ascended down to him. She asked him if he questioned his choices. He insisted that he was the greatest King, no other could rule better that him. With sorrow in her eyes the Moon Goddess watched as he took his last breath.
She released the seven men from the dungeon. The Goddess infused each one with thier lost strength and the blood of an Alpha. The land was divided into seven territories, each ruled by one of the Alphas.
She left a prophecy, a child destined to be strong and fair would be fated to become the King of Alphas. They would be chosen by her, infused with her power. The chosen child would be born with silver eyes.
The Pack he was born into will reign over the others until a new King is born, then the new territory would reign. No one pack will have total control over the others, and the King will never be cruel.
The Summit was created to keep peace among the Alphas that ruled the land. There was competition with the ranking, but it was more of a way to display the strength of your pack.
I have spent several years training to gain a higher rank among the packs, and now I must work harder than ever. I now have a pup I can train to one day take my place.
It was a miracle from the Goddess. Kaitlyn had been told that she could not have any children. After years of praying to the Goddess and giving her many offerings, we we’re blessed.
When I arrived, Kaitlyn did not have the baby yet. “You made it,” she said with with a smile.
“I wouldn’t miss this for anything, my Love.”
“Luna Kaitlyn, it’s time,” the Doctor said.
She took my hand, squeezing tight, and began to push. After much time I could tell she was exhausted.
“You are almost there. Just a little more,” I coaxed, hoping to give her strength.
“Okay. Let’s meet our baby.” She gave me a smile before giving her final push.
The Doctor looked at the baby, shocked. “Alpha William. The child…”
“Darling, can we raise this child to follow in your steps,” Kaitlyn asked, concerned.
We never expected the birth of a child such as this, but as our only child the plan should not change.
“Yes. I will raise our only child to become the Alpha that takes my place. The child has Alpha blood, regardless. They are born for this. The Moon Goddess would not bless us if she believed it couldn’t be done. The child will be named Alpha. No one can deny their birthright.”
5 Years Later…
“Come on! You need to fight better than that if you’re going to be Alpha someday.”
My child had grown stronger each day. I could see the determination in their eyes, as they tried to punch the bag harder.
“Come on! Faster. You are born to be an Alpha. Act like it!”
“Yes, Father.”
A few more combinations and the child was starting to pick up speed. I was impressed by thier resolve.
“Yes! That’s it! Faster!”
The smacks on the bag increased.
“Just a little faster! You got it!”
“Don’t push Alpha too hard, Dear,” my Luna interrupted. She often worried, but knew the strict training was necessary for our child to succeed.
“It’s okay, Mom. I’m not even tired!” The stamina on this kid was astounding!
“Okay. One more hour of training, then go clean up for dinner,” Kaitlyn said before turning to head to the kitchen.
“Try the new combinations we worked on today.” The smacking on the bag continued. “That’s right! Just like that. Don’t lose that speed.”
5 Years Later…
“It’s time to train in your wolf form, now that you are able to control your shifting.”
“But Dad, it hurts so much. I don’t like shifting,” Alpha complained.
As our human forms expanded and our bones cracked to form our wolf bodies, it caused pain. It was like your body was ripping apart. Every muscle tensed and twisted, stretching into the proper shape. It took a lot of practice shifting before the pain would be barely noticeable.
“It will only hurt for a few seconds. Hurry up. You have to train in your wolf form too.”
They looked down, clenching their fists and gritting their teeth in pain. Every muscled contracted until their body began to shift. I heard their yelps, as their bones began to bend. Their was a few whimpers before the healing was complete and their reddish brown wolf stood there proudly.
“Good job!” I shifted into my wolf. “Can you hear me,” I mind-linked. Alpha nodded. “Let’s go for a run. See if you can keep up.”
I was faster of course, but for their first run at top speed, my child had great stamina.
We ran to the highest point in the territory.
The shock on my child’s wolf was wonderful. The land we rule is beautiful, with waterfalls and lush woods. Looking at the view from the peak was like looking at heaven.
“This is the land that we rule. Down there are all the wolves that we protect. It is our job to keep them safe. No matter what, we must put the pack first. Always remember that.”
“What if I’m not strong enough to keep everyone safe?”
