Callie’s POV
“I’m bored, let’s go shopping!” Sarah said, again.
I sighed and threw up my hands. I closed the book I was reading and stood up. “You win, just let me put on a pair of shoes. Knowing you, we will be there for a few hours.”
Sarah grinned at me and then rolled her eyes. “I knew you would see the light.”
I laughed as she said that and pulled on my shoes. I know that she has inherited her mother’s gift, but she is not as strong a psychic as Aunt Leah is.
“You should tell your parents we’re going to the mall; I don’t want to be blamed for leading you astray.” I said and then quickly tied my hair into a pony tail. Once I was satisfied that there were no lumps or bumps I motioned for Sarah to get out of my room.
“I already mind-linked my dad, he said I should take care of you.”
“Funny, he told me the same thing.”
Sarah pouted and then laughed. She was never one of those girly girls or stuck up brats. She was also very down to earth and very fun to be with. That is one of the main reasons why we have been able to remain such good friends throughout the years, even though I am a little older than her.
Just as I slid my phone into my pocket I felt it vibrate. I slipped it out again and saw it was a message from Alex.
In town for a few days. Want to meet up tonight? Alex
I smiled at the message and then immediately replied.
Sure, let’s meet at Blake’s at 10pm. Cal
Sarah and I walked out of the pack house and got into her white BMW that was parked in the garage. She had just pulled out of the drive way when my phone vibrated again.
Perfect, wear something sexy. Alex
I made the mistake of giggling out loud and then looking up to see Sarah staring at me with her one eyebrow raised. I just shook my head and told her to focus on the road.
I had met Alex three years ago when I decided to sneak out of the boarding school with two other girls. We ended up at a club and I was dancing when all of a sudden Alex was in front of me and he had this huge grin on his face.
He told me he knew I was underage, but that didn’t matter because his father owned the club.
Later that night when the girls and I were about to leave he gave us a lift back to the school. A month later we had a dance with the boarding school for boys. I met Alex again and realized it was his final year. Needless to say we danced and joked around the whole night. After that we have been really great friends, but never anything more than that. You see there is a reason for that and that is because Alex is a warlock and I told him everything about my mate.
When I returned two years ago after finding out that Chase was sleeping around I was devastated and if it wasn’t for Alex I might have committed suicide. He was like my older brother while I was in London. Now Alex is making a living as an Artist.
“Tell me, who is he?” Sarah asked.
I must have had a dreamy expression on my face or I was spaced out longer than I thought because we were almost at the mall .
“He’s a friend I made in London. We are going to meet up tonight.” I replied keeping my voice in a monotone.
Sarah rolled her eyes. “He must be some friend if he had you spaced out for most of this journey;” the mall is almost an hour away from the pack house. as I simply replied “I know.”
By the time we got to the mall, Sarah forgot all about our little talk and was focused on buying a cocktail dress and shoes for the party she and Jayden will be hosting for the Alphas and the Betas and their mates on Saturday.
“I was thinking of wearing something simple and red. Not a whorish red, but more of an eloquent, sexy red.” Sarah babbled as we entered her favorite boutique.
Knowing Sarah she wouldn’t need much help so I was looking around for a dress for myself. I was running my finger across an array of dresses when suddenly stopped. I looked at the midnight blue dress my finger stopped on and just knew it would be perfect for me. It shimmered, but not too much and had one sleeve and looked like it was cut diagonally so that it started from a little more than below mid-thigh and ended just above the ankle. I held it against me and looked
at it in the mirror. It looked absolutely stunning and I loved the way it brought out my red hair and violet eyes.
I dyed my hair before coming home and I loved the color it was now. I didn’t care what people thought when they saw me. The color suited me, better than it would most of the others in my pack.
I looked at the price tag and knew that there was no way in hell I was going to spend so much on the dress. Yes I have money in my bank account, but I was saving it for college. I have not told my parents yet, but I will only be home for a year before I go to college.
“I hope you plan on buying that dress.” The masculine voice startled me and I nearly tripped when I turned around and saw Killian in front of me.
“You gave me a fright.” I scolded him and frowned when I saw him laughing at me.
“I am sorry; you just look so adorable right now.” Killian said. “So are you going to buy that dress or not?”
“The answer is not, this dress won’t look good on me.” I lied and put the dress back where I found it.
“Right, so will I be seeing you at the cocktail to?” Killian asked.
“Yes, Sarah will kill me if I am not there.”
Speak of the devil and she will appear.
“You got that right.” Sarah said and she held a beautiful red dress over her arms. She extended a hand to Killian and smiled at him. “I am Sarah, and you are?”
Killian looked at me before answering Sarah. He took hold of her hand, “I am Killian.”
Realization dawned on Sarah’s face. “Oh, I know you. I hope I will be seeing you at the cocktail.”
