Chapter eighteen

Jessie's POV

I woke up to the sound of someone sobbing, I knew it was Tricia because we always share the room when we're visiting each other. It allows us to catch up real fast. I followed the sound to the balcony and found her curled up n a chair

" he wants to take my baby, I told him to give me some time so I can help hope adjust but he wouldn't budge. he called me threatening to take me to court if don't give her to him." she sobbed even more

" I think there is no reason you two can't reach an agreement about this, and it's normal for you to be reluctant to give him a chance to meet Hope because he didn't want to have anything to do with her in the first place. And if he comes threatening with the law then we will have to retaliate, we are in this together never forget that" I tell her as put her head on my legs

" I know" she answered simply

" How does hope feel about this? I know she's only six but you should consider her too"

" she had been asking about her dad but then last week she overhead him yelling at me over the phone, now she's protective of me she thinks her dad is a monster. I never meant to turn her against him I swear, I've been trying to smooth things up a bit"

"I know you're trying, come on now let's go get some sleep we have a great day ahead of us. And don't you worry about Mark, we'll know how to handle that one if crosses our way" I said and ushered her back to bed. Tricia is one of the strongest women I know, it's very rare to see her breakdown like that. What I don't get is why Mark wants the kid now after rejecting her six years ago, he didn't want anything to with them because he wasn't ready to have a child just yet, he even moved away to another town and said he didn't want to see them again.

The next morning we got up and ready to head out

" you think Hope should come to stay here with us for a while?" I asked Tricia as we were coming out of the house

" no, I think she's fine where she is, there is no way he's going to take her if he can't locate her"

" Yeah, I guess, who's that?" I asked as I reached into my purse to fetch my phone and dialed Cades number

" cade, who is that coming in?"

" he said he is a friend of Tricia and that she was expecting him" he explained

" Cade come and get this man out of my house" I commanded

"yes boss"

"What do you think he wants?" Tricia asked as we watched the man get of the car

" I think we'll know what he wants, we just have to make sure he doesn't get it too easily," I said as we waited for him to reach us

" good morning" Mark greeted

" Good morning Mark how can we help you?" I said holding my head up as he kept striding towards us

" can I have a word with you, Tricia?"

" well, go-ahead I'm listening, or are you only brave enough to throw insults my way when no one is listening?" by that time Cade and his crew had arrived and were on stand by

" oh well, you see this is my lawyer I brought him here so you can sign total custody of Hope over to me. seeing as the last time I left you were not financially stable enough to take care of anyone even yourself it wouldn't be so hard convincing them to sign these

" I see someone hasn't done their homework, I'm not the same naive girl you left six years ago, I run my own Cooperation now and if you think you can intimidate me with a few papers and an incompetent lawyer then you are more stupid than I even thought," she said "and from now onwards every communication should be done through our lawyers. if I can remember very well you filed a restriction order against me and my baby, you better stick to your end of the bargain" Tricia said then took my hand and pulled me forward " excuse me, I have more important things to do and concentrate on. Cade make sure this excuse of a man leaves this place" we got in the car and drive off, I was still dumbstruck by what happened I know she was putting on a strong front but I knew she was hurting from the inside

" are you alright?" I asked

" yeah, I just need to get some fresh air do you mind if get some coffee first before can start shopping?"

" sure, anything you want, are you sure you still want to go shopping? we can conceal if you can't you know we can always come back some other time"

" no, I won't let him get the better of me, he won't ruin my day. you know what I don't think I need that coffee anymore"

" Okay, let's get the party started!" I squirmed and dragged her into a shoe store. it might sound obtuse but we enjoyed shopping like every other girl, we always made sure we made time for it. It can be refreshing and therapeutic sometimes.

" I love that dress" Tricia pointed at a boutique at our right

" mm you would look sexy in that"

" Yeah, I should get one in red, black, and maybe blue. what do you think?" she asked

" I think you should add white too"

" Not unless you are also getting them"

" sure why not? I'm going to rock it at work"
