Chapter Fifty-Two: DespairPresent day As Raven's eyelids became heavy and his mind slipped into the dark abyss of sleep, the last thing he heard was the chiming of the clock outside. He awoke hours later feeling cold and stiff, stretching out and wincing as he his joints cracked from disuse. He longed for space to move properly, to run. He longed for fresh, clean air to make him feel awake again, but most of all, he wanted to see the light, to see anything but the unbearable darkness which numbed his senses. He slumped back to the floor feeling dejected and was struck by a gnawing hunger in the pit of his stomach. For three days now he had eaten merely one small portion of tasteless soup and stiff bread.