“I will be there. If you two ladies will excuse me I should get going.” Killian faced me again and looked at me like I was the only one in the boutique. “It was good to see you again, Callie.”
“You too.”
I watched as he walked out and turned around only to see Sarah glaring at me.
“Me and you have a lot to talk about.”
I sighed and just shook my head yes.
It is true, we do have a lot to talk about but there is only so much I will be able to tell her.
Sarah and I looked around the boutique a bit more till we found a simple black cocktail dress that was within my budget. I got a pair of silver high heels to go with it. I hated that I couldn’t get the dress I wanted, but I have my future to think about.
Sarah and I got home to a fuming Jayden and not to mention my dad and Uncle Caleb looked extremely upset as well.
“Where were you?” My father asked.
“I was at the mall with Sarah. Why you look so angry? Did something happen?” I asked beginning to worry; I made it look like I was panicking. My father could not know that I have learnt to put my emotions aside when I needed to.
My father saw the panic because his expression changed and he pulled me in for a hug.
“No honey, nothing happened I was just worried about you girls and when I couldn’t get through to you through the mind-link I panicked. Not to mention I couldn’t reach you or Sarah on your cells and no one could mind-link with Sarah either.” My father said and I saw that Uncle Caleb was more than worried. He really did think that something had happened to us.
It is my entire fault that they thought that. I can block out all communications. I have been doing it for so long that I didn’t even realize when I was doing it. I had learnt to put up a psychic block that is practically impenetrable. Countless times Alex has tried to get into mind or hypnotize me but it has never worked. Even his father tried and he is a renowned hypnotist.
“I am so sorry.” I said and made sure to apologize to Uncle Caleb as well. Since Sarah was with me, I subconsciously extended my field for the psychic block and included her in it, hence why no one could contact her.
I ran up to my room and stayed there crying on my bed, childish I know. I had my reasons though; I have isolated myself from almost everyone. I am a werewolf in a pack and yet I am no better than a rogue. Today something could have happened to Sarah and me and no one would have known or had been able to help just because I blocked our communications to the pack unconsciously.
I heard my room door open and felt my bed tip a bit as someone sat down. A hand ran through my hair and I heard my mother’s soothing voice. “It’s okay you know.”
“No it’s not. I have complete control over all of my gifts, but I use them so unconsciously. Something bad could have happened.” I cried and then lifted my head up and moved a little closer to my mom so that I could lay my head on her lap as she ran her fingers through my hair.
“You are so strong. You have gifts that I don’t have and you have more control over them than I ever did.” She whispered. “Nothing bad happened today and nothing bad will ever happen. I know you Callie, you are a fighter and a flippant great one at that.“
I laughed when she said that and then stayed silent. We were like that for a few minutes when I finally fell asleep and entered into a dream of a memory that I wish I could forget.
“Remember Callie, no powers or super human strength.” Alex told me.
We were kidn*pped by a bunch of human hunters and as much as I wanted to rip their heads off I couldn’t. I had a debt to pay. Alex and I had to steal something without killing anyone of these idiots or letting them figure out that we are anything but human. They were doing some experiments and we had to get a vile of what they were experimenting on humans with.
I felt someone drive a silver knife into my back and screamed out loud. They tied me to a wall and my clothes were ripped. This was part of my training. Never paid a dime for it, but now I realized that there was always a debt to be paid. My debt was only decided on at the end of the training.
For four day I went with no food or water, the humans had been so careful for some reason.
They brought in a girl and r***d her in front of me. They continuously r***d her till she died. I couldn’t take it anymore I wanted to kill those bastards. Alex wanted to kill them too, but I pushed my emotions aside. I had to die in order to live and that is exactly what that debt taught me. Emotions are weaknesses that a warrior cannot have and as the granddaughter of the moon goddess I was destined for greatness. At least that is what everyone thought.
On the fourth day I was released from being tied up against the wall, and although I was badly injured, bloody, tired, hungry and thirsty I managed to harm and injure each and every one of the men, with Alex’s help and without using any of my gifts or werewolf strength I fought like a human and won, but I was never the same. They managed to inject me with whatever it was they were experimenting with on the humans they kidn*pped.
I managed to retrieve samples and returned home, back to the boarding school.
After that I was never the same, it took months for me to learn how to act normal again. Something changed in me and only Alex and the few close friends I had knew about it.
My mother is right, I am a fighter. She just doesn’t know how screwed up I am. My first and only mission as a human really did a number on me and I still have a few scars to prove it.
After that mission many other things happened. The professor from the secret academy I attended had to help me to control my dark impulses. They found a rare mineral and spelled it for seven days and seven nights, it now works as seal to control my powers.
Chase’s POV
I watched as Callie ran her fingers over the dresses and then held the midnight blue one against her. She would look so beautiful in it, when it looked like she was going to look my way I walked away and looked for a place where she would not be able to notice me. I waited till after she left the shoe boutique and the jewelry store. I waited until she left the food court and then walked out of the mall with Sarah. She was having fun and I hated that I was not the one that was making her laugh.
