Chapter fourteen - Who had it?

2735 Words
Dylan's POV: I tried to get close to Loren for the past couple of days. I know it's hard for her, but I want to do it. Jackson and I talked about it. He started making fun of me that I was falling for her. I want to deny it, but I can't. Well, I'm not sure that it's true. The thing is that I like spending time with her. Loren can be funny as long as she is calm. That is something I have to make sure will happen. I thought of going out with her, Jackson and Alice. If she is with her best friend, Loren might feel more comfortable. The question is where we'll go and what we'll do. That is something I haven't thought of before. Also, I have to go and make a new necklace with my dog. I have turned my room upside down twice and didn't find it. I probably lost it at the party. Sadly, I can't go and search for it. The house got cleaned weeks ago. Also, I don't want to explain what I have done. There is a chance that I gave it to someone. Even if it has happened, it's too late. This person has probably thrown it away. That is a cheap thing, but it means something to me. I need to forget about that. I should talk with Jackson about my plan. No one knows what is happening between him and Alice. I know he likes spending time with her. I'm sure he would like to help me. Honestly, I never thought of Loren as more than a friend. I would like to know her opinion about it. The problem is that she might think I am inviting her on a date. It's better if I don't ask her. I want to get close to her. The thing is that she probably won't let me. I have known Loren since we came to high school. With the years, she became even shyer. Well, I like that. She is cute when she is nervous. I hope that she will overcome that and will be herself around people. Currently, I am in my room. I texted Jackson to come here. We don't spend much time together. That's why I want to make up for that. I know he won't want to stay at home the whole day. He likes going outside. I wonder when he will ask Alice out. It's visible that he likes her. Maybe I shouldn't mess with this. I have my things to worry about right now. I took my phone and found the same picture of the dog. I mean, the one I had on my necklace. Honestly, I'm still mad at myself for losing it. Well, I can't do anything. I walked out of my room and went for food. As a boy, I get hungry often. You can see me going for snacks a couple of times a day. That happens when I am at home. In school, I don't have time for this. I made myself some toast and put whatever I found on top. That is delicious. Soon, my parents joined me. It looks like they have been outside. Mom pulled out an envelope and gave it to me. I looked at her, curious. I didn't order anything. Neither someone sent me something. - What is that? - I don't know. It got addressed to you. - Ok, I'll open it when I finish eating. That didn't last much. I wanted to know what was inside. When I opened it, I was left speechless. No way. How? I was looking for it everywhere, and now it's here. I took it out and looked at it. - Dylan, what is that? - dad asked - I found it! - What? How was it in this envelope? - mom asked - I probably gave it to someone. - Isn't there a note or something? - Let me check. Yes, there is. - Read it. - I'm sorry I give it back to you this way. If you don't know what happened, it will be better. You gave me this at the party. I don't know when. I know you have questions, but keep them to yourself. I don't want to talk about this. I'm sorry I gave it back so late. I had no idea it was yours. Please don't ask how I found out. - At least you got it back. - dad said - I want to know who gave me this. - It looks like he doesn't want you to know. - It's a girl. I know it. - Honey, there are many girls. How will you find out which one is it? - I don't know. Soon the door opened, and Jackson walked it. He sat down and looked at me. I noticed how my best friend looked at the envelope and the note. I think he knows something. It's time to find out. - Jackson, are you ok? - Yes. - Look, I got it back. - Great. Where did you find it? - Someone sent it to me. - No way. She did not! - Do you know who had it? - No comment. - Jackson, you better tell me what you know. - Ok, ok. You gave it to a girl at the party. She doesn't know when. - Won't you tell me who she is? - You know her. Well. - Man, I know many girls. After all, I go to school every day. - True, but this girl is a bit different from the rest. - Won't you tell me? Hold on. Is it? - Yes. - It was Loren, right? - Yes, it was. I don't know what happened, but I saw Loren wearing it. - Wait a minute! She was wearing it. - Yes. I saw Loren in school. She had no clue what had happened. I have to say that she wasn't happy to hear this was yours. - This means that Loren and I. Oh, no. - What? - I think I know what happened at the party and how I gave it to her. - Sh*t! - Yep. I have to talk to her. - Did you read the note? Don't tell her that you know from me. - Don't worry. The note itself is enough proof. - What is the plan for the day? - I thought we could go out with the girls. Maybe Loren will feel calmer if Alice is with her. - You want to talk with her, don't you? - No, I thought of it for the last couple of days. - Ok, then. I'll text Alice. After an hour, all of us went for lunch. Alice was next to Jackson, so I had to be with Loren. She was feeling uncomfortable. Jackson and I went for drinks. I made a sign for Alice to sit with Loren. Luckily, she understood me. Soon we came back with them. Loren was on her phone with her head down. I feel like she is not in the mood. I'm not sure, but she looks upset. It's better if I don't ask. - I am so hungry. - Alice said - Didn't you have breakfast? - Jackson asked - No. I woke up late and decided to skip it. - Don't worry. Soon the food will come. - Loren, are you ok? - Yes. Can you move? I want to go to the bathroom. - Yes, sure. You can go. - Thanks. - She is upset. - I said - I know. I noticed it on the way here. She didn't say anything. - I'm surprised that she came here. - Jackson said - I went to pick her up. Let's say I know how to make her do what I want. - Good for you. - I'll go to the toilet. Is there a male one? - I think so. - Alice said - Thanks. I walked to the toilet. Finally, here is clean. Some restaurants don't know what cleaning products mean. When I walked out, I saw a woman that came out of the