“Many will doubt your capabilities, my child. But the most important thing is that you don’t question yourself. Once you let doubt into your mind, you have already lost the battle. Many will challenge you. They won’t believe you can lead a pack, but if you believe in yourself, and are ready to take on any challenge that arises, you have already become worthy.”
“I understand. I will protect our land and our people. I won’t let anyone stop me!”
3 Years Later…
“Dad, Why is mom making me learn about etiquette and waltzing. Why would I need to know which one is the salad fork? And who cares about dancing?”
I chuckled. They were a chip off the old block. I never cared for such things myself, but Kaitlyn felt they had there place in pack politics. “How will you find a mate at the Mating Ball if you don’t know how to dance?”
The Mating Ball happened once a year at the Alpha King’s castle. All unmated wolves eighteen and older attended to find their mate. It was a tradition among all of the Packs.
“I don’t need a mate. I’m strong enough to rule on my own!”
“Have you beaten Saphir during your training,” I asked, knowing that my Beta’s son was still stronger.
“He’s such a jerk. He doesn’t think I can become Alpha!”
“How can you be Alpha if you can’t even beat your own Beta during training.” I received a scoff as they stormed off.
“Where are you going?”
“I’m going to keep training until I can beat Saphir!”
I chuckled. My child was a determined one.
2 Years Later..
I just arrived home from the Alpha Summit. I could hear the clashing of swords. Saphir was helping my heir train while I was away.
“I know you’re faster than that. Don’t hold back! Would you go easy on a rogue if they attacked you.”
With Saphir’s comment, their swords began to clash and slice through the air faster. Unless you had the hyper-focus of a werewolves eyes, you would not be able to see the blades.
Again the blades increased in speed. My child looked fierce with their clenched teeth and focused eyes. I could see the veins popping from their muscles as they moved as fast as possible.
With one more thrust, the sword was knocked out of Saphirs hands, landing in the palm of my child. “I guess you need to practice more,” Alpha said with a laugh.
I clapped my hands, drawing attention from both of them. All the training seemed to be working. Alpha grew stronger by the day.
“Father, you’re home!”
“I’m afraid I have some bad news, my child.”
“What’s wrong,” Alpha asked with wide eyes.
“The Blue Sun pack is no more…” Alpha’s eyes showed disbelief. “We now rank as the White Sun. You’re going to have to work even harder if you want to be Alpha someday.”
Alpha smiled and nodded. “Yes, Father. I will do my best!”
2 Years Later..
“Do you need anything, my Love,” Kaitlyn asked as I laid on our bed. I have been growing weaker for months now. I got sick and my energy has gradually been draining. I could barely sit myself up in bed at this point.
“Bring Alpha to me. We have some important things to discuss.” With tears in her eyes, my Luna nodded. We both knew when I passed, my mate would as well, leaving our child alone.
If one mate passed, the other soon followed because of the bond. When a marking happened and the mating ritual takes place it intertwines the souls. When one ceased to exist, so did the other.
My child stood at the door. I could tell Alpha was fighting tears, trying to be strong. “It’s okay to cry, Alpha. It is a sad occasion, but once the tears have stopped you need to move forward. Can you do that?”
They nodded slowly as the tears rolled down their cheeks.
“Come here.” Walking slowly Alpha approach me and sat at the edge of the bed. “It will soon be my time to leave this world and join the Moon Goddess.”
“I don’t want you and Mom to leave.”
“It’s okay. We will be here in spirit. I know you have what it takes to protect the pack. It is your birthright. The Moon Goddess would not leave you alone if she thought you couldn’t handle it.”
“I will protect the White Sun Pack. Not just for my people, but for you too.” I could see the determination in my child’s eyes once again. My child is strong. I have no reason to question their capabilities.
“I believe in you, Alpha. I have never doubted that you will be my successor. Never doubt yourself. Any challenge that you face take on with your head held high.”
“I promise, to you, Mom, and the Moon Goddess herself, I will never let anything stop me from protecting my pack.” I smiled when I saw the fire in my child’s eyes. The White Sun Pack will be in good hands. I can pass knowing that my child can handle anything, because I raised a strong Alpha.