Once Callie was gone, I went back to the boutique to buy the dress, but when I searched the rails I could not find it.
I walked towards the sales person, maybe I was just looking in the wrong place.
“Excuse me,” I said and smiled at the young girl in front of me and looked at her name tag that was pinned to her white shirt. “Catherine, I was wondering if you still have that midnight blue dress that I saw earlier. It only has one sleeve, it is my friend’s birthday and I want to buy her something that will put all the other gifts to shame.”
Catherine looked a little down when I mentioned the dress, but then her eyes sparkled when I mentioned it was just for a friend. I didn’t want her to lie to me or ruin the dress.
“I am sorry sir, but that dress was bought two hours ago. I can show you a few of our other gowns that are similar to the one you mentioned.” Catherine said. “I am sure we can find something at the back.” She purred and leaned over a bit, showing her cleavage.
If I was not trying to win Callie back, I might not have had so many reservations about screwing this girl right now. Then again, Callie hates my guts and she is nowhere in this mall. There is no way she will find out about this.
I smiled at Catherine, “let’s go take a look then.”
Killian’s POV
“Why can’t I get her out of my mind?” Callie.
Her name is just as beautiful as she is, and as corny as that sounds it is true. She has captivated me from the very first moment I met her and she has been running through my mind for days now.
When I saw her at the mall, I just had to be with her. I walked away from my Beta and right into the boutique. I was not thinking about what I was doing I just needed to be with him. Things are getting a little too messed up for me at the moment, and I hate it. I have no control over my thoughts and I am messing things up at the pack house.
Julian, my Beta, suggested we go out and maybe go clubbing afterwards. I decided to go, and am so glad that I did. When I saw Callie everything stopped for me.
The one thing I cannot stop thinking about is that kiss that we shared. It was absolutely amazing. She is absolutely amazing.
When Julian said we should go get something to eat I told him to go on ahead of me there was something I needed to do.
I went back to the boutique and bought that dress I saw Callie admiring. I knew she was lying to me, she really wanted the dress and I wanted to buy it for her.
I walked back to the food court and when Julian saw the bag from the boutique he raised his eyebrow at me and smirked.
“Dude, if I didn’t know any better I would say that girl has you whipped.” Julian said and then took a bite from his burger.
“I am starting to think so too.” I whispered and then ate the burger and chips that Julian got for me.
Pushing Callie from my mind is going to be a mission and a half.
Elijah’s POV
Skye got out of the shower and walked over to our bed, she looked a little worried.
“How is Callie doing?” I asked Skye, a little upset that Skye wouldn’t let me go to Callie and talk to her.
“She is okay, she was crying. I am not exactly sure why she was so upset. ” Skye lifted up the blanket and then got into bed. She laid her head down on my chest. “Something is wrong Elijah.
Callie has suffered and none of us know what she has been through.”
I had to agree with Skye. Callie has changed. There is something going on with her that she won’t let anyone know.
That night we had her welcome home party she looked extremely upset before she spoke to
Chase. I saw them go into the pack house together.
I wonder what happened between the two of them, maybe they just had a little fight and that is why Callie is like this now.
Tomorrow I will have to go and have a talk with Chase. I might not be Alpha anymore, but Callie is my daughter and I have the right to make sure everything is well between them. I let Skye in on my thoughts.
She looked up at me and nodded her head.
“I want to be the one to talk to him tomorrow.” Skye said.
I shook my head no. “Forget it, you went up to speak to Callie and told me to leave her alone.”
Skye smiled and then kissed my chin. “Fine, we are both going tomorrow. Goodnight.”
I knew there was no arguing with Skye. Once she has made up her mind there was no way for me to change it. That is one thing that Callie has in common with her. They are both so stubborn and they always want to fight by themselves.
I was thinking of the day Jayden was born and then Callie. The last thought I had was of the day Jayden and Callie found their mates.
Once Callie and Chase saw each other and knew they were mates. I wanted to shout and then rip off Chase’s head.
My little girl was just seven and had found her mate. It was ridiculous. For the rest of the day, we couldn’t separate them long enough to talk to them alone.
I said something that upset Skye, so she forced me to give the children, Jayden and Sarah included, a child friendly talk about mates. Even though they were not eighteen yet, the only reason they found their mates at such a young age was because of whom they are and the gifts they possess.
Later that night Callie gave Chase a hug and watched him leave with his parents. When I tucked Callie into bed she told me that even though she has found her mate, she will always love me more.
I remember kissing her on her cheek and then getting into bed with my beautiful pregnant mate.
I won’t admit this to anyone else, but I teared up that night.
I rubbed Skye’s stomach and whispered to my baby, silently begging him to not meet his mate at such a young age.