women's bathroom. - Excuse me. - Yes? - Was there a girl inside? - The toilet? - Yes. - No, it was empty. - There was no one. - When I walked in, no. I was the only one. Do you need something? - One friend walked in. Thanks. - No problem. - Loren is gone. - I said, going back to my table - What? I will kill her. - Alice said - No, leave her alone. - Why did she leave us? - I don't know. - I will talk with her later. Now, I want to enjoy my food. - Do you think about anything else? - Jackson asked - If you mean boys and beauty, no. - I need to take notes. - my best friend said, chuckling - You better do it. I won't repeat it. - Yes, miss. After lunch, we went for a walk. I texted Loren, but there was no response. I don't think she will talk to me. It's better if I leave her alone for now. The thing is that I don't want to. I want to help her as much as I can. Hey, it's me again. You can talk to me. I don't know what's wrong, but I don't like when you are upset. I prefer the funny Loren. Please, answer me. I'm getting worried. I'm sorry I left. I didn't want to go outside. I don't feel well today. Please, don't ask me anything. I don't want to talk about it. It's ok. I understand. Call me when you feel better. Ok, I will. Thank you :) You're welcome. - Man, is everything ok? - Yes. I was texting Loren. - And? - Nothing. She didn't want to talk. - I will go and find out what is going on later. I told Alice and Jackson that I had to go home. The thing is that I wanted to visit Loren. I walked to her house, and one woman opened it. That probably is her mom. I asked if Loren was here, but she told me she had two sons. I am confused. After a couple of seconds, I understood what had happened. Loren gave the wrong address. Technically, she pointed to a house, but it wasn't hers. She probably lives somewhere here, but I can't knock on every door and ask for her. I wanted to text Alice for the address, but I gave up. Since Loren gave the wrong address, she probably doesn't want me in her house. In that case, I can go home. - Hi, mom. - Hey, honey. Are you ok? - Not really. - Why? What happened? - I went to visit someone. Sadly, they gave me the wrong address. - Is this someone a girl? - Maybe. - She probably misspelled the number. - No. I walked the girl home one night. She pointed to one house, and I thought it was hers. That's why I went there today. - I'm sorry. Can't you call this girl? - I texted her before that. She was with Jackson, Alice and me. - Is it that girl Loren? - Yes. We went for lunch, but Loren left without telling us. I think she was upset, but I don't know why. - Maybe something happened. - I don't know. That's why I texted Loren. She didn't tell me anything. I wanted to see her. I don't know where she lives. - Don't push her. I'm sure when she is ready, Loren will tell you everything. - I feel like I'm not wanted. - Dylan, that's not true. You have to understand that not every girl will walk after you. - my mom said, chuckling - It's not funny. - Look at it from the bright side. You like a girl, and now you should show it to her. - I never said I liked her. - There is no need to do it. I see it. - I have to disappoint you. It's not what you think. Also, Loren is too shy for me. - It doesn't look like you have a problem with that. Stop making excuses and admit the obvious. Everyone knows it except you. - Mom, I don't like her! - Keep saying it until you believe it. - I love you, but sometimes you can be annoying. - That's part of my job as a parent. I love you too. - You are unbelievable. - Thank you for the compliment, sweetie. - Why was I born? - Because I love your dad enough to give him a present. - That's not what I meant, but ok. - I said, chuckling I talked with my mom for a while. She is right about one thing. I like Loren, but I don't feel ready to admit it. Mostly I mean to her. I'm not sure what her reaction will be. After all, I don't want to stress her. This girl is already nervous around me. I don't want to imagine what will happen if I tell her this. For now, I will keep things between us friendly. When dinner was ready, I went to eat. - It looks delicious. - Thank you, honey. - How was your day? - dad asked - It was good. I didn't do much. - I thought you would be happy. - Why? - You got the dog necklace back. - Oh, I am. The thing is that I am getting flashbacks from the party. I don't think I will go again. - Hey, people learn from their mistakes. - Mine were a lot. The main one is that I got drunk. - Everyone has done it at least once in their lives. - Even you? - Yes. How do you think I stole your mom's first kiss? - Um, I don't want to know more. - Well, we won't tell you everything. - It's a weird question, but why is there a video zone picture of me in a frame in your room? It has been there for years. - Yeah, about that. Should we tell him? - He is old enough to know. - mom said - To know what? - Honey, the baby in the picture is not you. - What? Then who is it? - Your aborted brother. - I don't get it. - So your mom and I had fun one night. She got pregnant, but your granny, her mom, didn't like it. That's why she had to abort it. - Hold on! How old were you? - Sixteen. - mom said - What? Isn't this illegal? - Have you heard of teen pregnancy? - Yes, but I never believed in it. - Back then, we didn't have as many things as we do now. Having a baby was going to be hard for us. - Did you ever want a second baby? - No, but I wanted a boy. - Oh, you are lucky, then. - I said, chuckling - I am. Whatever you do, think first. - Don't worry. I don't plan to have contacts like my dad did at my age. Also, with her, it will be hard. - So you admit it? - Admit what? - dad asked - Yes. I like Loren. Please, don't say anything. - I'm happy for you. The rest of the night I spend talking with my parents. It turned out they were one crazy couple with lots of hormones. I am nothing like them. I don't do the same things as them when they have been teenagers. Maybe I fell for the wrong girl. Honestly, I don't know how it happened so fast. I started talking with Loren this year, but something in her made me look at her differently. She is not Loren The Nerd. I like this girl. The thing is that I don't know if I should tell her. It's better if I wait for a while. Now, as I am thinking, maybe I should give her back the necklace. Since I gave it to her, I must have meant something, even if I was drunk. I hope that she will accept it.
